WSJ - The College Sports Crisis
"On November 1, 2023, the NCAA announced it was investigating several high-profile programs for potential violations of academic standards. details of the investigations were not released, but the NCAA stated it was taking the allegations seriously. Further investigations were launched on November 15, 2023, focusing on improper benefits received by athletes. The amounts and specific nature of these benefits were not released". I personally don't think the NCAA has a leg to stand on anymore. I think it's their way of trying to stay relevant. The rules were so foggy after the SCOTUS ruling that I don't know the NCAA's findings will stand up to the numerous appeals that they will face. However, I defer to the lawyers on this site.

This is one downside to the conference championship game. The other is losing and being eliminated from the playoff.

Oregon Football: The X-Factor Vs. Washington
Totally agree. This has been an Oregon DL controlling the LOS by committee. The reason is simple: we’ve faced a fair number of mobile QBs, Williams most likely being at the top of the list. . And, with our rotational depth, I look to see us wearing them down in the 4th, further limiting check down time, and forcing him into obvious scramble/run situations.

Who named it the Cascade Clash?! I mean, it's not bad, but I didn't get a vote! It's more like a Border War than clash. I'm just glad coach Lanning realizes the importance of this one, and wants the win as bad as we do. I don't believe in cruelty to animals, so we best put these mutts down fast! Sco Ducks! Whip them puppies!

Lanning on the rivalry "It's one that I struggled with early on while I was here. To start, they had some success against us, so it means a lot to me. It's one I want to have some success in," Lanning started. "It's definitely an important rivalry for us. This game means a lot. It's probably the No. 1 question I get when I'm out on the road with donors and support groups and talking about our university, is about this game." After taking early lumps, Dan Lanning says Oregon-Washington rivalry 'means a lot to me

I’m with you. Just pointing out there are some pretty big pluses in the macro if we somehow make the conference title game. I’m personally not in accounting with the athletic department, so windfalls don’t really get me anything selfishly. The path with a home game is probably the easier path with the current format, so that is 💯 what I want!

I don't mind them in. Keep Mari in Miami is working so far. Who would you rather play in round 2, osu or Indiana? I prefer Indiana but if they beat osu in the BIG CShip, then they will be the No. 1 seed. So, just play our way in, host a playoff, get healthy AND RUN THE DAMN TABLE.

I have a solution to this playoff mess. Make the conference championship game part of the playoff. The top two teams in each P4 conference play during championship weekend for the conference title. Four at-large teams will also play each other that weekend. Eliminate the FBS requirement and get the four best at-large teams. There will be six teams left after championship weekend. The two top ranked teams get a bye while the other four play each other the following Saturday at 3:30 ET and 7:30 ET after the 12:00 ET Army Navy game. The Final four will then be played on NYD with the National Championship being played on the second Monday after NYD (like old times). Now, there will inevitably be teams left out because the ACC and Big 12 will automatically get two teams in due to their conference championship game. However, this happens in the NFL all the time due to the requirement for each division champion to qualify for the playoffs. The CFP can increase to 16 teams and still keep the same timeline if they choose. The top two ranked teams just wouldn't get a bye during the second week.

My main concern is not having to play that CCG game so that our guys have a chance to get healthy. That certainly helps us. Besides that, a playoff game at Autzen Stadium could be just what we need to kickstart a run similar to what we saw last year from Ohio State. We don't need the B1G Championship this year. Sure, it would be cool to win it back-to-back, but it doesn't really serve our interests.

Oregon's Uniform Reveal vs. Trojans
Dan Lanning pre game speech: "Understand something. Why are you wearing black? You're going to a Trojan funeral." I've always liked the black uniforms, but after that statement, I like them even more.

Also, occurs to me that with the new seeding format a 3 game post season path is now possible. Conference champions aren’t guaranteed anything other than entry into the tournament. Say all goes to form, UI beats tOSU and we beat UW handily…pretty good chance that at 11-1 with our only loss being to undefeated 13-0 UI, that could land us in the top-4.
