There's a new Top Tiger at Auburn. Golesh is on the menu. Florida is rumored to be after Tulane's Jon Sumrall. After hiring and firing Billy Napier from the G6? I wonder if the Gators went Fisching? Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
I think people aren't talking about Texas's getting in at all which is a mistake. They are clearly playing better ball right now than TAMU they beat that was just ranked 3rd. How does the committee leave them out? They are a massive draw and are playing as good as anyone in the SEC. It actually scares me a little that there is a possibility we play Texas in Autzen for our 1st playoff game. That's a worst case scenario as a #5 seed if we are being honest.

Great Defensive Game for Oregon...But the Offense?
Zero complaints here. Walking wounded, end of November double digit victory against a solid version of our rival on the road? Yes please.
-
Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
BTW, if a post-champ game 2-loss team is going to be moved to make way for 3-loss Texas, it will again be BYU crying the PO blues. If 7-5 Duke defeats UVA in the ACC champ game, the ACC could be left out of the PO field in favor of the American champion and Sun Belt champ JMU. If you want to watch a conference implode, let this happen, and 2-loss Notre Dame getting in instead of 2-loss Miami. BOYCOTT THE DOMERS! Beg for B12 admittance.

Great Defensive Game for Oregon...But the Offense?
Yes, let us give credit to our QB, receivers, and pass protectors for the success in the passing game. However... I do not want to be a grumpy fan, but it looked to me as if OBD were slow to respond to what UW was doing to stop the run. It appeared to me that the UW was putting extra defenders in the box. Even with our OL at full strength, it is hard to block seven with six. It also appeared to me at times that their secondary players were anticipating the run. I am not sure how much authority Dante has to audible, but OBD ought to have made adjustments earlier, perhaps with more play action on early downs.

Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
All that being said, I have a hard time imagining a top-4 that isn’t some combo of tOSU, Indiana, SEC winner, B12 winner. The committee will probably position BYU to leap us if they finish as a 1 loss P4 conference champ.
-
Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
NO. Give us a home game against a team from the east or southeast as a warm up for the next week against a team that is cold. Yes, it exposes you to injuries and possibility of a loss, but odds are still better to win the quarterfinals that way, and it gives our fans some more fun and Autzen more publicity.

It's Easy to ACC that Champ Games Should Disappear
Give me Georgia. Give me any SEC team for that matter, they all have flaws. The other 3 are complete teams like Oregon.
-
Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
NO! Give me seed No. 5! 1st round game vs the American Conference champ or JMU, before most likely playing in the Cotton Bowl.

Sumrall to UF is done. Auburn also made their pick. It's going to be a busy Sunday on the carousel.

Man vs. Machine - A Ken Massey Computer Ranking 24-Team Playoff
Here are the Ken Massey rankings updated through Saturday's games. https://masseyratings.com/cf/fbs/ratings The Athletic's Stewart Mandel began his review of this weekend's games with the following: 'There is going to be a record amount of outrage in college football come Tuesday night.' My response: DUH! With mega-conference disparity in conference game Strength-of-Schedules, there were going to be more two-loss and fewer-loss teams that would fit in a 12-team playoff. Perhaps, Stewart, you, and other CFB experts should not have been so quick to accuse Tony Petitti of coming up with a playoff format that would eviscerate college football. Besides a bigger paycheck than you thought you'd ever see, record coaches' salaries, players making millions of dollars over the table, and more eyes on CFB than ever before, by all means, let us keep our PO unsullied; all teams must earn their way into the field. The SEC's Greg Sankey revoked his (faux) approval of Tony's PO plan and decided to move to a nine game conference schedule, because the PO committee's use of new metrics would not leave a worthy 3-loss SEC team out of the field. Greg, you may want to ask Sark how the 3-loss thing is working out? I think Tony Petitti may soon be acclaimed as the smartest guy in the room, although I expect Greg will take credit for his help in crafting Tony's plan. Using Massey's rankings, this is what a 24-team PO field would be. ACC - 14 Miami, 29 Louisville, 30 SMU, 33 Georgia Tech Big Ten - 1 Ohio State, 2 Indiana, 3 Oregon, 16 USC B12 - 9 Texas Tech, 11 BYU, 13 Utah, 24 Arizona SEC - 4 Georgia, 6 Alabama, 7 Ole Miss, 8 Texas A&M G6 - 32 JMU, 36 North Texas At Large - 5 Notre Dame, 10 Oklahoma, 12 Texas, 15 Vanderbilt, 17 Michigan, 18 Iowa 7 SEC/ 6 Big Ten/ 4 ACC/ 4 B12/ 2 G6/ 1 Notre Dame The top 8-seeded teams have a 1st round bye. The first three rounds of the PO would be played on campus. 1 Ohio State vs. 17 Michigan at 16 USC 2 Indiana vs. 18 Iowa at 15 Vanderbilt 3 Oregon vs. 19 Arizona at 14 Miami 4 Georgia vs. 20 Louisville at 13 Utah 5 Notre Dame vs. 21 SMU at 12 Texas 6 Alabama vs. 22 JMU at 11 BYU 7 Ole Miss vs. 23 Georgia Tech at 10 Oklahoma 8 TX A&M vs. 24 North Texas at 9 Texas Tech The only first-round repeat game would see Michigan at USC. Will this happen? Possibly, but not before 2027 at the earliest. Or, we could see Tony Petitti's 16-team 4-4-2-2-1-3 format come to fruition. OBD is off until playing a 1st-round PO home game on December 19th or 20th, which is nice. 😁

Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
At this stage of the season I think a home CFP game would be the best scenario for OBD's. 3 weeks of home cooking and 2 weeks of normal prep for their CFP opponent. And that first round opponent will most likely be traveling 2 or 3 time zones to play in a hostile environment. Weather could play a role in how the game unfolds. Consider this unfortuneate scenario with the CFP committee. If those members use the correct analytics that they espouse, then OBD's jumps TT and lands #4 this Tuesday. Darn nation! I expect that the meaningless polls will have OBD's #4. There are only 2 upsides to a first round by, player rest with much needed healing. And DL and staff will be better prepared to navigate the layoff having traveled this road last year. Defense matters and travels well and this tram has a solid defense. Can't wait for all this to unfold. Go Ducks!

It's Easy to ACC that Champ Games Should Disappear
I think you'll get the G6, or ACC champ. Either way, you'll likely wipe them out pretty easily. If projections stand, that being Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, and Texas Tech. Who would you prefer to play in the quarters?

I would have been a lot happier if the score was 56-7 Ducks.

Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
There is a path that only involves us playing 3 more games and winning a title, which is crazy if you think about it. There will absolutely be at least one SEC in the top-4 imo, I have no doubt. So for this scenario to happen it is probably more likely with Georgia staying put and smacking Alabama down. I think given where the ACC is at, it’s pretty safe to say Indiana and tOSU stay in the top-4. The real key is Texas Tech imo. If they lose, and Lane is gone to LSU, someone has to be at 4, and it would probably be us at that point. That being said, I’ll be shocked if Tech loses. They’re legit and I think BYU is solid, but not really on the same level. Nothing we can do about it at this point but embrace the chaos.

Prediction Contest vs. Washington: Surprisingly--Not Many Were Close, but the Winner Was...
1Ducker1! The score was 26-14, with two turnovers, four sacks, and 286 passing yards, but we did not need tiebreakers this week! 1Ducker1 predicted a 27-17 score of which was only four total points off. Another long-time OBD member, latracey, predicted 28-17 of which was only five points off. But the majority of us were WAY OFF! So congrats again to 1Ducker1, and thanks to all for being a part of this fun, and we'll do it again in the Playoffs! C'mon...Let's Celebrate!

Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
No, because I believe the layoff is too long (it would be a month before Oregon would play again) and teams lose their rhythm, especially on offense, but I think it’s more important what side of the bracket Oregon is on and who they would have to face on the way to the national championship game. FWIW, George Wrightster, on his post game podcast, said that he believes that Ohio State, Texas Tech and Georgia probably match up best against the Ducks.

Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
Good point, RichardDuck! There are any number of possibilities that can play out. We will have to see how the CFP Rankings roll out on Tuesday. See who might be positioned to jump OBD's if they win their conference championship game. No matter how it goes down DL, staff and players will be ready to play the hand they are dealt. Not sure about other forum members but Sunday morning is so much better after we beat the huskies. Go Ducks......

Do We Want a First-Round Bye in the Playoffs?
I know people are in love with the idea of a home playoff game, but at this point I think we're as likely to have a first-round bye. It probably would just take a loss by either Texas Tech or Georgia in their league title games.

Great Defensive Game for Oregon...But the Offense?
I think Dante was off, timing-wise. He threw a couple ahead and behind schedule. Our receiving corp are pretty darn sure-handed but Sediq diving, turning back for catches, and the one handed catch that was called an incompletion all would have been catches with better timing by Dante. Would I trade Dante for another QB? Nope! He doesnt throw up prayers, ala Mendoza and Penix, that his young receivers (if they were as young as OBD) have to catch to inflate his stats. Mendoza, is lucky his receiver are older and have the experience to be circus clowns with their catches. On a side note, did you hear the talking heads say earlier in the week that if Dante, chose to leave early he would be the #1 QB of the NFL draft? That's with Mendoza winning the Heisman. There is more "upside" to Dante than Mendoza.

Not Jon… As cool as it would be to see at Autzen, I don’t think you want a team as talented as Alabama or Notre Dame in the first round of the playoffs, if the goal is to win the national championship. I’d rather play a team where Oregon has a clear talent advantage.

Yeah, I'm thinking their roster is going to be obliterated for the playoffs and all of the work of the players will be got nought. Also, he and his family better get on that jet that LSU sent and never go back to Mississipi without security. Those fans are going to be scorned and angry, and football fans from the south are crazy.
