  2. As everyone, including university presidents, conference commissioners, coaches, and fans know, the college football calendar is FUBAR in every respect. But TCB, This is College Football. Thus, expect no common sense changes. However, in the NFL today, you can watch 'Big Ten QBs', OBD's own Bo Nix against Buffalo, and USC's Sam Darnold versus the 49ers. Sunday, tune in to watch Ohio State's CJ Stroud against the Patriots, and the Pats QB Drake Maye, who OBD took down in the Holiday Bowl. Then, watch USC's Caleb Williams go against the Rams. Also, because the better teams get home games in the NFL PO, what a concept, the games will be played in interesting weather conditions, with fans in some locales dressed up like Eskimos. 😶‍🌫️ Seattle, a tropical 42 degrees - Denver, a high of 35 degrees decining during the game with a possibility of snow - Boston/Foxboro, below freezing with snow expected - Chicago, a balmy 20 degrees with snow likely. Then, continue the NFL PO parade by pretending the Miami vs Indiana champ game is akin to a Monday night game between the Dolphins and the Colts on ESPN. Miami weather at Championship Game kickoff - 60 degrees or higher. WIMPS! 🤬
  3. Crazy thing is that many players are being paid more than the coaches these days. I saw the salleries of these two the other day and both are making less than 2mil. A lot of big name players are making double that or even triple that if some reports can be trusted. I mean that freshman tight end at USC is supposed to be making 2 mil a year and he hasn't even played a down of college football yet.
  4. The Ducks should be the preseason number one team or at least top three. They have the most stacked QB room in the country. Their receiver room also has to be top five. They should be able to get any QB coach they want. Let Mehringer stick with his strengths as Tight end coach while trying on the new hat of OC.
  5. I had students raking a test earlier this week... So I sat there checking any transfer portal news constantly. But otherwise I am moving into off season mode. I won't watch any of the championship game. With a 3 and 1 year old at home the ONLY games I get to carve out watching time are Duck games. I frankly don't care too much about who wins the national championship. I won't be happy with either winning but it is what it is. It's kinda funny for me because I football season but I generally hate the begining of the school year because as a teacher it is pretty boring with a lot of paperwork and not that much fun because you don't know any of the kids yet. So oddly enough right now my classes are more fun to teach but moving away from football season itself. I have other stuff to focus on at this point. I guess I'm ready for a bit of down time.

  7. Nice background piece on Hampton. For 2026 Oregon, it's Hampton for the slay
  8. There will be big TV interest at game time, but unless you are in Bloomington or Miami the media/print interest (other than ESPN) seems to have softened considerably due to the long run out to get there. While it would have been great to have Oregon in the game, I was just thinking a couple days ago how my daily activities this week were significantly different than if I had been checking the Internet every 5-10 minutes for updates. laugh
  9. I somewhat agree. It seems almost like the break from the Spring game to week 1. I will DVR the game and check the score occasionally before I watch it. If it is a close game in the 4th, I will watch the ending. But I am rooting for Cig. I have to give the man his due (after googling him). I think he and Indy are a breath of fresh air.
  10. I’ve read that Oregon has lost interest. Seaton is making schools deal with his uncle and he wants to be paid to visit. This is on top of his asking price. Maybe DL has realized this is the type of situation that can ruin a culture. Meanwhile, he’s in Miami getting police escorts around tow to get him through traffic which is understandably heavy this weekend. So, they will probably give him what he wants. Miami has also gone all in on QB Darian Mensah from Duke. Apparently, they’re willing to buy out his Duke contract and terminate it. He will allegedly receive $10 M, an Adidas deal, country club housing and bring his sister in to play soccer+NIL.
  11. Can we just get 12, 16, or the 18 best teams? Have the first two rounds be held on campus, and pair the lowest seed against the highest seed in each round, on both sides of the bracket. Make the postseason start the week after the CCG weekend. Also, no transfer portal business till the off-season. Same goes for coaching hires. If you are being payed to coach, or play for a team, for a season. You finish that out. No other profession allows you to just leave in the middle of your working shift because somebody came up and offered you another gig. Imagine a pilot, surgeon, chef, postal worker, welder, construction worker, ride operator, or ice cream distributor, and you just up and leave in the middle of what you were doing because you wanted to go somewhere else. "Sorry Mr. Kiffin, your daughter is going to hold off on having her first child. Doctor Rouge just got offered a better opportunity at another hospital. He had to do what was best for his family."
  12. I am now into the Ducks working the portal and hoping for more of a ski season. Dan Lanning was right - play these playoff games on Saturdays and finish the season. Fall has long past and now we are into the unofficial second half of winter since we just passed mid January. This is starting to feel like pro baseball going all the way almost into November to finish the season. If they go with a 32 team playoff.... we might be going all the way to college basketball's March Madness before we get a winner. If they go double elimination like they do in college baseball, we might just make it into June! The excitement of the playoffs has already faded for me. It's not just the Ducks losing. It is the long gap between games. I am used to a game every Saturday. This playoff schedule just feels out of whack. And I am also not happy about it being cable tv only. In the olden days, the major networks would carry the biggest bowl games and then a champion would be anointed. And just for good measure, I don't think we need games almost stretching into the 4 hour territory. As for the natty: I kind of don't like either team. But I do want to see the players battle it out and see who comes out on top. I definitely don't want to see either Cig or Mario win it all.
  13. Novosad went to Bowling Green, where he should see a lot of playing time. Beaver went to Georgia, where his chances of playing probably just got smaller. I don't see that move making any sense at all. He might be one of the guys that transfers a dozen times in his college career.
  14. I don't see any of those on the list becoming great players at Oregon. Justius Lowe and Blake Purchase have made some plays. But even those guys are not good enough to start for Ohio St, Georgia, Texas, etc. Oregon is growing and growing means the pretty good are no longer good enough. The standard is rising. Lanning might be planning on playing a lot of the incoming true freshmen. Hill, Davison, Dak Moore, Finny broke the mold - talent trumps experience. In years past, a lot on that list would have broken through with some time and won a starting job or got on the field quite a bit. Blake Purchase did that. But with what is coming in, it is harder for those kind of players to ascend at Oregon.
  15. The Ducks certainly aren't alone in this regard. The Georgia Bulldawgs lost a couple of very promising DBs even though they saw the field a good bit as freshmen. One was probably feeling squeamish as the Dawgs snapped up two very experienced CBs who are going to play ahead of him. So he portaled to Ohio State where the likelihood of becoming a starter (not to mention the NIL payout) will be higher. While we are at it, the head recruiting Guru at Georgia mentions Ohio State as one of the leading programs that is getting hammered with important losses in the portal this year. I think when the smoke clear, a fair number of top programs will be licking their wounds over players they'd hoped to retain that ended up flying the coop.
  16. Wow this is crazy to fathom, while some will definitely be missed for depth not any starters are leaving. I can't blame these guys for leaving most of them will start at their new team. I'm going to miss Purchase a lot he brought a great change of pace on the outside of the line and could be a dominant player with a bigger role.
  17. Every team is now in the same boat with depth. Our incoming class has 4 dline players and our current bluechip ratio is 75%, be ready to play newbs! Need to identify a couple non-mega stars in the portal to give us some more depth. Can’t rely on being NFL ready 3 deep to win…those days are gone for everyone.
  18. This is the first year we've lost any players to the portal that will actually affect us negatively next year in the 2 deep, and it's quite a few: Purchase, Porter, Lopa, Austin, Harris, Gray, Green, Jericho Johnson (he was going to pass Gray and Green with another year). About half can be replaced in the portal, but the rest will be loss of quality depth.
  19. Last year we only had one, Dakorian Moore, and he turned out pretty good. Five incoming Oregon freshmen featured in Polynesian Bowl Friday This year: WR Jalen Lott: Lott is a Composite five-star wide receiver from Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek High School. He stands as the nation's No. 22 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver in the composite rankings. Lott finished his senior season with 87 catches for 1,280 yards and 20 touchdowns. OL Tommy Tofi: Tofi is a four-star offensive lineman from San Francisco (Calif.) Archbishop Riordan. The 6-foot-6 and 330-pound lineman ranks as 247Sports' No. 43 overall recruit and No. 3 interior offensive lineman. OL Koloi Keli: Incoming Oregon freshman Koloi Keli is one of 17 locals from Hawaii playing in Friday's game, hailing from Farrington High School in Honolulu. Keli is a three-star recruit who ranks as 247Sports' No. 70 interior lineman in the 2026 class. DB Jett Washington: Washington is a five-star safety out of Las Vegas (Nevada) Bishop Gorman. The 6-foot-4 and 210-pound athlete ranks as 247Sports' No. 22 overall recruit and the nation's No. 1 safety. He helped lead Bishop Gorman to an NIAA Open State Championship with 4 interceptions on the year. Off the field, Washington is the nephew of the late Kobe Bryant. DB Davon Benjamin: Benjamin is a four-star safety from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian. He is a versatile defensive back who plays cornerback, nickelback and safety. Benjamin is rated as the No. 47 overall recruit and No. 5 safety in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. His senior season was highlighted by a 101-yard pick-six.
