FishDuck Foaming Over Upside of 2026 Diamond Ducks
Finally...the B1G ten announced their baseball preseason rankings. But they only listed the top six teams in the conference. That tells me their not to invested in baseball. Other sites are behind a paywall so I can't access them. Nonetheless, here are the top six. UCLA Oregon USC Nebraska Indiana Iowa

Bill Moos Wanted Chip Over Frost
iubhounds, you piqued my interest a couple of weeks ago with the thread you began titled: "Having to Fly East for Games". That caused me to really think about scheduling. I hope to say more about that topic in the near future. Like you, when ASU and Arizona took the PAC from 10 to 12 I was concerned that it was a mistake. There may be an answer for us "old school" curmudgeons. I'm working on it. As to Moos, I lived in Salem when he was hired as the Duck AD. He came there for "Oregon Club". I knew immediately that he was not a good fit for OBD.

Know Your Opponent (Cignetti)
The history of college football says that nobody stays at the top for a very long period of time. Examples LSU USC Alabama Miami Michigan Texas Clemson Tenn---just to name a few.

Know Your Opponent (Cignetti)
Thanks, iubhounds. Great to have you with us on the Forum. I know that Cig's Indiana team broke the Blue Chip Roster Championship ceiling. Coming into last season with the 72nd combined roster ranking makes this an even greater accomplishment. This season, Indiana's combined roster ranking only moved up 64 spots to No. 8. 😁 And Cignetti's long-time OC and DC earned well-deserved pay raises and are back in Bloomington in 2026. Coming into 2025, the AP pollsters ranked Indiana at No. 20. This season, Indiana will be in the AP's top five and is in the top five future championship odds along with Ohio State, coming to Bloomington on 10/7/26, Texas, Georgia, and Oregon. Like Mendoza in 2025, Josh Hoover transfers in ranked the 4th-best QB in the portal. In 2021, Hoover, from the Dallas, Texas area, was originally committed to Indiana before signing with TCU; Hoover is bringing 9600 yards passing and 71 TDs with him. In 2026, Indiana's three 'manageable' out-of-conference games will allow new QB Hoover to acclimate with the team before conference play begins with a home game against Northwestern, and then on the road at Rutgers. Could Cig have drawn up a better opening set of games? Before the Week 7 game against the Buckeyes, the Hoosiers will play back-to-back road games with a visit to Nebraska after the trip to New Jersey, but should be 6-0 coming into the home game versus Ohio State. Before the date with Indiana, Ohio State will play at Texas, Illinois, and at Iowa. Ohio State will travel to Bloomington after a home game versus Maryland, and will easily defeat Ball State and Kent State at home. If Ohio State wins in Austin, Ohio State at Indiana could be a battle of the top two teams in the nation. The only concern coming into 2026: Indiana has reached the mountain top, will it stay there? My money's on Cig.

Bill Moos Wanted Chip Over Frost
Frost was right that it was and still is hard to recruit to Oregon. The worth ethic and recruiting chops that really made the difference. This isn't to say coaches before Cristobal and Lanning weren't hard workers but they knew their limits with the Oregon brand at the time. Kelly had something unique to prich... Cool uniforms and a cool offense. Everyone caught up on the offensive side and for a while there tried to keep pace with uniforms. Cristobal and Lanning has been able to approach recruiting a different way because of the brand laid down by their predessors and in turn both elevated recruiting. NIL has also been a massive game changer for Oregon because they wouldn't have stood a chance with some players on this roster without it. Recruiting to Oregon was hard and is still hard. Recruiting in general is super hard work. I know most of us wouldn't want to work the hours Lanning does. So don't take Frost's old quote as a slight on Oregon. It was true that getting top end talent to Eugene was difficult and exceedingly rare. It was the reality of where Oregon sat back then. Instead see Frost's quote for what it was... A moment in time where the Oregon brand was in its ascent but couldn't compete for to top recruits with the big boys. Things have changed in some massive ways. He wasn't wrong then ... But that doesn't mean that a statement of a past era applies to the Oregon of today.

2026 Men's Basketball Recruiting
With a #1 recruiting class, some portal transfers and some big cash, Oregon's basketball season can flip in a year, from bad to great. Other teams can make the same kind of improvement too. I follow both sports, all the teams and IMO college basketball recruiting is more brutal than college football. I guess nobody is really committed until they are on campus at that first team meeting, getting their photos taken in uniform. Yet there are a LOT of good basketball players nationwide, enough for every team, no matter their ranking.

Bill Moos Wanted Chip Over Frost
I am not sure how many years ago this took place. I might look for his book at the library but won't buy it. Honestly I wish Nebraska would have gone back to the B12. I bet many of their fans wish they would have or would now but the B1G tv money paid out is just too big to ignore. Yet I am biased when it comes to conference realignment ... too old school. I remember it bothered me a little, not a lot, when Arizona and Arizona State was joining the Pac8.

I had a look a couple of times to double check my eyes but I don't see where Jedd Fisch's UDub is listed. I thought he had every high school player in Arizona as a lock to follow him to Seattle. To me that is a little interesting not to see them listed by name.

Know Your Opponent (Cignetti)
My first sports forum was around 1996 at the Indianapolis Star and then other IU forums and other B1G fans forums formed after that. Needless to say I have visited many forums over 31 years, to see what information I could glean from opponents. I even joined a few where I saw there was legitimate sports discussion without arguing or attacks. THIS FORUM, FishDuck is the best forum I have ever visited, joined and posted on after the short time I have been here. I am serious when I say that. That includes Indiana forums. I have also found Duck fans on X just as nice to joke with, discuss our teams, our coaches, recruiting etc. You Duck fans are a lot different than a couple of B1G fans I could name, but won't. You are some of the best fans I have ever run into online since I first started the internet in 1995.

College Football’s most crowded Quarterback rooms for 2026Oregon DucksDan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks got one of the biggest wins of the offseason when Dante Moore decided to pass up the NFL Draft to return for one more season. FishDuck Foaming Over Upside of 2026 Diamond Ducks
I saw the other day that Indiana was projected 5th in the B1G in baseball, Oregon was 2nd. But this might be a factor for the Hoosiers. They needed to at least get some ground ball workouts in the other day outside instead of the Indoor Football Stadium. I guess from the photo, there was no outfield workouts. Most of that snow should be melted now, it was 66° on Tuesday.

2026 BIG Info, Predictions, Etc.
Some additional information on that IU transfer portal QB from TCU ... he has seemed to have shrunk since moving from Dallas to Bloomington. In a matter of a month Josh Hoover went from 6'2 200 pounds (TCU Measurement) to 6'0 and 194 pounds. (Indiana Measurement) That will be quite a difference compared to their last QB that was 6'5.

FishDuck Foaming Over Upside of 2026 Diamond Ducks
We have another in-state pitcher returning in Gabe Howard from West Linn. In his senior HS year, he was the No. 2 RHP in Oregon, and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Oregon as he had a 2.19 ERA in 67 innings. Whew! As a freshman last year, he played sparingly, but finished 1-0 and with a 5.87 ERA. I'm sure he'll make a big jump this year, and great to see so many Oregon-boys on the squad. Gabe Howard in 2025...

Very nice Eulogy Mr. FishDuck. RIP 30 Duck you made a contribution. A reminder to all of us who will attend a "Celebration of Life" sometime this year. If a friend is seriously ill, go see them right now rather than waiting for a "Celebration of Life" because sad to say, they will not be in attendance.
