Oregon also opens 2025 at No. 7 in the AP Poll, receives first-place vote
Preseason rankings won't even get you a coffee at Dunkins! No rankings should be allowed until at least after week 5. But, it is what it is. Starting in the top 10 is nice. It reflects DL's recruiting prowess. But this year's success will be determined mostly by how successful the QB position plays. We look solid on D and the O-line. The RB room is very deep. But we are very unproven at WR and QB. This will be a season where coach Stein earns his salary. Can he design game plans to let our qb's and wr's shine? That's my big question.

Jurrion Dickey Suspension?
Hard to avoid the conclusion that DL used the Q&A session to send a very clear message to Dickey: join the team or join another team. I’d say he’s not the first, and most likely not the last 5-star high school kid from a troubled upbringing to confuse the difficulty of adjusting and growing into a no-stars team member with a feeling of personal resentment and disrespect.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
We had 350 yards of total offense, averaged 3.0 ypc, had 9 penalties, and were 33% on 3rd down against BSU. That does not scream out good offensive line play imo. Just sayin.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
Well Idaho was pre-band aid where they flipped some players around. BSU they figured out the line rotation in the second half... But there were SOOOO many unforced errors that put that game in jeopardy. The Herbert fumble followed by the Gabriel fumble (on the recovery of a bad handoff) was 14 points right there that kept the game close. Neither were offensive line problems.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
Lanning obviously thinks this Oline is twice as good. 2 really's for this year, just one really for last year. Seriously though in listening to each of the coaches interviewed the past few days, I have really (just 1) gotten the impression that they love the entire team, offense and defense. I did not always get that impression last year. Then again I always get excited about the team every year at this point in preseason practice.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
Didn’t need elite matchups to get exposed, struggled mightily against Idaho and probably should have lost to Boise. OBD patched it together, to go 13-0…but what does this say about the average B1G team last year? Personally I have little doubt this oline will be better.

And, buildings are being fire-sold which puts a damper on property taxes. Finding investment dollars in this budget climate will not be easy. If they don't, the team could end up moving after all.

Lanning Thinks our OL is Better This Year!
I would say this group is stronger than last years. I think they did a fantastic job applying bandaids to last year's group. But the reality is that last year's group had some fundamental weaknesses that were exposed against elite defensive lines that could reliably get pressure on Gabriel.

New Group to Buy Trail Blazers!
Unfortunately, I don’t see Portland investing much of anything into the Moda center/Rose Garden anytime soon. Businesses have left the downtown core area, and vacancy rates in commercial spaces are at an all time high. The city “leaders” are faced with a $100 million budget shortfall. Replacing businesses that have relocated, or simply closed their doors will not be that easy. Good news for local NBA fans. The team is young and their potential looks better than it has for several years.

Oregon Ducks Practice Reports Updates, Etc. “2025” (6)
"Lopa has one of the best blends of size and range of any back-end defender in the country, and the Ducks have production voids to fill at safety," ESPN's Billy Tucker writes. "The No. 13 safety in the 2024 ESPN 300 had limited reps last season, but in the Big Ten championship game against Penn State, he was in third-down packages matching up with All-America tight end Tyler Warren. Lopa is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, but covers ground fast with his long stride. He will come up inside the box and tackles soundly as well. In high school he played both sides of the ball, tallying four interceptions and 16 receiving touchdowns. Lopa will need to develop as the season progresses with his reads and recognition, but we project he will begin to reach his potential this fall." Oregon Ducks' Kingston Lopa named among top breakout candidates in 2025

I feel like Pancho is the key to this O-line due to Pickard being his backup. One injury to him and we get considerably softer up the middle.

My biggest hope is somewhat confirmed by Coach Lanning during the post practice Q&A: Q: How has the offensive lines pre-snap recognition improved over the past two seasons?Lanning: "I mean, we had a really strong group a year ago, and I have a really, really strong group now."

Yikes! It Gets WORSE for Bay Area Schools...First Cal, Now Stanford in Crisis
In the even worse category, Stanford's starting quarterback in Week 0, on the road in Honolulu, will be one of the 17 players who transferred in from the transfer portal: 6th-year senior Ben Gulbranson. Ben started three of OSU's last four games in 2024, but left for Stanford knowing that $1.5 million QB Malik Murphy would start this season. A Bing search of Ben finds him still in Corvallis; his transfer to Furd was most certainly not B1G news. Malik is working his way to FCS Portland State after starting a couple of games at Texas when Quinn Ewers was hurt, starting for Duke in 2024 before transferring out, knowing he would lose his job in Durham to a QB transferring in from Tulane, Darian Mensah. For a reported $3 million NIL deal, Mensa(h) was smart to transfer to Duke 😁. Cal had many starters transfer out, especially on offense, due to Wilcox's hiring of former Boise State and Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin as Cal's OC. Heck of a hire when the newbie runs off all of your best players, one reason Wilcox now reports to GM Ron Rivera. Wilcox does not get Cal to a bowl game this season, and if Cal has enough money, Wilcox is likely gone, with the GM also serving as head coach? Perhaps the Bears can use some of that B1G money purloined from the Bruins to buy out the coach? Stanford lost many starters to GM Andrew Luck's firing of Troy Taylor, who is suing Stanford for wrongful termination of his contract. 17 players transferring to Stanford is a record by a good bit. Luck may have conditioned his hire on the administration being willing to admit more transfers out of the portal. Stanford opened -2.5 at Hawaii, now bet down to -1.5. This speaks for itself as to the nadir of Stanford football. Thank goodness OBD caught the last B1G plane out.

Jurrion Dickey Suspension?
I've read those comments too on another site. A lot of complaints that Oregon's five star recruits have failed to become major NFL stats. But again our list of five stars is quite short. But college ball isn't the NFL and though the five star status denotes potential NFL draft success it is important to note that college ball is not the NFL. I think DAT failed to have much of an NFL impact due to his size. However, at Oregon and in college football he was monster in part because of his size and his incredible speed. The NFL has pretty much optimized football for their roster sizes and limitations. Players who don't fit the mold physically need to find a way to fit the mold if they are going to have a successful career. Some can... Some can't.

I think it's safe to say that the majority of Dan Lanning's recruits work out. I'm sure this has a lot to do with the transfer portal and getting guys that fit his system. However, most of his highly rated recruits seem to stick around unlike Mario's guys. I looked at the 2021 class and the only guys who stayed and contributed out of that class were JPJ, TFerg, Bassa and Franklin.

Yikes! It Gets WORSE for Bay Area Schools...First Cal, Now Stanford in Crisis
Con-zano and his followers who say Oregon betrayed Oregon State and will regret their move to the B1G need to read this. Oregon supports their athletic department , yes there's one very huge supporter. But it's not like the fans and alumni give nothing. I used to watch PAC TEN football after dark when I'd be out past midnight. There were many great games, but you could tell the difference in environment. These games started at 8 pm Pacific Time You could start games at 8 pm Eastern Time, or Central Time for programs in the SEC or B1G and the crowds would be there as if it were a five PM kickoff. There's just different levels to these programs and you see it week in and week out. I've talked to fans from Utah, Arizona State, and Arizona a lot during football season and they would often tell me that there were many apathetic game day atmospheres in the PAC. The two they said were the toughest to get tickets to? Oregon and Washington. I have walked up several times and been able to get really cheap Sun Devil tickets on game day. The times I couldn't? You guessed it, Oregon, Washington and Utah. Arizona too, but that's pretty obvious.
