  2. Hostile environment favors us, we clearly lose steam when there's no pressure, I'm sure Dan could use that metaphor or something similar as the message. Create your own steam because this Tech team is legit. The RBs have a mix of power and speed like Davison for us and the WRs make contested catches pretty often. The defense scared me before watching the tape, but they seem really vulnerable to misdirection. If you can get crossing routes to flow against the pass rush you can hit big plays, Utah and Dilly did it multiple times. That Utah game was closer than the score and gave me hope that we can move the ball. Our defense is actually what concerns me, these Tech backs can run for 5 or 6 yards after contact if Flowers or Dillon are the first to arrive. Flowers continues to miss open field tackles and that can hurt us against this team especially since Morton can run well. I think this looks a lot like our 2023 match-up, down to the last possession.
  3. Oregon Ducks MVPs In College Football Playoff Win Over James MadisonThe Oregon Ducks took care of the James Madison Dukes at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, 51-34. The offense was clicking on all cylinders as it bulldozed its way to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals for the second straight year, but the defense in a closing situation left more to be desired under coach Dan Lanning and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi. 4. Its tough to say just how good Dante is compared to others still in the tourney. One key aspect of any qb's game is how they hold up against adversity, and that adversity is coming. During the loss to Indiana a saw Dante really struggle with dealing with pressure. Since then he's appears to have improved in this area, but he will be tested big time again. I was impressed with Alabama qb in a come back win, didnt seem rattled at all even in first half of that game.
  5. Dan Lanning’s Frustration Could Ignite Oregon vs. Texas TechThe Texas Tech Red Raiders finally have an opponent in the Oregon Ducks for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Orange Bowl. Oregon advanced, but a sluggish second half against James Madison clearly fired up coach Dan Lanning... and that edge might be exactly what this Ducks team needs as it chases a national championship. 6. I’m torn on what we all witnessed. On one hand they did exactly what I wanted. Build a big lead, put in back ups and rest starters. On the other I also realize that comes with less than stellar results which is the trade off. It’s hard not to be the spoiled fan disappointed that we didn’t both dominate AND play the backups. Like. I said in point six, I hope the less than satisfactory ending keeps the team humble and focused. I’m sure Lanning will be using it for this week’s motivation.

  12. James Madison Dukes vs. Oregon Ducks: Full Highlights
  13. Maintaining top to bottom buy in has to be trickier than ever in today's college football environment. When your OC & DC coordinators are wearing two hats and working for two programs, and many of your teammates are weighing their portal (income) options (or have already left), and your first round opponent is down 34 to 3, well, you get what you got last night. I thought the portal losses to the secondary were particularly evident in the second half. Seemed like the old Brady Hoke days when they didn't have a clue what defense they were trying to execute or who they were trying to cover. Oh well, as always, Go Ducks!
  14. Looking at the game summary this morning, appears the Ducks played 27 different guys on defense including the 11 starters. There was no breakdown between first and second half on the participation report. For comparison, in a close game earlier with Indiana the Ducks played 16. (11 + 5)
  15. I agree with your comments. We have to remember JMU was ranked higher than UW even with consideration of opponents. It shouldn't be shocking that they could do some damage when we took our foot off the gas mentally and by having backups in the game randomly from pretty early on. We got a glimpse early in the game of what our ceiling is and what our floor is late. Our ceiling is the highest in the playoffs, but our floor is more in the Alabama and Miami floor range than the Indiana, Ohio State, and Georgia floor range. There were a few unlucky plays that had a big impact as you mentioned too. I'm more worried about us traveling across 3 time zones to play in warm South Florida. At least the players will have about a week to adjust, but still...will we ball out to our ceiling? I sure hope they replace the turf at Autzen for next year. It's pretty clear that it has excellent traction when you plant your cleats solidly, but if your foot angle is bad and you are relying on friction with the plastic blades of grass you might as well be playing on a hockey rink.
  16. Davison was in a walking boot and using crutches after the game. It’s not anything different from the precautions they take for any kind of sprain, tweak, etc. However, he wasn’t putting any weight on his foot when he was being helped to the locker room. If I had to guess I would say he’ll be held out against Tech. Oregon’s RB room is pretty experienced and I think Noah has done really well when he’s been called upon to take the lion’s share of the carries in big games.
  17. Oregon has played better away than at home this year, so the TT crowd might actually be advantage Ducks.
  18. Today
  19. 1. J Mac has arrived. Add in Benson and Dak Moore and that receiver group will be a problem for anybody. Dante has enough “it” to win a championship. Add that together with point number one along with Sadiq and the Ducks passing game will be a problem. JMU’s offense was better than expected and posed problems. The D did a great job of containing it to build a 34-3 lead. The momentum shift was startling/ concerning. About to go up 55-13, then a slip, an interception, a big return and a final score of 51-34. Ouch. I’m worried about the Davison injury. I want him back 100% against TT. Call me greedy. I’m not aware of any other injuries. For that I’m thankful. I’m hoping a dominant performance with a humbling ending sets up a confident and focused lead up to round two.
  20. I’d theorize the relative cold and generally moist air, combined with the surface being more worn out after a full season (assuming we didn’t put down a new surface before the game) is not something our playing surface experienced a ton of this year. Maybe they weren’t all wearing full rain shoes given it wasn’t actually raining? Seemed very slippery though. I thought the receiver was flat out knocked over on the first pick, second one was iffy decision and forcing it a bit (imo), but it happens. I think Dante is hands down the best QB that has played so far in the playoff.
  21. I agree with the Jekyll and Hyde comment completely. That’s exactly what worries me going forward. We can’t keep doing the tale of two halves thing and expect to survive against better teams. If Oregon plays like they did in the first half against JMU, that team can absolutely win a national championship. I don’t think that’s crazy to say at all. But the second half version is not getting through this playoff. What Ohio State did last year was just play their best football and keep playing it. No letups. No drifting. That’s what it takes now. It doesn’t matter if it’s the starters or the backups on the field, the standard has to stay the same. Focus, discipline, and resilience are non negotiable at this point. If Oregon can be the same team for four quarters, they’re good enough to win it all. If not, they won’t get there.
  22. Agree with your take on Lanning’s decision to play Dante, at all, in the 2nd half. If he gets injured the Ducks are done, their quest for a title goes from being a favorite to being a decided underdog. The risk was not worth it.
  23. I get the crowd point, and Tech fans will definitely show up, but I don’t think that’s going to decide this game. As long as they stay disciplined and don’t make it harder than it needs to be, the noise is just background. At the end of the day it still comes down to execution. If Oregon plays clean football, the crowd won’t matter much. If they don’t, then it won’t matter who’s in the stands anyway. DL and company have a lot to clean up in the next week and a half.
  24. I wonder "WHY" the slipping? Is it the Nike cleats or is it the extra athletic taping? Multiple instances in other games this season. One would think these occurrences would be solved by now.
  25. 59-13 is looking pretty good right now. However, just like James Madison, if the Ducks truly want to be elite and a title contender, they need to beat these guys like Tyson beat Spinks. Leave no doubt.
  26. I think Tech will have the crowd advantage. They’re going to bring a lot of fans because they haven’t played in a major bowl game as a conference champion since 1995. They’re also Texans, so they’re genetically predisposed to spending a lot of money to go watch football. However, the Ducks seem to have a good plan in place for crowd noise as we saw in a few games this season.
