1st Round 2024/25 Playoff Games Could be Chilly and Wet
Solar replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The people saying the 12 team playoff makes each regular season game less important are missing the benefits of skipping the first round or getting to play with home field advantage.- 1 reply

Agree OSU will be tough next year. The OSU will have the best Defense in the country next year, since they were nearly the best this year and have 9 of the 11 starters returning. I'm definitely excited to play them in Autzen next year.

Oh My! Huskies Now Have Only THREE Starters Left From 2023!
Solar replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm expecting Fisch to set a portal record for how many transfers they bring from a single school. Something like half of the starters that beat Oklahoma in the bowl game. To your point though, hey still will be VERY light on depth, regardless of how much success they have in the portal. -
It's Official...HC Jed Fisch to Washington
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Couldn't agree more. One could argue reason Grubb wasn't going to get the job is because the AD isn't stupid. He saw how depleted the roster was. He needed to hire a good coach with a good staff and good players he could bring with him, not to mention someone that can do a lot with a little. Fisch checked those boxes. This is a smart hire. I expect all of the best UA players to be in the portal shortly to come along with Fisch and his assistant coaches to play in the big 10. -
Yeah, but look what A&M did as an exception. And Bama fans aren't stupid, they know recruiting is what made Saban great and DeBoer can't recruit. Plenty of articles on the subject already. Fan's seem pretty uneasy about the hire from what I see.
-
Yep! This is actually the reason why I think they let Grubb go to Bama, and even pass on Pete Carroll if he was interested. Fisch would bring his coaches, his starters and finish off the roster in the spring with more portal transfers. It would be like Riley's first year at USC. Yes it will be harder to win in the B1G than B12, doubling his salary would ease the pain.
-
I don't get why Drinkwitz and Fisch weren't on the list. Both are doing a lot with a little, even in recruiting. Maybe the Bama AD only plans on being around for 2 years and figured it would be better to get a splashy win now hire instead of a nobody program builder.

Not for the Noble: Harrumphs at the Huskies!
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's all fun and games right now. From a talent perspective it will be quite a rebuild for UW unless they can grab Jedd Fisch and he brings half UA's starters with him. Somewhere in the back of my head I am wondering what would happen if Pete Carroll takes the job... it's not outside the realm of possibility, and oooh my what a spectacle that would be. -
Agreed, but one has to think some transfers will follow DeBoer to Bama. I'd love to get Muhammad, a true shut down corner.

Alabama is gonna be a BIG PROBLEM for college football...for the next 2 years. After that, it's all downhill.

Not just Sleepless in Seattle, but Coachless in Seattle! Seahawks and Huskies with no coaches.

Alabama Slides to Their 5th or 6th HC Choice?
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Looking forward to the next article: Which Washington Players could Oregon Potentially Pursue After DeBoer Leaves? -
I agree. UW fans are calling for Jedd Fisch, who I think probably has better long term upside than Deboer, and he can bring his staff Noah Fifita with him. Frankly I think Alabama would have been better of with Fisch or the Missouri coach. Both can recruit, put together a staff a coach the game.

Something to Think About Before You Hit ‘Submit’
Solar replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Dr. Pepper commercial hits too close for comfort "Guys! That was the first play of the game.." -
At this point Norvell has the biggest motive to want the job. FSU just got sanctioned yesterday for recruiting violations. That combined with being stuck in the ACC...I'd have to think he wants out of there.
-
If Deboer goes, Washington beating Oregon in the PAC12 championship game will in hindsight be winning the battle but losing the war. I'm not sure Deboer is so desirable if they finished the regular season with two losses and just outside the top 10. Oh, and if DeBoer goes I expect Grubb to go with him rather than take over as HC. But that is speculation on top of speculation at this point.

Lanning Leaving: What We Know... (WHEW!)
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Bama Wish List: 1 Smart 2 Sarkisian 3 Lanning 4 Norvell 5 Kiffin 6 DeBoer When you remove those who have a better situation at their current school, the list drops to: 1 Norvell 2 Kiffin 3 Deboer My 2 cents. -
I'm going to watch Pate tonight to get his thoughts on BAMA as a program in the NIL/portal age. For all I know Bama is struggling a bit with NIL and the portal. It's not a wealthy state. Perhaps the struggles this year were the writing on the wall for Saban. It's hard enough having his coaches get poached every year, now if the NIL/Portal is another hurdle he has to overcome that other programs don't, then
-
Not surprising at all. DL could also see this as improving his odds of winning an NC at Oregon, with no Saban in the way, and if Harbaugh leaves...can anybody really convince Dan he is more likely to win a championship at Bama than Oregon? The resources are similar, recruiting will be a bit easier, but playing Kirby all the time?

This hot take bettors list is hotter than the face of the sun. Most of those names have no chance. It takes 2 to make deal.

There are 7 HC openings in the NFL at the moment. That being said, after the Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly and Cliff Klingsburry busts, I would think front offices would be very hesitant about going after a high octane offensive minded college coach. Now a proven NFL coach like Harbaugh is a different story. Combined with the Saban news, the coaching carousel is getting very interesting this year, not because of HC being pushed out, but instead HCs being pulled out.

Putting Lanning’s Second Year into Perspective
Solar replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Also, it was the quality of Taggarts recruits living up to their ratings that alongside Herbert enabled the ducks to win the Rose Bowl in 2019 and keep Oregon relevant.
