Finally. No point in have 130 teams in a single division where 100 of the teams have no chance to ever win it all Power X should be D1, G of X D2, FCS D3, D3 should be D4. Each division level is defined by their own playoff/bowl structure and pay to play arrangement. The only thing we should be debating is who is in which D level. Let's get the easy decisions worked out then the harder stuff is a little easier to deal with.

Is Bo Nix Being Punished for Oregon's Offense?
Solar replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Bo is more accurate than Marcus Mariota, and has better pocket presence and does better working through his progressions when he has his confidence. The only thing Marcus did better was his elite breakaway speed, which isn't worth much in the NFL where everyone has world class speed. Marcus went #2 in the draft. This QB class is better, but Bo is a first round talent, and I think scouts get that. -
A Couple of NCAA Nuggets That may Affect the Future of College Sports
Solar replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
So, are you thinking the Conferences become the management independent of each other, or do you think the conferences form a new umbrella management structure over the pay to play power conferences? Do you think they will only bite off Football or will they bite off all revenue sports? -
What Do YOU Want to See From the Spring Game?
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I wanna see Lanning's HS recruits (all classes) standing out, especially on the defensive line and at QB. I also wanna see some Jay Harris carries. -
A Couple of NCAA Nuggets That may Affect the Future of College Sports
Solar replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The NCAA is the organization in place to manage athletes as employees. Even if their entire existence has been dedicated to preventing athletes from being treated as employees, they need to hit the reset button and do their new job, which is to establish a framework of athletes as employees. If they really care about the students, they will set up a union as well. But they won't because they get paid by the colleges who will be on the other side of the bargaining table if a union is created. -
Oregon Ducks Football: Ducks in the Draft
Solar replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Speaking of Bo and JPJ, I saw them front and center in an Old Spice commercial during a Netflix movie intermission! No other collegiate players, just the two of them alongside two former NFL players presumably giving them the tips on how to stay fresh in the NFL after they get drafted. Cheesy and cool at the same time. I'd call it a sign of NIL success Oregon is having. -
I agree Jon. College athletics can adapt to revenue stream changes, but only if there is time to adapt. Getting hit over the head with a 4B dollar bill at the same time you are reacting to the revenue changes that are hitting over just a few years time puts the future of non revenue sport in great peril.

The Transfer Portal - Nothing New Under the Sun
Solar replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
All it will take is one of those scenarios being made into a court case against the NCAA and it is goodbye eligibility limits on college sports. There is no compelling technical reason why you can't continue to play while you continue to go to school. -
Jaden Rashada Moving AGAIN? Leaving Dilly?

He also took it very well when Lanning took Samples. Impressive dude. -
Is Lanning Outperforming with the Talent he Inherited?
Solar replied to Solar's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm saying that I don't think we had the superior roster to UW last year judging by the draft. I remember these Peterson classes and thinking there wasn't much separation with Cristobal's classes by star power, so it would come down to coaching. But it was worse than that as Peterson's talent evaluation was far superior to Cristobal's. Peterson found ballers, Cristobal found lunch pail guys. -

Saw a you tube video yesterday from locked on big 12 saying Miami wasn't getting into the power 2. Although he has his biased to wish they end up in the Big 12. -
15 Teams We Want the Oregon Ducks to Play for the First Time
Solar replied to Thomallister1291's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm not paying attention to the B1G conference schedule past this year. I mean the B1G created and published 3 official 2024 schedules this year due to conference realignments. THREE in 1 YEAR! What are the odds there is no conference realignment to rejigger schedules by the time the 2025 hits? Pate seems to think the ACC losing teams is decided this off-season affecting 2025. 2026 seems like there is no chance to keep things the same, especially with the playoff changes forcing Notre Dame's hand. -

I want nothing to do with Bama until all of Saban's players are gone. I'm sick of watching DeBoer work his coaching magic on inherited top shelf talent. In 4 years though? I want Bama! -
I believe this NFL draft will essentially book-end the era of Cristobal recruiting. His talent evaluation got a lot of positive reinforcement from the recruiting ranking services, but my oh my what let downs with a few exceptions, notably along the line of scrimmage. If you look at our "ranking" of graduating talent being taken in the Draft for the first two years of Lanning's era, you will see Oregon is ranked low compared to other teams that finished in the top 10-15; regardless of Cristobal recruits or Lanning transfers. Whereas Cristobal's staff was good at recruiting, mid at player development, and hot trash at player evaluation, Lanning's staff appears to be good at all three, at least if we account for success of our portal players. HS recruits are still a bit TBD as they still have to develop and muscle their way through the experienced portal transfers to get playing time.

Holy Crap! Oregon Was a Top-10 Defense Last Year?
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Looking at the list, outside Oregon and Georgia, the top 10 defenses were in the upper Midwest. Tell me that it isn't a factor to play football in bad weather and adapt your offense to that reality. I see Wisconsin as a test of that theory as they attempt to implement an air raid style offense. Will they face plant in November, or is it just a bad assumption that you can't pass in the cold? -
Holy Crap! Oregon Was a Top-10 Defense Last Year?

I'm very curious just how good/bad the B1G offenses really are. Our stats could end up a better in 2024 even with no improvement on D. If course I hope we do improve. -
Washington Player Arrested, Charged with Rape
Solar replied to anyotherduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It often depends on how much they knew and when. It's one thing to know of a verbal accusation, but it's another thing once formally charged. -
Nix only drawback is when the moment is too intimidating for him he feels rushed and his technique really falls apart. He has shown a lot of improvement in that area, but it still came out a couple of games for little stretches his senior year. So the big question is the NFL going to be too intimidating for him or will he be able to mentally adjust and maintain his confidence?
-
Yeah, but odds are, if you are picking 1-4 your QB sucks and you need a new one. lol.

Oregon Has a New SPEED Coach for Football...
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think it is a common misconception by those that don't care for track and field that it is simply a genetics competition, and there isn't much you can do to make yourself better. I was was already full grown my senior year of high school having done track for 4 years I never made the state meet in my jumping event at the 1-2A levels. But I walked on in college and ended up finishing 2nd in the Northwest region in NAIA nearly qualifying for the national meet my senior year. I wasn't a late bloomer but I trained at an Olympic level in college, to maximize the potential of my genes. That is why track is still a sport, and people don't just do one meet and retire saying I guess that's how good I'll ever be. Athletic ability is not a fixed value, strength endurance and speed can all be improved through hard and appropriate training just like any skill can be. So the speed coach working with strength and conditioning can absolutely impact a teams athletic ability on the field.
