Oh No! Oregon is Losing Nate Costa
Nate, at one point, was the heir apparent to the starting position prior to a pre-season knee injury. He had a history of knee surgery before initially joining the Ducks. The poor guy was cursed... The injuries eventually forced him to give up his dream of being a police officer. The football gods finally seem to be smiling on him.

Justin Wilcox on Why He Turned Down Oregon...
Hey, justin...Justin.... we know Oregon is a vastly superior opportunity to what you have going on at Cal. How about ditching what you've built, hiring a completely new staff, and moving to the nice little bungalow well provide in the Whitaker neighborhood? Seriously, it's possible JW fell in love with the area when his Dad was a 49er...

Justin Wilcox on Why He Turned Down Oregon...
I still think there's some prevarication going on here. I may not be a corporate CEO level thinker, but growing up In a a family that was pretty successful in multiple business ventures, the idea of this offer doesn't make sense from a business perspective. Don't fool yourself. OREGON's brand of football is too big of a BUSINESS to to hurry the hiring process, and settle for mediocrity.

Analysis: Is Dan Lanning an Upgrade from Mario Cristobal?
The lost production and lost due to untimely penalties was awful to watch, especially over the last two seasoms.. It's one thing to get beat down in every phase of the game, the way Utah handled Oregon this year, and a completely different issue to snatch defeat from the jaws of what should have been a sure win due to poor discipline, and the resultant penalties.

Tell, caoch..catch... What drew you to Oregon? "Have you looked at that Adidas, uh, stuff?" "C'mon, man!"

Analysis: Is Dan Lanning an Upgrade from Mario Cristobal?
I think Lanning would be well served by hiring a staff with the ability to change the very definition of "prevent offense". Oregon needs to 'prevent' opponents from believing they have any hope of staying in the game. Defense, especially the brand Lanning is used to. Needs to be supported by an offense that is powerful enough to put games out of reach, and keep it that way... CONSISTENTLY. The days of sitting on a slowly diminishing lead need to be gone for good. I can Dream, can't I?

Great Article! Coach Dan Lanning Arrives in Eugene: "I Feel Like the Luckiest Man on Earth"
My grandfather got to Oregon , after growing up in Kentucky and Oklahom in the late 19th century by driving a herd of cattle (on horseback, no less) from around Stillwater to Bozeman, then bringing a herd of horses to the Willamette Valley, just before the turn of the century... He and his brothers liked the place so much, they never went back. It happens.

Trojan Wire: "Dan Lanning was Oregon's direct response to Lincoln Riley at USC"
"None of this means Lanning won’t succeed handsomely. He could. If he makes a great offensive coordinator hire — unlike Jimmy Lake at Washington — Oregon could be special." Ouch! Even the Toe-jam honks think UW under Leak, er, Lake, was a joke. "Even without any football games being played, Mike Bohn and Lincoln Riley have already reshaped the chessboard in West Coast football." Leave it to a Trojan to take credit for something that may well have developed without their influence. There is definitely a reason the games are played on the field, rather than a simulator! GO DUCKS!

Lanning Hire Starting to Make More Sense
The fact that Lanning apparently reached out to Mullens and the Ducks, seems like a good starting point for the next step in Oregon's growth. Who knows what they will ultimately hatch together, but I bet it will be far more rewarding than this dud!

Great Article! Coach Dan Lanning Arrives in Eugene: "I Feel Like the Luckiest Man on Earth"
One has to wonder if Oregon might truly become "home" for the Lanning family... I know that it's hardly a surprise the way most coaches consider any team a tranition to the next big thing, but there are exceptions to every rule. Brooks ground out a long term ride at Oregon, with little glory to show for the effort. It would be a wonderful surprise for a young coach to come in, and build on Oregon's legacy for the long run. Either way, Go Ducks, and welcome to the Flock, Coach Lanning! Good luck, and Merry Christmas to us all!
