Looking at that linebacker list is pretty sad ... A good few at the top end of that list were complete flops. Quarterback was pretty depressing too with how many flops.

Lanning is living in Colorado fans heads rent free after that speech and beat down. So much so they seem to want a rematch... Too bad Colorado helped blow up the conference and the only rematch they can hope for is in the playoff... But that should be just as one sided as the last meeting.

What happens if Oregon State has a terrible season???? If Oregon State has a fantastic season their ratings will be meh... But if they only reach a bowl game... Or even fail to make a bowl game... What happens then? Same applies to WSU. The answer is oblivion by the way.

Their other sports will be in the same conference as Gonzega... The West Coast Conference... So whatever media deal they have there will apply to them. At least for basketball. Being as I couldn't remember the name of the conference... That's not a good sign.

With the ACC having some games on CW I think it's possible to get some viewership traction. But without a full conference behind them the viewership will be minimal.

That's one way to spin it I suppose. Polishing a turd feels more appropriate.

I think the B1G is counter balancing them a bit now. I guess in a way the consolidation of conferences might erode some of the SEC's influence ... Some as they'll have to share with the B1G.

Those deep non-threes look like they are shooting them almost granny style. Granted the best way to shoot free throws from a statistical standpoint is to shoot them granny style.

"As the other power conferences stretch across the country, I cannot help but think that the still “regional” SEC is kicking back and loving every hot and humid minute of it, smugly thinking, “Look at these clowns.”" I think the SEC (and more importantly ESPN) is eyeing some ACC teams. Probably FSU and Clemson at least... And maybe Miami. In terms of football the SEC is geographically blessed with loads of recruiting talent and high fanbase interest gives teams in their surrounding footprint high value.

Their loyal fans don't give a crap about them. Their spring game was an embarrassment and not just the lousy product they put on the field. Oregon packed it's spring game on B1G fashion. If the pac-12 still existed the Ducks would have had the largest crowd by a mile. In the B1G we have an upper end turnout for the spring game but not the top. Oregon State fans just don't care to show up. They did a great job filling their stadium last year... But only half the stadium was available due to ongoing construction to SHRINK their stadium. I say let them go to the Big 12 (other thread) and make them pay back the money to the rest of the former PAC. The Big 12 is just the conference of Power left overs.

I suspect there would be a lawsuit and that one might go the way of the other 10. I also wouldn't be surprised if there is already an agreement in pace if the pac-12 were to fully dissolve. I'm not optimistic that would be the case but so far the legal argument that OSU and WSU should be the only voting members is based on how they are the only conference members remaining. Which could be challenged if they leave. As far as I'm concerned the Big 12 is the least prestigous of the Power 4. They are the conference of left overs right now. The ACC has some valuable programs and they'll be pillaged next. OSU and WSU would fit in there .. but would they add anything? Probably just enough to be valued by the left overs.

Breaking into the Deep South is a tall order. The midwest, however, is doable especially with Oregon being a member of the B1G. Also college football being reduced to a power 2 gives Oregon potentially more pull in the pacific islands because its a bigger opportunity than say going to Utah or BYU. But with this staff I feel confident that they will fix this problem. I mean they have already dived into the portal multiple times to try and fill the gap which is also a viable strategy these days. It'd be nice to have recruits fill these roles but the portal is able to provide a few big bodies every year. As I have said multiple times at this point there aren't that many quality linemen in the portal but Lanning has a knack for getting them to Oregon. This staff has already done wonders in building Oregon's defense as they have already fixed Oregon's soft underbelly problem. As long as he doesn't have to play hero ball. And going at no. 12 is probably the best thing for him from the draft. High enough he is expected to start but low enough that he is not given a garbage team that is going to destroy him mentally and physically. Sadly getting drafted too early is in part what destroyed Marcus. I'm looking forward to have two former Oregon quarterbacks start in the NFL.

Haunt me? No. Will I feel better about it once we have a national championship trophy in our trophy case? Yes. It does feel like the refs put their thumbs on the scale a little bit or a lot with that game though.

I'm in agreement that I like getting voting out of the picture for a national champion. But I feel 12 teams is a false hope generator for most teams thinking they belong in the conversation where they don't. The Big 12 is going to be grossly disappointed. The G5 team will have more moderated false hope because they'll get on the field and get beaten regularly in the first round and if they do manage an upset they aren't making it out of the second round. I think in the new environment there might be at most 6 teams that belong in the title hunt and they aren't guaranteed to be conference champions.

I think the biggest factor in it all is actually Saban retiring. In part he was driven to retirement by NIL and the portal but if he was five years younger I think he'd stick around longer. Saban's retirement has turned college football on its head more than anything else this past year. And it will make NIL and the transfer Portal have a greater impact as teams see an opening for success. Saban's Bama team lost to Michigan in a close game where Michigan had a roster full of 5th year vets. If Saban wins that game he gets a national championship as Bama would have beaten Washington without a doubt.

I find myself agreeing with him in many points. Because to be brutally honest in any given year there are really only two at most three teams that are good enough to compete for the championship. Last year was a bit more interesting... But Michigan was clearly better than Washington. I think end of season Bama was better than Texas, even though Texas won against Bama early in the year. If I were to rank those four teams I'd put them Michigan, Bama, Washington, Texas. I know Florida State being snubbed was a major point of contention. Though without their starting QB and then having won a very very weak ACC I completely understand the snub. Should Georgia and Oregon been involved in the playoff? The reality there is that they lost their conference championship games and isn't that basically a playoff game? Win and in or win and move forward. They lost and were eliminated. I think either could have made a good playoff run in reality. I think Oregon matched up better against everyone but Washington. Washington could just exploit Oregon's defensive weakenesses in a way no other team Oregon played last year could. I think Georgia just had a bad day against Bama. But in both cases that's sports and life. I see the B1G and SEC champs being the heavy favorites and the Big 13 and ACC champs looking like they don't deserve their first round byes.

It would make sense because we're probably losing 2-3 at the end of this season. Whittington and James are probably both gone. I'm not sure on how many years are left on Harris' eligibility but I don't think it's many. If he has a good season he might be gone as well.

I don't want to get too neigh-gative but it feels like a lot of horsing around.

They're not P4 and they don't fully belong to the Mountain West Conference. I'd say BYU was in a similar spot until they joined a conference. They were better than a good portion of G5 but they weren't P5. They were somewhere in the middle. Oregon State and Washington State both exist in that middle zone and without an opportunity to win a G5 conference title I think they'll be blocked from the playoff unless Oregon State goes 12-0 and dominates all their MWC goes. This will require them beating the Ducks and I think the talent gap is just far too large at this point to happen.

Anything 7 or less is a coin flip by the odds makers. I'll take Oregon on those odds right now. It will be interesting to see where they are a week out from the game that's for sure.

I'd love Oregon to do a yellow out. Highlighter yellow at night! You know that would be epic and we all know it. It would also give us a little B1G flare.

USC hired the coach they deserve. Riley is a perfect fit for USC. They hired the flashy coach who won games in the Big 12 where defense is merely a suggestion.
