  1. Gotta pay to play. And being stuck in the Big 12 certainly doesn't help matters. Even if their collective had the money they can't sell being in the B1G or SEC.
  2. But unlike the NFL the biggest problem with NIL in the college game is that it's based almost entirely off fandom. And let's get real as fans we are not reasonable people. We all want our team to win the national championship and if we had the resources to do so we'd all be involved in these high profile NIL collectives. Whereas the in the NFL (and pros in general) players look for the best bidder during free agency. But in the pros with NIL that is attached to players for promotional reasons. Patrick Mahomes could be with ANY team in the NFL and State Farm would employ his NIL for their ads. There is a market for the best players to pursue NIL and it's separate from the organization they're with. For college the NIL game usually has little work involved outside of play for a given school. NIL is connected to teams in a way that it just isn't for anything else. @Solarmentioned he didn't agree with my definition of stabilized in the NIL market. The truth is that this is as stable as it gets. The market has smoothed out and mostly calmed down and sure there are those who wish to throw money all over the place and disrupt the market but there cannot be any true regulation on this. Even when paying players direct from the university comes into effect that doesn't stop the NIL dollars from flowing.
  3. This gives some insight into Oregon's NIL. I feel it supports my article quite well which I wrote before I saw this.
  4. A tidbit of info I came across on a pay site several days ago was that it is believed that coaches will cont as ct other coaches to see if the NIL proposals are real. This is to the benefit of both schools because they have some knowledge of what that player is worth and to avoid the player or agent trying to squeeze more out of them. The market has certainly calmed over 2022. TAMU and their collective learned that you can't buy a class and buy a championship. Tennessee was rumored to get their starting QB for about a million a year out of high school and though he may be great I don't think anyone would say he has lived up to that paycheck yet. I would say that the market has stabilized only because I believe there are a lot fewer instances of players being purely bought. I am sure there are still cases but development and traditional recruiting are still he most important aspects of landing a player.
  5. Tomorrow on FishDuck I have an article about NIL and how Oregon isn't buying players as USC and Longhorn fans are insisting these days. Our NIL is critical to our recruiting success but it is only part of it.
  6. Among other bad calls in that game.
  7. Keep in mind also that the NIL is handled so well that Oregon doesn't lose players we want to keep for the most part. Oregon has one of the best retention rates of top talent in the country as well as a solid NIL program for recruiting.
  8. He was working through an injury last year and played a few snaps in the bowl game and that's about it. I agree that I think he is going to have a major breakout year even if it's just as a rotation player. But stories like this that take a broader look and don't necessarily know full rosters even though Dicky was a big name.
  9. And we've lost plenty of recruits to Ohio State as well. It's just the losing when they think they should auto win by being Ohio State is what upsets them. They can join USC, Texas and Washington in their communal pity sessions in losing to Oregon.
  10. Absolutely... At this point Oregon has added pillaging Texas' backyard in addition to southern California. We're even in Ohio State's backyard these days causing some problems there.
  11. I think this is one that we don't land... I think we're full at receiver now with 3 commits. Edit... Just realized that he already committed by the time of my post. He choose Missouri. Which is delightful because that isn't USC or Washington! More tears!!!
  12. After reading stuff from their fan base what is clear is they think this is an anomaly from us. Kinda akin to some of the significant recruiting pulls the Ducks had during the Kelly era. They seem to believe we don't have a QB or a WR room with anyone if significance in it. I guess in their view if a QB isn't named Manning they don't count for anything. In short.... They think we are a wanna be program that will disappear to irrelevanence as soon as Lanning gets an offer for a better job. Nevermind the fact that he didn't show any interest in the TAMU or Bama jobs this last season. They know nothing about our program other than the most recent butt kickings on the recruiting trail.
  13. Apparently Lanning is from Florida... I know we lost the last two coaches to the state of Florida... But not this time. I love angering the blue bloods who know nothing about us.
  14. Came across this one of the other forums. I know that Oregon doesn't like to get into a bidding war if they don't have to, especially this early. Oregon doesn't over pay either. I said it once earlier and I'll say it again ... The NIL was probably the same or darn close.
  15. Remember in the age of NIL and recruiting pretty much all programs will look at each recruit the same way. Landing the Recruit - "we're awesome, he's coming here because we have a fantastic program and coaching staff and they bought into our vision for the future and love our tradition." Losing the recruiting - "We only lost because of NIL and we weren't willing to pay that price. Besides we don't want so-and-so because they're all about the money and our head coach doesn't want them because they won't fit our culture which is unique and special." The reality is that NIL comes into play with almost every recruit. Certainly every recruit that teams recruiting in the top 10 are after. Each NIL group and coach will know what a player is worth and may opt to not match a bid if there are other targets that are greater priority. But in this case... Texas and Sark absolutely wanted Moore. We'll never know the NIL price tag or the back and forth that took place. But I'm sure when the smoke settled the NIL payouts were darn close if not exactly the same and it was coaching and connection that won out. By the sound of it this one came down to the wire.
  16. We're getting another 5 star this cycle at least. A player may move up in the rankings and/or we land one on the recruiting trail. Lanning and Division Street have recruiting and NIL figured out. Oregon still has some geographic disadvantages but they're finding ways to overcome them.
  17. I need some empty bottles... I think it's time to start collecting the tears from other fan bases. Bottles for USC, Washington and now Texas fans. Fill them up with their tears!
  18. And this is off-season entertainment for us die hards! And if you're reading this you're a die hard fan because it's July (let alone the 4th of July as a holiday). The reality is that there is a whole lot of off-season with football. So we gotta take joy out of every moment we get. Go Ducks! Make the Longhorns cry!
  19. Ummm if Utah comes in with an at large bid from the Big 12 then who is the Big 12 champion? Kansas State probably... I find a second Big 12 team will be hard to get in.
  20. I love the line... "Oregon is making massive promises as you'd expect" And what? Texas isn't? This signing is going to coast a boatload of NIL from any team. The notion that Oregon is the line team buying players is bunk but the blue bloods love to smear us with it. Like they haven't bought athletes commitments before.
  21. It's impressive and though I'd rank him up there .... I'm doing so less by what he's done and just as much by what he is capable of doing. He's only in his second year and is still learning. I think he could be the best coach in the country in a few years but based off his first two years I don't know if I'd honestly put him at two. The homer in me would put him at one because I don't think there is any other coach I'd take right now. Well... maybe Saban but I don't think he counts in this scenario.
  22. The only reason why Washington was as good as they were the past two years was really the amount of 5th year players they had on their team from the Covid bonus year. Penix may have been the transfer portal headliner and elevated the team greatly but the bulk of that team was composed of Petersen era players who were coached well and put in a solid scheme for their experience to win. A 22 year old is just going to be bigger and even bigger than a more highly rated player who is a freshman or sophomore. Husky fans will never admit it but they benefited from having a team that needed all those years of play to make the jump into the NFL.
  23. I don't know... I think after a few years in the B1G USC may consider returning to the Pac-2 even with a massive pay cut just to escape Oregon.
  24. My money is on leave soon. Fisch made a mistake leaving Arizona. He is a Florida alum and by the sound of it I had his eye in that job when it opens up. At zona he could have won the big 12 this year, made the playoff, and had his choice of any job. Instead he gets a Husky team that is devoid any any talent and due to the timing he took over he didn't have the chance to try and refill that talent competitivly. Instead he took bulk from the portal. I'll be all too happy to see the Ducks demolish Washington this year.
  25. It feels like the Lanning era has been a long time at this point... but it's only been TWO years! Maybe it just feels longer to me because the Lanning era is as long as I have had children and having young kids distorts all sense of time. Putting Lanning’s Second Year into Perspective | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM This football season was a success for Oregon football. Now, it doesn’t feel that way because it was just a few points short of... Remove the Georgia loss and all of Lanning's losses have been by less than 7 points each. So much of that is fine tuning his game management and getting is rather young staff to learn those tough lessons in defeat. This could very well by the year he puts it all together!
