  1. Oh it could get worse... They have Northwestern this Saturday. If they lose that game then Franklin is going to get Kiffened, fired on the tarmac and not allowed to get on the bus home... but this is a home game for Penn State so I guess the equivalent to that is firing him in the tunnel and locking him out of the lockeroom.
  2. I watched Franklin's post game and they did put a spy on him. But... Either the spy wiffed their tackled on Nico or Nico caught them on a play they went man and didn't have a spy. I don't know how actually true that is or isn't but that's what Franklin said. Penn State Washington without a stating linebacker who was really one of the primary communicators. However, Moore ran for some important yards and first downs against a full strength Penn State defense. So their defense has problems.
  3. I'm not sure Day was glad to see him go in that sense. From a bunch of sources I have read/listened to was really the Day and Knowles had run their course. Day had become more of a micro manger and Knowles lost some of his autonomy. Warranted or not... That sort of thing gets old fast. So we'll see what happens at Penn State. Personally, I'm not sure he is the best DC in college football but the media loves saying it and Knowles is getting paid like the best DC so he better have answers.
  4. Pare had an interesting piece on how dynasties are kinda dead in college football and that's because the depth on every top tier team is thinner than ever. I see his point but I also can absolutely see teams that know how to reload and preserve their rosters could build some sort of dynasty. When it comes down to it there are few in the college football media that knows enough about every team to actually be truly informed. In the past with the super powers it was easy... Bama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State and whoever else you want to add to the list is going to be good and will contend. I mean how many times have we watched an Oregon game and found the announcers to know almost nothing about the team? A lot! And now the amount of teams that could potentially make the playoffs (not contend for the national championship) has exploded and these pundits don't know. Penn State Washington the bigger brand and the easier pick so they picked Penn State over Oregon. The old assumptions don't hold as.much weight as they used to because 10 years ago Oregon probably loses that game against Penn State.
  5. In fairness .... Boise is not on par with Boise from last year.
  6. Maybe Mario Cristobal has finally figured it out... But then again... The big games MC was usually prepared for, it was the games that were supposed to win that tripped him up.
  7. This is now the ultimate nightmare scenario.. . 0-6 start Oof
  8. Let me pose this question to those thinking Oregon's win over Penn State is diminished. Do you think Penn State would have lost today if they won last week? I think they would in that scenario.
  9. Not an entirely new scheme as that would require more than a couple weeks to install. They were up against an entirely new offensive mentality for sure. UCLA was playing with free money because their HC was fired and the season was written off. Why not get aggressive with the play calling? That's what they did was play like there was no tomorrow and frankly for that staff and those players at UCLA there might not be a tomorrow. Jim Knowles is time and time again referred to as the best defensive coordinator in all of college football. His defense just got ripped to shreds by a first time offensive coordinator and a program everyone has written off as dead. Penn State prepared their heart out for Oregon and Oregon shattered their heart. They're culture was broken coming into the game today. Now Penn State is in a state of do or die crisis. And it wasn't just the defense that got beat... But that Penn State offense just couldn't move the ball.
  10. Andy and Ani's take for those interested.
  11. Penn State still has a loaded roster. But they didn't play like they cared. They showed up to playing the LA sun and accept their free win over 0-4 UCLA. Credit to UCLA who was playing with house money and they knew it. It didn't matter what they did because they were expected to win. Penn State just phones it in for a half woke up in the second half offensively and still looked utterly confused against UCLA's offense. I haven't watched too much UCLA football this year. Probably as much as their own fans. So I don't know what they really did differently offensively but they played like they wanted to be there and cared. Penn State didn't want to be there. Even if UCLA was throwing new stuff at them they didn't adjust and didn't play sound fundamental football. This was a hangover game and it bot them. We'll see if Penn State bounces back.
  12. I'm going with Oregon broke them. They were out of it for the first half of this game. Turns out it's hard to win when you take a half off.
  13. Last year I believe the most college football carnage took place on bye weeks for the Ducks. This year hopefully holds true and does the same!
  14. The luck of the underdogs is starting to run out.
  15. Teams can go two ways after a tough loss. Adjust and refocus and go on a tear. Ohio State did that last year twice after Oregon and more of after Michigan. Or Completely fall apart. Penn State is opting for number 2 right now. Not to say a second loss may set them right but they didn't take UCLA seriously. No win team... Easy win. Wrong ... This is college football no win is easy. They just can look easy.
  16. Yes and no... Anyone with eyes can see Penn State's locker room and coaches are completely and utterly shattered. They played with intensity and passion last week. And lost. And in losing the media noise has obviously crept in as most of the narrative has been one part good job Oregon and two parts wow Penn State doesn't have it.
  17. Incredibly so... 24-7 and Penn State has zero signs of life. UCLA looks like a ranked team right now. Never mind that they are 0-4!
  18. Wait... What? How is UCLA leading Penn State? 10-7 ... It may only be brief but that's a hangover form last week.
  19. This year's first bye feels better than last year's. Last year the bye was earlier though came at the right time to help sort out the offensive line. This year everyone feels healthy and it's a rest up and keep working week. Feeling good about next Saturday at the moment.
  20. If Hughes does transfer out, which is likely, it is an incredible recruiting pitch for Lanning. When he says "if you're good enough, you're old enough" he absolutely means it. I don't think it would detract from transfers because we have seen so many transfers become major impact players and boost their draft stock. But for prep recruits... They have proof they can make a major impact as true freshman if they have what it takes.
  21. No it at all surprising. In truth I wouldn't be surprised if Hill and Davidson start taking over the RB room and rotation. They were by far the most effective backs against PSU.
  22. Oregon's defense was looking quite tired. I think it was a couple things. They were tired it was a brutal slugfest of a game. Oregon has a two score lead and complacency set in too much. The players probably subconsciously just took the foot off the gas and lost momentum. It's a rather young team still and it was a learning experience. But once OT hit they did get an adrenaline hit and pulled it together. In future games it will be interesting to see if they can close it out better. Keep in mind that the previous four games many of these players weren't even on the field for the fourth quarter.
  23. Incredible video. These videos are so good for the program. It's a recruiting tool and the fans love them. Additionally... It allows Lanning to give the most pointless press conferences where he basically answers none of the interesting questions. Because as fans we know we'll get something better. We'll get a peak behind the scenes with these videos.
  24. I think Moore has already learned his lesson and seen it pay off. He rushed to start in college and it didn't go well for him at UCLA. He sat and learned a year and developed and is now seeing the benefit of development. I'm still not banking that he'll be here next year but I do believe he is focused on the season right now and he will make his d vision to stay or go after a careful evaluation at the end of the season.
  25. Probably fair. But in terms of some of these rivalries getting some extra juice there is still the possibility of playing Penn State 2 more times this year..somewhat as t unlikely but possible.
