  1. I would be shocked if Lanning hasn't already called those on his short list about their interest in the job. Lanning knew Klemm was leaving before we learned of it, as that is usually the case.
  2. I believe Oregon withdrew the scholarship on Peevy because we had other prospects commit. Those two offensive linemen recruits kinda stung early in the cycle to be honest. But the big difference is that Oregon just went transfer portal and got some BIG time players out of the portal. At the time we did feel the sting but that quickly faded and if you count the portal Oregon did well complementing both the new recruits and the portal players. My understanding is that USC did well at some skill positions in the portal again... But we cleaned up in the trenches.
  3. I guess she gets her own Iones-shoes I couldn't resist making that pun.
  4. Especially when there isn't even a runningback threat in the backfield! Sometimes there will be those type of runs with certain opportunities and the QB just sees it and takes it... But running a quarterback out of an empty set is just a bad idea... And is pretty much always a bad idea.
  5. That seems about right... I keep reading that Oregon is often making competitive offers for top athletes but not necessarily trying to outright buy them. USC has worked to become relevant again by throwing money at recruits and seeing what happens. Texas and Miami have done the exact same thing so far and we'll see how that works for them in the long run as well.
  6. Another case where mom and the girlfriend win again. Really hard to win against those pressures. But keep in mind we may see Harbor again through the transfer portal. Granted five stars are a lot rarer in the portal because they usually get plenty of playing time and eyeballs on them.
  7. Gotta get top 10 classes to compete for national championships. Lanning is building his roster and we should see some good things next year. Let's get that defense sorted out and the offense should be humming. The schedule is pretty good for us too so should be able to make a run for it.
  8. That first one threw me through a loop... Is Lanning supposed to be trh frat boy and not Riley? Because if you had to choose between the two I'm pretty sure it would be Riley. Just look at their respective houses. Also... Trojan tears are delicious. Keep them coming.
  9. Going 1-1 on big time athletes is a good place to be for the Ducks. Also beating USC is always a good thing.
  10. Update on an article from 247 National Signing Day 2023: Oregon 'in good position for' 5-star Nyckoles Harbor, over South Carolina 247SPORTS.COM ... Also Oregon now apparently has a 247 person logging a prediction for Oregon to land Harbor... so who knows what is going on????
  11. Scapegoat #1 goes down at Maimi. Tune in next year for scapegoat #2.
  12. I think this was the biggest problem last year. No pass rush meant that the secondary could get picked apart all day and some days they did. The secondary has its problems but over the course of the year the secondary really did improve quite a bit.
  13. But you don't have to recruit at the NFL level and recruiting is absolutely brutal on the work-life balance.
  14. They certainly have flipped the roster. So I think that should help pretty quickly because these are the players Lanning wants rather than players he has inherited.
  15. I think it is the new normal that teams are going to be pretty young for the most part. Most players that don't contribute on the field will probably be pushed out of the program before they are juniors.
  16. Well... The funny thing is that because 2020 was the weird season that it was... It is ACTUALLY our turn to host USC. We played a regular season game at USC in 2019. 2020 we were supposed to host USC but civid messed all that up and we hosted UCLA instead who we weren't supposed to play until 2021. Then we played USC in the conference championship game (and won I might add) at USC but that was not a regular season game. So it's our turn to host... Granted I think they want 2020 to count even though it didn't count (like what Washington got) but I also think the PAC would like to see USC get it's butt kicked this year as well.
  17. Not a surprise, more surprising that he hasn't opted for the portal sooner. He could certainly see some playing time in G5 or on an FCS team if he just wants to see the field.
  18. It was the first year of trying this with any sport and is only one data point. It will be interesting to see how this changes for the duration of the Amazon contract with the NFL. I suspect the numbers will probably improve from year to year as more people get used to watching through a streaming service. I know I am on the younger side of participants at FishDuck and I cut my cable (which I only had for Duck games) and I will be moving to more exclusive streaming for my football fix moving forward as it is easier to sign up and cancel when the season ends. Once more people get used to accessing streaming services for their live programming I can see these numbers swinging the other way. The other interesting thing that might be difficult to track is how many people are sharing accounts on these streaming platforms? That could cause the numbers to be reported lower than they actually are.
  19. There is also the assumption that even the diminished Big-12 is going to be better than the Pac-10. I think TCU's National Championship game appearanced shows just how weak the Big-12 is going to be in the future without Texas and Oklahoma. He does say that the Pac will probably get a better media deal than the Big-12 but still I don't see the Big-12 being better at Football than the Pac in the near future. I think the Pac will be surprisingly fine and maybe after one cycle of the media deal and if both LA schools are bleeding out financially from the travel and the exhaustion we might see them wanting to come back... probably not... but still it would be funny.
  20. He's going from a G5 school to a P5 school... For the time being the pac-12 is still in that upper tier of schools. Pay is one thing that would be better but the other thing is that he gets more attention and becomes a high profile coach. If he wants to be a head coach some day then this is a step in that direction.
  21. I'm not surprised, I think the expectations for this USC team were so sky high and they fell short of it that I wouldn't be surprised if more end up leaving for the NFL if eligible. I also remember some rumors after he transferred that maybe he didn't get the NIL money that was offered to him originally.
  22. It goes to show just how far Oregon's recruiting juggernaut has come when they start taking 3-star local kids as PWOs instead of a scholarship. We have seen this happen a ton over the past few years where athletes from Oregon join the Ducks as PWOs because they aren't good enough to warrant a scholarship out the gate. This is a major change for the program. Not all that long ago this would have been a scholarship for Oregon but not anymore.
  23. This makes a lot of sense in some ways... Cam knows the staff and is going somewhere sunny and warm to play his final years. Say what you will about Cristobal but he did stick with Cam through years of injuries. Cam has too much history of injury to get to the NFL no matter how much he sees the field in his last two years. We won't play him, barring any sort of bowl game, so I just wish him the best.
  24. The clock is ticking for Dabo... Clemson has been the juggernaut he created at the end of the 2010's and he needs to get it back. Clemson has been all about continuity as a major factor to their success but they need some new blood and an injection of life. Clemson is the ONLY thing that makes the ACC relevant when it comes to football. FSU is on the rise with Norvell but who knows how good they'll be in a couple years... Clemson doesn't want to be no. 2 to FSU that's for sure.
  25. I believe the promises of money in this range... not sure if I fully believe the payouts at the moment. But there are fan bases have have some rich alumni who want their program to be relevant again... looking at Florida for this one but we have also seen this with Tennessee and USC and Texas would also make that list. I can see a lot of these programs lacking any sense of restraint and promising loads of money but then not delivering come signing day.
