EUGENE, Ore. – In continuation of what has been an incredible run for Oregon men’s golf alum Wyndham Clark, the former Duck was one of four men’s golfers selected to represent Team USA at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) on Tuesday. Selection to the team is determined by the World Golf Ranking system in which Clark is ranked fifth overall and third among Americans. Clark will join Scottie Scheffler (No. 1 WGR), Xander Schauffele (No. 3) and Collin Morikawa (No. 7) in representing the Stars and Stripes in the 33rd edition of the Games. Clark, who won the 2023 U.S. Open and finished third in the 2023 PGA Tour final standings, has resumed his impressive performances in 2024 by winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and logging back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship in March. Clark is the first UO men’s golf alum to be named to an Olympic team. The former Duck and his teammates seek to uphold a tradition of excellence among U.S. golfers as Americans have captured 13 Olympic golf medals while no other nation has earned more than three. Men’s golf at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris begins on August 1 and will run through August 4. All competition will be held at Le Golf National, located in the city of Guyancourt, which is southwest of Paris.

I'm sure USC fans took the news well...

You know, I would not want this because of how it would help USC recruiting, but it would be fun to shock everyone the first year in the B1G. Oregon wins through, and Michigan beats Ohio State, and USC beats Michigan and the rest of their B1G games, thus the B1G Championship of the Ducks and Trojans would have NO interest to most the of the B1G fans...but....I thought it would be...

Alex, I am glad to see someone else stick their neck out first. The schedule is tough, but this will be an incredible team that Oregon will put on the field, and one that could go undefeated. In fact my prediction is that we will go undefeated through the regular season, and in the B1G Championship. We will end up as the national No. 2 Seed behind Georgia, who we will meet in the 'Natty. That is as far as I go, since that is enough of a stretch! I do agree with you Alex, that being undefeated would give Oregon the swagger needed going forward, and would show continued progress under Dan Lanning.

They sound ready, but there was one surprise to me, and it is below... Q: What presence should Olympic sports expect to have on the Big Ten Network moving forward? A: In short, a large one. We’re projected to produce more than 600 linear television events this upcoming year, and somewhere between 50-60 percent of that inventory will feature Olympic sports. Last year, we set network all-time single-event viewership records in women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, and women’s gymnastics, so the prospect of adding the caliber of Olympic programs we see at these schools has tremendous appeal. At the same time, this will be an area of change for fans. Because we offer a single linear network, with finite broadcast windows and 18 schools to cover, B1G+ acts as a complementary streaming platform and is home to a sizeable amount of Olympic sports coverage. On that note, we are planning to work with schools and their fan bases in this first year to sample the B1G+ product at either complimentary or deeply discounted rates. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- So, my Oregon Baseball will probably be on B1G+, and softball may be that way as well. Looks like another monthly fee for five months!

In other portal news...Oregon is not losing any starters to the portal, only a few who played very little, or not at all like Jackson Pace and Mathew Grabmann. The Ducks are in the hunt for more coming to Eugene... Meanwhile, Beavis is not suffering widespread defections; in fact only one starter who was about to be replaced anyway, and some reserve players...all this thus far. So it looks like they will be OK as well.

I have pondered that, and concluded that we were too small and deficient in 2022 on defense, and the coaches couldn't make a change without taking a chance of it getting even worse. They know a lot more football than I, and more important--know the personnel, while I am not at practice every day as they are. The players we will have on defense this year is like night-and-day difference. Remember--after the Eastern Washington game in 2022, the coaches realized that we had to play a very safe, conservative and simple defense that year. Last year in 2023 we saw a TON more blitzes, and I believe we will see even more this year. Coaches get seem to get smarter when the talent is better...

I admit that a nephew had a wedding celebration-reception on a home gameday....and we sent a gift and begged off. And they knew that on a Oregon GameDay...I was kinda crazy.

Indiana State was a surprising good team in the playoff.... “Stinson, another smooth-swinging left-handed outfielder, was outstanding in his junior season at Indiana State, hitting .295 with 15 home runs, 15 doubles, 51 RBIs, 44 walks, and 68 strikeouts. Stinson finished the season with an on-base percentage of .442, a slugging percentage of .604, and an OPS of 1.045”

Wrong. The Ohio State game IS a life event, just as the Michigan game in 2003 was, just as "The Pick" was to me.

We are MUCH better than what they list. They "forgot" two-time All-ACC Duke Safety Brandon Johnson who portal transferred in, as well as super-fast corner Kam Alexander from UTSA, and All-Big12 Kansas State Safety Kobe Savage. Add those guys, and I can hardly imagine a more elite defensive secondary. What Lanning has done is just amazing...

Nothing more to correct. Again...the difference between our starting corners of Jahil Florence and Kyree Jackson over the subs of Twikze Bridges and Donte Manning was signficant in the Washington games of 2023. Yet we did NOT have our starting corners in the second half of the first Washington game, and the ENTIRE second game. We lost by only three points each time to a very skilled passing team? Our starters are worth more than three points in a big-time passing game....who knows how many plays Jackson alone would have prevented? Have healthy corners and we are fine. And this year....we have a boatload of corners, and the starters are even better. (Muhammad and Alexander) The Super-Fast Kam Alexander...

The word is, we backed off, recruiting him with using the scholarships of the recent offensive line high school verbals.

I read that as well. Between the big high school classes, and in particular, the portal classes--not as much room.

On another site, they reported a list of the ten recruits visiting this weekend and it blew me away. High 4-Star and 5-Star players deciding between the biggest programs, and Oregon is right in there. Next weekend is a list nearly double, and between the two weekends...one pundit said, "that is a future list of All-Americans being recruited." For Oregon to be so strong in the mix has me again shaking my head at our good fortune with Dan Lanning. There is not a single 3-Star visiting over the next two weeks, although I do love the project guys that we develop. The point is--the quality on the Oregon campus is so much higher than when even Cristobal was recruiting, and he was pretty darn good. Whew! We gotta count our Blessings... What a great time to be a Duck!
