  1. A popular notion by Beaver fans is, "you would be nothing without Phil Knight." What I remind them of is...winners want to work with winners. Only after we got to the 95 Rose Bowl without Phil, and then to the Cotton Bowl did Phil accept our invitation to talk about helping. We had to do it on our own first.
  2. In other words, the conference needs to be "top-heavy" for multiple or any Playoff participants in the current formula. But the good news is... 1) The number going into the Playoff is about to change to 12 over the next couple of years, and 2) Oregon could become a "Clemson" of the Pac over the same couple of years and make a high seed in the Playoff, IMHO.
  3. Drex has put together quite the informative and entertaining article for the Irregulars of the OBD forum. (I love that reference to us!) A new verb for Oregon fans? When a coach is "Stony-Brooking" it? Oregon Head Coaches: If You Leave, Your New Team Will Fire You FISHDUCK.COM From a couple of bleacher bums, here's a revelation that every Oregon head coach should consider: if you jump ship for a new head coaching position, you won'
  4. We have three objectives with the 'Feed: 1) Provide the one place that is free to everyone to get the news/articles about Oregon Sports, and 2) we are not bringing them all to you, as there is massive redundancy among all the sites. We curate the best of each Duck topic and bring them to you, in addition to the major news that all Oregon fans should be informed of. The final one, 3) We are bringing the tasty topics and tweets that can copied and brought to the main forum area for discussion with this wonderful community. We will restrict the number of articles to the FishDuck Feed to under 50, thus it may be 40-something, or the Focused Forty articles and tweets to be aware of for each day. News and articles updated throughout the day!
  5. We might, but that’s not the profile at Georgia. They did not have anybody as big as Sewell at linebacker at Georgia, they were lighter, faster and athletic. One of the touchdowns by Stanford in the second half was the running back beating Sewell on a wheel pattern out of the backfield. He was slow to recognize it, and could not stay up. Not a problem for Bassa…
  6. We are doing just fine without Flowe because of Bassa, who could end being an acclaimed star on his own. Keith Brown is playing well too, and we have some young-guns on the move upward.
  7. No, I'm not getting into the stalking zone here, but the buyouts of recently fired coaches. Below are stats from a recent John Canzano article, and it strikes me how you could make a name for yourself as an OC or DC and guarantee being a rich man no matter what. You get hired as a head coach and whether you succeed or fail...you are set for life, and then some. Willie Taggart can enjoy just coaching at a smaller school because it doesn't matter for him, since Florida State paid him 16 million to go away. Usually if you get someone that mad at you--there is a restraining order involved, not a lucrative buyout. When you think about it--it is quite the racket to get-rich-regardless of the results! • Paul Chryst, Wisconsin: $16.4 million • Karl Dorrell, Colorado: $8.7 million • Scott Frost, Nebraska: $15 million • Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech: $11.4 million • Herm Edwards, ASU: $9.4 million And yes, Oregon is part of that racket as well. No halos anywhere!

  9. I may politely disagree with you, but I’d certainly welcome your input more often here!
  10. It also gets back to our current goals and expectations. For Oregon to be No. 12 right now with the butt-kicking we took from Georgia...I am counting my blessings! When I look at the usual cabal of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Clemson...I don't see Oregon busting through those for a Playoff spot. But I do think it is possible to end in the top-ten, and if Oregon did that in Lanning's first year?
  11. This was not allowed at Georgia, and I'm surprised and quite disappointed at what I see. Now an argument can be made that today's athlete is different, and you have to give a little, especially with the portal always available. The excessive celebrations with a sack, or wolfing at pass defense or trash-talking by receivers is disgusting to me. Lanning is new at this and wants to be liked by the players... But I don't like it. How about you?
  12. Sorry, but it looked like disjointed pajamas to me, almost garish. Give me some stripes and match things up better! The color combination is fine, but how it was done...shudder.
  13. To me, Ty seems "flat" with a profound absence of leadership presence. There is no "it" factor, and I am taking that entirely from what we see on TV.
  14. FG Lumber nailed the point spread of 18 points with his 35-17 score. Thus using the criteria of the past--he wins. But EastBayDuckDad had a score that was pretty close at 48-27 (vs. 45-27 actual) but his spread was 21 points. Mic, 45-24, was also 21, and Krsmqn, 38-18 was close at 20 points. If you were deciding...who would you declare the winner, and why?
  15. There are some GREAT tweets, humor in this article... Oregon Football: Social media reacts to Oregon’s blowout over Stanford DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM After last year’s trauma, Oregon fans certainly enjoyed watching the Ducks blow out Stanford on Saturday.

  17. Amen. He puts a ton of time into researching these schools, and then creating humor? Whew! Glad he's on our side!
  18. Here we are my friends, the thread for discussing the actual game as it happens. The vast majority of you are GREAT in this thread, but you must remember that this forum is different, as we like civilized discussion, and really don't want to read nonsense from other people. I have had to ban a few people in the past...simply because of this thread. They were fine during normal forum discussion, but turned into something ugly in this thread when things in the game did not go well. Posting negative is fine, but going dark on the entire program, the future of Oregon football, the IQ and tenure of Dan Lanning over one play, one decision or even one game is too far. Again, usual negative observations and opinions about the game are fine. No venting. Telling us you don't like the interception and adding some salt to it is fine, but hammering us many times in the thread about how stupid something is--will be deleted. This is a place to let go, but not vent. Can you tell the difference? When you write that Oregon is playing like crap, or sucks, etc....do you really think your astute observation is not already noticed by everyone else? When you are writing stuff like that...you are not adding comments or analysis, you are venting. Again....negative is fine! This is the hard part of moderating, and that is explaining how 95% of the negative written is just fine. What about being critical of the players/coaches? We can be critical of player performance and coaching decisions, but we cannot get personal on them. I really do want you all to have fun with this, and sorry for having to delve into it, but I know I need to spell this out for a few people. Now let's have some fun discussing this upcoming game of the Dan Lanning era!
  19. Agreed, as writing humor is hard, but boy Alan makes it fun for us!
