Something that all fan bases complain about when a recruit is lost, is how the winning team provided a "bag" of NIL for the recruit. Washington fans say this all the time, and frankly--on the Oregon subscriber sites--when we lost a couple of recruiting battles in July--our fans claimed losses due to excessive NIL. (And I do think that happens when a school goes "all-in" for a particular recruit) Oregon explains right up front, that our NIL is competitive, but not the highest, ever. We will get out-bid for recruits on a regular basis as we sell the total package of what Oregon offers, which includes a LEGIT NIL organization in Division Street. Oregon has 14 of the 4/5-Star players verballed, which trails last year's 16 by the Lanning staff, and the all-time record of 19 by Cristobal in 2021. But it is only August 8th! We have an excellent shot at the record this year...

My Duck-Buddies...I cannot make this stuff up, and I should be ashamed, but after getting crunched by them for so many years--their salty tears taste pretty sweet to me. Isn't it great?

Holy Crap! This is BIG, but fans need to remember....this particular recruit is very impressionable. Whoever has the last visit wins, and between now and the December signing date...don't ink this one for certain. But I do think the B1G announcement helped to offset the major recruiting wedge that USC is trying to drive with every recruit. And Oregon just took it away.... Isn't it GREAT? He is a 4-Star on Rivals, and offered by Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, USC and....Washington! Ahh, NOT!

For the Beavers?

I am not a fan of Colin Cowherd, but he did correctly state recently that college football has a lack of big games. Most of the Pac-12 games did not move the needle beyond their own fans. But now, on a given weekend you will have a TON of big games in the B1G; picture Washington at Michigan, Penn State at Oregon, Ohio State at USC, and UCLA at that killer stadium in Wisconsin? These are big games that are compelling, and our four former Pac-12 teams really help create that interest. The synergy between the B1G and the four new teams is something you can sense already. I have heard from tons of people that "going to a game at Autzen is on my bucket list." Well, we might just have a seat for you soon!

Believe me, I do not like the travel for our minor sports. And showing how Baseball will be a bit easier for Oregon is yours-truly trying to make the best of it again. And yes--we will still recruit well for Baseball because... --Waz develops players, and they can see it. --We now have a hitters park. --Waz will schedule tough non-league games and our RPI will be excellent. --We will still play USC and UCLA in Baseball, and the damn Huskies beat us this year too. --We are OREGON for crying out loud! Our brand, our stadium and facilities... The momentum in Oregon Baseball is surging...

I had not thought of it this way...but we no longer have our fate decided by three proven losers as Pac-12 Commissioners. (Don't forget the guy before Larry, Tom Hansen!) We now put our fate with the B1G Network, CBS, NBC, Fox and more--it feels better already, and I did not anticipate feeling like this.

Right. And do they think the majority of the fans wanted this? Meanwhile it is being sold as a great thing to LA teams? We are all being pulled into this....

As if the Beavers did not hate us enough....now they will blame all this on Oregon, as usual. Perhaps not playing them for a number of years might be a good idea to let the hatred decline a bit?

When it comes to Softball, there are four of the future B1G teams that ended in the top 25 in June, and THREE of the four come from the old Pac-12. No. 5 Washington No. 12 Northwestern No. 13 UCLA No. 15 Oregon When it comes to Baseball? Whew! Below are ALL THE TEAMS of the new B1G that were ranked in the top 25 in June. (D1 Baseball website) No. 12 Oregon That's it! I think our Diamond Ducks could do pretty well in this conference!

It also comes down to exposure and availability to Oregon football; do I want it primarily streaming, or most on TV for now? Streaming or the Fox Big-10 match of the week versus Michigan with all the hype? Our audience with B1G is going to get massive! If they build more seats at Autzen from private donors...that millions of extra revenue is directly tied to the B1G alignment. It will be a big difference, and again--I was going to make the best of where ever we end up. Minor sports are going to get hosed in travel though...but they would have also been hosed with the Big-12.

Unfortunately....I am just as pathetic. When I read how mad Oregon makes them...

Bring in Cal & 'Furd, and with 20 teams we can have two divisions of 10 each. Play the other nine and three non-conference, a conference championship...and we're good!

Superb article David, and the worst part of it all for me? The company that effectively destroyed the Pac-12, Fox, we now will have to embrace, watch their telecasts and soak up their adulation.

That means those are EARLY games in the day, no Jammies needed in the middle of a 7:00 PM telecast. Great for fans watching TV...
