  1. Omigosh! Here is an article explaining how Oregon's Bend-But-Don't-Break defense was instrumental in beating Florida State in the Playoff. GREAT information, and quite entertaining! Oregon's Bend-but-don't-Break Defense: IT WORKS FISHDUCK.COM We examine how Oregon's defense works in the Rose Bowl against Florida State. It bends, but does not break, and this defense works!
  2. Thank you DZC, and below is a short primer on Lanning's MINT defense... Green Blitzes: Lanning Begins the New Mint Defense at Oregon FISHDUCK.COM For the first time in nearly a decade–watching the defense at Oregon is going to be highly entertaining again due to the new Mint defense and pressure packages...
  3. This article is not what you are seeing anywhere else, nor were the two articles yesterday. We may not like this strategy at times, but we have to trust that Lanning is trying to win with the players he has--with the skills/knowledge they have. In my research, I found a TON of sophisticated blitzes at Georgia, and I would like to think we will see them gradually over time. But the fact is--we had some major blitzes against Eastern Washington...that went nowhere. Hence the strategy we are running now... Do remember that when we got a lead, Nick would run a ton of turnover-creating blitzes, and I'd like to think we will see more over time, but like DZC...I think the Bend-But-Don't-Break concept is the fundamental strategy of defense this year.
  4. We have three objectives with the 'Feed: 1) Provide the one place that is free to everyone to get the news/articles about Oregon Sports, and 2) we are not bringing them all to you, as there is massive redundancy among all the sites. We curate the best of each Duck topic and bring them to you, in addition to the major news that all Oregon fans should be informed of. The final one, 3) We are bringing the tasty topics and tweets that can copied and brought to the main forum area for discussion with this wonderful community. We will restrict the number of articles to the FishDuck Feed to under 50, thus it may be 40-something, or the Focused Forty articles and tweets to be aware of for each day. News and articles updated throughout the day!
  5. I had my fill of Cam Lewis a few years ago, but last year he was not bad. Now the years of experience are paying off as he is perfect on the season thus far, and made all three attempts in Pullman. The Winning Points?
  6. Good logic, but it is sweeter to beat the Huskies when they are ranked high...and I cannot help but wonder if both teams at the end of the season will be considered...
  7. Tomorrow's article by DZC is a dandy, so don't forget this comment of yours.
  8. I think Bridges is improving, and these are great learning games for him. I am still surprised that the highly rated Dontae' Manning has not won the job.
  9. I am always looking at how to make things easier for the reader, and one thing I noted was how our Topic boxes on the front page were much bigger than other sites. By cutting about a third of the space out of them--it means you can scroll that much faster. I thought this also important for mobile too. The negative is that it is a little squeezed and could be a touch less comfortable for reading, but you can scroll a ton faster...oh the trade-offs! Thoughts?
  10. You know...the pitchers will be better, and will be pushed by the new guys. And returning six starters in the field? That is a pretty strong team coming back! (From Oregon Athletics Press Release) EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon Baseball team will hold its first of 15 fall scrimmages on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at PK Park before the Ducks’ football game against Stanford. Tailgaters and other fans are encouraged to attend with free admission to all scrimmages. “My staff and I are beyond excited to have these scrimmages open to the public throughout the fall,” Head coach Mark Wasikowski said. “For us to be able to feature our 2023 team before home football games will give us an electric environment at PK Park during our scrimmages. “It will give fans the opportunity to get more familiar with the team while they are having fun with their friends and families tailgating for absolutely no cost,” Wasikowski added. “This is a huge win four our fans, our players and our program. We really look forward to showcasing this very talented group to the public starting this Saturday. Go Ducks!” Oregon’s 15 scrimmages are all open to the public and take place between Oct. 1 and Nov. 1. All but one of the Ducks’ scrimmages will feature inter-squad competition with the exception of the Oct. 12 matchup against the Okotoks Dawgs, a team from Canada. Oregon will also hold a scrimmage on Oct. 22 before the football game against UCLA. Oregon returns 21 players, including six position player starters and all three members of the weekend rotation, while adding the nation’s No. 5 recruiting class. Isaac Ayon (16), RJ Gordon (8) and Jace Stoffal (8) combined to make 32 starts on the mound in 2022, while outfielders Tanner Smith (61) and Colby Shade (59), infielders Gavin Grant (56), Jacob Walsh (55) and Drew Cowley (38), and catcher Josiah Cromwick (31) all started more than 30 games for the Ducks. In addition to the three weekend starters, the Ducks also return four relievers – Matt Dallas (29), Logan Mercado (25), Stone Churby (20), and Andrew Mosiello (15) – who made at least 15 appearances last season. Concessions will not be sold at any of the scrimmages, so fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drink. Nine of Oregon’s scrimmages will take place on weekends with five on Sundays and four on Saturdays. Three will take place on a Wednesday, while one each will take place on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Dominic Hellman is a new freshman at 6'6" 245 lbs. and an infielder? (Look out Jacob Walsh!)
  11. Especially considering the TJ Bass is awesome and has not yet allowed a sack from the dangerous blind-side. I agree with playing Connerly extensively as they are doing on defense and continue the "Big-Boy" package. Later on? We may need Conerly's feet on the right side for key pass protection downs. So, I am not ready to start him, but playing extensively...absolutely.
  12. Not kidding, as this is a thing. Look at DZC's thread below for two videos, but this one I found is longer, but fascinating. And yes...the quarterback (red arrow below) is allowing the defender assigned to the running back to charge without the QB pulling the ball, and in fact he sticks his rear-end into that direction! The analyst in this video claims it creates an extra blocker for the running back No. 25, but nah...the defender hitting the QB is already left unblocked, so not a blocker gained. Just a different way of running an Inside Zone or Power play. This will be a HOOT to watch for! (Where else do you get this stuff?)
  13. Yet the points given up by the air and the average pass play against us...is not good. I went overboard writing "best of both worlds" because we have not achieved the ideal yet. But it points to where Lanning wants to go, to improve at. And the defensive strategy is based upon a confidence in the offensive scoring tons of points. Sometimes coaches devise plans to make the best of their talent--even though it is not ideal in many ways. The objective is to win any way you can. The 2001 team that ended up No. 2 in the nation...scored on average 34 points a game on offense, and gave up 21 points a game on defense. That offensive number is quite pedestrian by current standards, and the defensive number is good, (one that I'd love) but not great. That team just found ways to win. Maybe we are trying to find our "sweet-spot" in strategy for winning?
  14. This stat blows my mind DZC, because it begins to make my mind rumble at other thoughts, and we will have to do a "conference" later today about it. Chip Kelly always told us that when the other team is operating with a two-high safety look...you run the ball on them. With one less defender in the box, and that always shouted "run-the-ball" to Chip. (and most coaches) But are we potentially getting the best of both worlds? We are stopping the explosion plays, but also stopping the running attack with a two-high safety look that is known to give up more in the running game? Perhaps I am being too harsh on the front seven, and it begins to make me view the defensive strategy of Lanning in a new light.
  15. It was on this day a year ago that the OBD forum started up again for good. It was up earlier for three months in 2021, but was pulled until things could be figured out and it returned up on September 29th of 2021. It has been one year since the permanent launch... In that time period we have had: 52,424 posts written! Wow! Out of those posts, we have had 185 post violations, (deleted or edited) which comes out to a rate of just over a third of 1%, or still just in the 3/10ths of 1% area of all posts written is all. Now it sucks for me with all the time spent sending out the violation emails, and having to haggle with some people, but between that and the incredible work of our moderators--we have experienced a forum like no where else. Now we have the new one-place to get our Oregon Football News with the FishDuck Feed, thanks to the extraordinary time given by that volunteer team! It takes a ton of volunteer time to make this the GREEN REFUGE that it is for us, and I am grateful for the help and grateful for a community of nice people to discuss Our Beloved Ducks with! After all that time and work...we gotta celebrate!
  16. In my view, that assessment is incomplete, as it does not take into account the number of times you blitz five or six, and get burned in the secondary because the opposing offensive line held up against us well. That was what was happening at times in games, IMHO. We have done some bigger blitzes with little effect, thus it makes sense to send fewer and rely on a secondary that is getting better every game. It is not ideal, but I believe it is the baby-step Lanning is using for now.
  17. A problem we all have now is battling the very short attention span the web has created within us. It is now only eight seconds, and that means we all are impatient and do not want to take any extra time to read or learn things. I would ask you to consider fighting that natural urge today and take ten minutes to enhance your understanding of Oregon football with the two FishDuck analysis articles posted today by DazeNconfused and yours-truly. It does take a little time to concentrate on the material, but once you do--it will help you far beyond with your understanding of Oregon football for the time spent. Fight the short attention span and learn more football!

  19. I just got free of today's commitments to come to the forum to see this incredibly kind promo for my article tomorrow. What will be fun for everyone is that DZC was being very humble because HE has created an article that I called "a masterpiece" last night that will also be published tomorrow. Thursday will be an analysis day like none other on FishDuck; an opportunity to learn about what the heck is going on with our defense and why. I was astounded at how superb DZC's explanations were in his article, and how easy it was to learn from them. And without knowing it...we were writing about a similar subject, but different elements of it. You could not have planned it better than how it will appear tomorrow. The article from DZC will be a foundation article about the Lanning/Lupoi defense that I will be putting in the FishDuck Analysis Library. So while DZC and I are glad-handing each other...I would like to think that the readers are going to be highly informed and entertained. We are big fans of each other's work, and this is going to be quite the double-header!

  21. Giving up an average of 31 points a game...yikes. Where the offense could improve a bit more, the defense has a lot more upside!
  22. Good read Joshua, and thanks. Who saw this massive progress coming? Dilly is a quarterback whisperer!
