Oregon Ducks Favored by 21 Points Against Colorado: Too High?
Charles Fischer replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is a great preview for how the new, improved defensive backfield. If we do well in this game, as I anticipate, it will bode very well with the rest of Conference play. I thought the Hawaii game would be that indicator, but I think their receivers are much slower than what we will see in conference play. -
Stein Surprises: Oregon Unveils a NEW/OLD Zone-Read?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is a classic Outside Zone in one direction, and it can go for BIG chunk yardage when blocked well. Because of all the eye-candy on the other side of the play--the Ducks have an excellent chance at hat-on-hat blocking, or close enough to where Bucky can make one guy miss, and take it to the house. As LaMichael did so often... If the defender being read does chase the running back--the QB has a lane to pick up chunk yardage on the backside of the defense. And don't sleep on the Bubble Screen, because with TEs blocking smaller DBs--this could also do well. Especially with the new freshman No. 18, Kenyon Sadiq, who really has wheels. -

I think it will be good audiences numbers--in the first half. Advertisers in the second half may be pretty disappointed... -
Stein Surprises: Oregon Unveils a NEW/OLD Zone-Read?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This happened often for Chip's O-Line as well. The important thing is that when a defensive lineman has penetration into the backfield--that the offensive lineman simply shields him from the running back. That was done in this example, thus it did not blow up the play. But your overall point is well taken; they do not block this as well as the teams of 2010-2015, because the precise expertise in coaching is unavailable. I lamented how they treated Steve Greatwood when Helfrich was fired, because when Greatwood left....all the institutional knowledge on "how to block this" was lost. I went to a coaching clinic a decade ago when Greatwood spoke. He detailed everything with every step an offensive lineman would take with the Outside Zone...movement of the feet correctly, the placement of the hips, the hand placement, etc. They truly had it down to science, and thus why they could run it so often, and so successfully. There was the story of the Oregon State DC in 2009 who shouted in frustration at his defense...."it is the same fricken play!" -
This is from a pay-site, thus I could not bring the entire article. But we have FIVE portal transfers that could make an impact, and this is NOT counting the high school recruits coming. Oregon also dipped into the portal, landing outfielders Mason Neville, Jeffrey Heard, and Justin Casella. Pitching wise, Oregon added Gonzaga transfer Bradley Mullan and Quinnipiac transfer Kevin Seitter. "Time will tell, but they've had success. Those are really good players," said head coach Mark Wasikowski about the transfer additions. "Mason Neville is a guy that's a really good player, was a really good player in high school. We recruited him hard, he chose to go to Arkansas now he's back, which is great. We're thrilled to have him, and all the kids have things they need to improve upon. But there's a couple of kids now that you mentioned that they've had some real success at the college level and should help." "I played with Mason growing up, so I got a good relationship with him," said first baseman Jacob Walsh. "I'm excited to see him this year. Justin, we've been getting close. I've been talking with him a lot. He's been in my hitting group, so excited to see him go. And Heard, he's a stud, he frickin mashes the baseball, so I'm super excited to see him."

I don't see any upsets there...do you? On other sites--they claim UCLA, but winning in SLC is HARD, and I don't think the Bruins have the cajones yet.

Yikes! Huskies Lose Another Starter to Injury...
Charles Fischer posted a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You know, I want to beat teams at their best. (That is the angel on one shoulder) But on the other shoulder is a distasteful character who just wants-to-beat-the-damn-Huskies any way he can... Regardless--an offensive line that had injury issues, and is light on depth now has these issues to contend with. "I never said I was noble." -
Uniform Combination vs Colorado

So...with Colorado--we are going to have a lot of black on the field? Dumb choice of colors, IMHO. Save that primary black outfit for USC... Turnover Baby! -

Defensively, Ducks Becoming a Threat!

Lanning went out to solve it and got four experienced savvy DBs from the portal. So needed when you are going up against Penix, Williams, Rising.... The big surprise? Jahlil Florence was starting in the Hawaii game! Starting over Bridges, Manning, Reed, etc. That means he has really come on strong--the depth at that position is now astounding and NEEDED. -

I politely disagree with all; Lanning has already shown--as Nick Aliotti and Jim Leavitt would--that he will mix up his defenses and occasionally throw in a three-man-rush while dropping eight into coverage. I've noted it several times already this year and I even had a name for it a decade ago... Oregon Ducks Football: 5 Keys to Beating Colorado
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You know...I believe the vibe of this team is different. Last year--being efficient on offense and running ball control was key, and it worked. But this year? I think the rapid style of scoring might be the new image of the team? Where we score 45 points a game, and put the pressure on the other team and thus create turnovers from them. Because we will probably be doing our scoring through the air--our TOP will be low. So...like the CK days--get a quick lead and force the other team into a passing game for catch-up. Then we blitz, get picks and let it snowball... We have not played that way in a decade, but the talent on this team for scoring and on defense may fit? -
I heard that the Buffs started a freshman center last week, but that is not the case at the moment. The starter is a sophomore, and at 290 pounds is standard size; still though, I expect Popo to be highly disruptive. But good gosh....look at all the seniors, juniors and graduate transfers starting! You could make a case that they have a more experienced starting line-up than Oregon does! The major elements on both teams? I believe our defensive backs will do a good job slowing down the passing attack of the Buffaloes. And I believe our defensive line will really mess up an offensive line of Colorado that has already given up a ton of sacks. Still though....with that much experience starting--Colorado presents quite the challenge? 2023 Colorado Buffaloes Football Depth Chart | Ourlads.com WWW.OURLADS.COM The most accurate, up to date College Football Depth Charts and Rosters on the net.

Bryce Boettcher - Another Eugene Product & Surprise
Charles Fischer replied to Mic's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
And you can tell how he relishes the combat....the hitting. The portal recruiting of defensive backs allowed two safeties in Boettcher and Jamal Hill to move to MONEY linebacker and these moves have been a spectacular success already. Hill forced a fumble versus Texas Tech, and has been in on many QB hurries, while Boettcher has a sack, some TFLs and great pursuit? I did NOT see these moves coming by Lanning and Lupoi, and they should be commended for the moves. -

Should Oregon Play to its Passing Attack Strengths?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I've been pondering about that. Maybe this was the plan? We know we're going to be in shoot-outs this season, so Dano goes out and gets two BIG playmaking receivers, and a boatload of defensive backs from the portal to try to hold down the other teams in the conference? -
Oregon Has an INSANE Backup Quarterback...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That, and I was highly impressed with many of those throws in the first three minutes of that video. He can ropes-on-a-line, and he can throw sweet lofters that drop into the receiver...as a high schooler. The talent is there. -
