Media Rights: 'Uncomfortable Truths About the Pac-12'
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If George wants to retain Oregon and Washington...he has to get great revenue going, period. To me, the Streaming package could make-or-break the future of the conference in both how much money is paid to the conference, and to the amount of content. Having sports other than football and basketball (non-revenue) on streaming only? Isn't that a way to kill those sports for viewership? They already get very few eyeballs, and now people have to pay for streaming to see a Track meet? Football needs to be on streaming as well, IMHO. -
No. 5 Recruiting Class for Diamond Ducks - I'm Juiced!
Charles Fischer replied to ICamel's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
For Oregon Baseball Fans... Oregon recruited the No. 1 and No. 2 pitchers on Team Canada, and the No. 1 guy can throw up to 97 mph. There is some hitter at 6'5" who apparently was hitting fastballs over the Scoreboard? Whew! When asked about the 20 new players between freshmen and transfers, Coach Waz appeared to be in a catbird seat as he said "It is fun to watch!" That sounds like a coach who is pretty pleased with the talent he has recruited. Fun to watch for! One of Oregon's best all-time players, Tanner Smith, has decided to return! -
The Oregon-Dillingham Offense: The New Arc Zone Read

In the screenshot below, you can see that at the instant of decision in the mesh, (light blue circle) the "read-key" defender is sitting, (red arrow) and thus the correct call is to hand off, as Coach Boles referred to. Perhaps if it is second and two--you could pull and see what happens. The TD in the picture in my post above--I thought Nix got a "give" read, but pulled it anyway. Interesting stuff! -
The Oregon-Dillingham Offense: The New Arc Zone Read
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yep. I got a lot of that when I made my videos of the Chip Kelly offense, in fact I heard about it nearly every day for a year when I put them out. Those questioning my loyalty for "giving away Oregon's secrets" really tested my tolerance for my fellow fans. The way I answered is true now as it was then, and it takes all of 15 seconds of thought.... "Let's get this right; the opposing coaches all have film of Oregon's games and they know what we are doing. All the FishDuck videos come from public sources that everybody has access to...and obviously our own coaches know what they are doing. So the only people who don't know what's going on are the people actually paying the freight for the players and the coaches...the fans?" We try to change that at FishDuck for the fans, since all the coaches know what is going on. (Trust me, we will not be teaching college coaches anything!) Coach Boles...this will be great fun to watch for, because when the QB pulls the ball--he will have a better chance of making yardage on the perimeter, the backside of the defense. Perfect for Bo Nix! Thanks Coach. -
There is new information about the media rights negotiations, factors that Oregon fans will want to know, and Canzano has done an excellent job bringing them to us. (Good and bad) Canzano: Amazon's NFL win creates moment of truth for Pac-12 WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Will the Pac-12 strike a deal? In particular, look at the "Leverage Issue" section of this article. When asked about passing along the wonderful things in the press to his offensive linemen, former Oregon Offensive Line Coach Neal Zoumboukos used to say, "we don't give them any sugar."

We have three objectives with the 'Feed: 1) Provide the one place that is free to everyone to get the news/articles about Oregon Sports, and 2) we are not bringing them all to you, as there is massive redundancy among all the sites. We curate the best of each Duck topic and bring them to you, in addition to the major news that all Oregon fans should be informed of. The final one, 3) We are bringing the tasty topics and tweets that can copied and brought to the main forum area for discussion with this wonderful community. We will restrict the number of articles to the FishDuck Feed to under 50, thus it may be 40-something, or the Focused Forty articles and tweets to be aware of for each day. Remember that up near the logo is "Repository" and clicking on that brings up a menu and at the top is the Oregon Depth Chart. Always there! Below is what ChileDuck wrote: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On to Game 4 and Washington State. The Chile Duck Depth Chart is up-to-date and with three games in the books, the starting positions have become easier to set even without having depth charts being published in the game notes this year. As usual though, the depth chart positions are probably not entirely accurate but the chart can be used as an organized way of viewing the depth of the entire roster by positions. A new punter was added to the roster, Lachlan Bruce, an Australian who transferred from City College of San Francisco. bit.ly/DuckDepthChart ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now I will disagree with where he placed players. Sewell is the "Mac" or a Mike, (Middle linebacker) while Justin Flowe, and Jeffery Bassa are "Money" ILBs. Jackson LaDuke backs up Sewell at Mac, and is not at the Money spot. The OLB is the "Jack" in the Dan Lanning defense, and it is hard to believe that Mase Funa is the starter. The listing he has as "Nickel" is what Lupoi/Lanning call the "Star" defender. But the players are all listed and we can go from there as it is handy.

As written twice before...here and here, we have had three violations recently concerning the mention of religion here, and in the past year we had some terrible things written about the faith of many of my Mormon friends right here on the OBD forum. I don't want this to go sideways, of which it can easily...so I am locking it.

KD to HC Much Too Soon....Right?

I agree with this, as your coaching record gets trashed in a situation like this in rebuilding. And I truly believe it is too soon for Dilly... -
The Declaration of the Pac-12’s Demise is Premature
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Good article, and I agree with your surprise and delight of a much stronger than projected PAC-12. Very surprised at having four ranked teams, and quite surprised at the strength of USC, and in particular, Washington. I thought it would take a year or two for them to look as good as they are now. It pains me to say that the damn Huskies have really helped the conference profile. Thanks David! -

Is The Ducks’ DLine / Lack of Sacks a Concern?
Charles Fischer replied to cartm25's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
In my study of the Georgia defense of last year and before thus far....Oregon has done almost nothing yet in the way of exotic or even basic blitzes. Lanning/Lupoi have done a ton of "simulated pressures" where we are playing it safe in the secondary with seven defenders back on pass coverage and only sending four to rush. This has occurred even on third and long at times, and we have applied some pressure because the offensive line doesn't know which four of the seven defenders near the LOS is rushing. IMHO, I think the players have too much to learn/experience yet, and Lanning is taking it slow with them. Another take is: Georgia surprised us and we were on our heels all day, and add the quick passes to the perimeter--not much opportunity for pressure. EWU was not going to seriously challenge us, hence no reason to leave basic alignments. I think our coaching staff was focused on stopping the big brutes on the BYU offensive line, and all the talk about them being more physical might have raised quite serious concerns. Since BYU was short their two best WRs, then it made sense to stop their running game, and make them try to outscore you through the air with inexperienced receivers. I think that was a good game plan, hence another view as to why we have not seen much in blitz/pressure packages. But I believe we will over the course of the season. My analysis about "setting the edge" turned out to be very timely, as there were superb examples of it throughout the game of Oregon doing well setting the edge, or blocking the BYU edge wonderfully. Hope that helps, but it is simply my guess as... -
Recruit Along with Family Leaves Game at Halftime
Charles Fischer replied to DuckIt's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yep, old news. This was reported and discussed here two and a half days ago on Sunday morning, and we locked the thread because it could go sideways...as I will do here. We all feel bad about it, and again--this can go the wrong direction easily. Your heart was in the right place in posting it, but again--old news. Meanwhile this below is new to report, the gratitude to Oregon apologies and was in today's FishDuck Feed.... BYU, 'grateful for those who are willing to come together,' thanks Oregon for its apology after anti-Mormon chants at football game WWW.ESPN.COM In the wake of anti-Mormon chants coming during Oregon's 41-20 win over BYU Saturday, BYU issued a statement Monday thanking Oregon for its "sincere apology" and adding that "this isolated... -

Normally you are passing more often, and for more yardage to receive these awards, but it was the total package of game performance. Good for him! EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has received a quartet of weekly honors for his performance in the Ducks’ 41-20 win over No. 12 BYU on Saturday. Nix was named the Rose Bowl Pac-12 player of the week, the Maxwell Award player of the week, and the Reese’s Senior Bowl offensive player of the week. The senior was also selected to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list as one of the nation’s top eight quarterbacks for the week. Nix was stellar in Oregon’s win, completing 13-of-18 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a career-high three scores. It was the second straight game with five total touchdowns for Nix, and his first career game with multiple touchdowns both rushing and passing. The Pinson, Ala., native became the first Oregon quarterback to throw two touchdowns and rush for three in a game since Marcus Mariota on Dec. 5, 2014. Nix is also the first Duck QB to rush for three scores in a game since Justin Herbert on Sept. 14, 2019. Nix and the No. 15 Ducks (2-1) will travel to Pullman, Wash., this week to kick off Pac-12 Conference play against Washington State (3-0) at 1 P.M. PT Saturday on FOX.

I think you make an excellent point. I was there in Autzen 34 years ago in 1988, when Bill Musgrave tried to take on an Arizona State linebacker to make the first down just as Bo did versus two defenders on Saturday. Oregon was 6-1 at that point and was looking to truly break through that year, but Bill got his collarbone broken on the play and we lost that game 21-20, and all the remaining games to limp to a 6-6 record. So I think some plays are just not worth the risk for the reward, and I agree with your concerns. That is a beautiful rich color of green, and I always loved those uniforms.

The improvement has been impressive, but can he do it when it is a passing-game shootout? There will be games like that in our future, and some might question if all the receivers can step up. But I think enough can....

Oregon/Auburn Trade. Who Got the Better Deal?
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Frankly, we could use DJ James at corner right now, even though he does not have huge speed and would be picked on now anyway. I am surprised that Manning hasn't won the spot... -
Hello my FishDuck Friends, To summarize, we are experimenting with changes to see what works, what does not and what are the trade-offs that occur when we make a change? For example a "page" of posts to a thread used to be 25 until this morning when I changed it to 49 per page. Why? Because we are streamlining the FishDuck Feed to have only 40-some of the best articles available per day, the most important Oregon Sports News articles each day with a minimum of redundancy. The positive? Now only one page for the 'Feed, and faster to scroll through and check which articles you want to read. It is important for advertising purposes too, because advertising occurs only on the first page of a thread...no matter how long it is. It will now begin to fill in beyond 25 posts over the next week, and not having ads beyond the first page of 25 left a lot on the table. The negative? You will be scrolling more down the page. For members...you have a very cool feature that will take you back automatically to where you left off reading, thus scrolling won't be an issue if you are using the "Reading Marks" to the left of thread titles/headlines on the front page of the forum. How do you use the "Reading Marks?" Easy, as quick directions are right here, and you will find this is the coolest feature of the forum! It is worth being a free member for that alone... Onward!

Fun, fun read--thanks Drex! And it goes to show that none of us thought that Georgia would obliterate us, and none of could foresee the progress of the team since then. That is why I roll-my-eyes when someone comes in and acts as a "final authority" on a topic, because we all are correct in our predictions only about half the time. I've been humbled so many times, so your Bo prediction is quite forgivable, since I felt the same way and the facts pointed that direction. But I want to see all those opinions, as I learn so much from everyone.

Here is How to Eliminate the Night Games FOREVER
Charles Fischer posted a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Again, astute businessman, HappyToBeADuck, gives us guidance as he wrote in a post in another thread about how if we went to "only-streaming." We could set our game times to compete with B1G and SEC games during the day, and allow our Duck fans in Portland to get home at a decent time...maybe even in daylight! If we were "streaming-only" we would have no interest about filling an evening slot and more people across the US, (and recruits) could watch us at convenient times. More people around the world could watch Oregon sports via streaming, and we would never have to play on a Friday night...unless we wanted to. And if we did--who cares who else is on TV? Now the new Canzano article posted hints that "streaming-only" is probably not the way the Pac-12 is going, but a combo approach between conventional TV and streaming. George wants everyone to be able to see games one way or another, and that is a fantastic start. As long as it generates enough revenue...??
