  1. This is a really great point because this team is so young--it will take a year for those leaders to emerge, IMHO.
  2. While most of the 2023 roster has been brought in by Lanning--the mind set and culture is still not built, or even close to what Georgia has, IMHO. It will take three years to fully replace the culture, and to create the west-coast version of the Bulldog defense, thus in that sense we have two years to go...to me. Yet you cannot blame or attribute things to the prior coach at some point. So there are really two questions here; when is it Lanning's team, and when will it be built to his vision? I think it is Lanning's team now, but will not be fully developed to his vision until the end of 2024--between the culture built, and the young-guns on defense in his system long enough to be masters of it. Great topic Haywarduck! No mention of offense because I believe we have a "Miracle-Maker" as a new OC. More on that tomorrow, as you-know-who is working on a FishDuck article to be published in the early morning. (I know, a Shameless plug from a Shameless Beggar)
  3. This is so unique and special that I felt it should be featured on its own, as well as in the Softball Thread. CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Turns out Oregon’s 2-1 win over No. 19 Northwestern on Friday was merely the opening act. The 22nd ranked Ducks saw three different players hit a pair of home runs and Stevie Hansen won both ends of a doubleheader as Oregon defeated No. 3 Florida, 8-0, and No. 24 Missouri, 6-4, Saturday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. It was the first time on record that the Ducks (11-3) have defeated three different ranked opponents in a row. “We never doubted it at all coming in,” said Raegan Breedlove, who started and went five innings against Missouri. “We were prepared and ready to do it for each other.” How it Happened Game 1: Hansen was masterful in winning her sixth decision in a row by throwing a complete-game, one-hit shutout. She didn’t allow a hit until a two-out single in the sixth inning, and faced just two batters over the minimum. Neither runner advanced past first base. Hansen struck out one batter and did not walk any. The Duck offense jumped on Florida starter Elizabeth Hightower early. Hanna Delgado led the game off with a triple and scored on Allee Bunker’s two-run home run. KK Humphreys homered in the third inning to make it 3-0 Oregon. In the fifth inning, Delgado doubled and scored on Terra McGowan’s two-run shot that made it 5-0. The Ducks tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh. McGowan singled to score Kyla Morris from second and then Bunker followed with her second home run of the game. The third-ranked Gators (11-2) were the highest ranked team the Ducks have defeated since beating No. 1 UCLA, 3-1, on Feb. 28, 2021. How it Happened Game 2: Breedlove allowed just two runs in the top of the third inning, but the Ducks could only muster McGowan’s second home run of the day in the bottom of the third inning. The Tigers led 2-1 into the fifth and threatened to score more before Hansen relieved Breedlove and shut down the Tigers. After Alex Honnold led the fifth off with a single and went to second on a passed ball, Hansen was called in from the pen. She recorded the first out of the inning on a sacrifice bunt that moved Honnold to third. Hansen got Julia Crenshaw to foul out to Humphreys at first for the second out. The inning ended when Katie Chester flied out to Carlson in right. Humphreys led the bottom of the sixth off with a home run to tie the game at 2-2 and Vallery Wong followed with a pinch-hit home run that gave the Ducks the lead for good, 3-2. The Ducks then added some insurance runs in the sixth that would prove essential later in the game. Ariel Carlson singled and went to second on a passed ball. Paige Sinicki bunted for a base hit and Carlson moved to third. After an out. Kyla Morris hit a grounder to third, but the throw home to try to cut down Carlson was high and got away from the catcher as both Carlson and Sinicki scored on the play for a 5-2 lead. Bunker then singled through the left side to score Morris. The Ducks took a 6-2 lead to the seventh, but Missouri (11-4) would not go down quietly. Riley Frizell led off with a home run that made it 6-3 Oregon. Hansen got Maddie Gallagher to strike out for the first out of the inning, but then Megan Moll doubled. With runners on first and second following a walk, Jenna Laird singled to left to score Moll and cut Oregon’s lead to 6-4. Morgan Scott came on in relief and after walking Honnold to load the bases, struck out Crenshaw and retired Chester on a fly to right to earn her second save of the season. Noteworthy: Hansen (7-2) has won seven decisions in a row … The top of Oregon’s order – Delgado, McGowan, Bunker and Humphreys – went 13-for 31 with two doubles, six home runs and 11 RBI … Bunker had four hits on Saturday to move into a tie for fifth in UO career hits at 234 with Julie Cavanaugh (1998-91). Bunker had five RBI on Saturday – four against Florida – and has 10 RBI in her last four games … It was Oregon’s first win against Florida since Feb. 11, 2006 (7-2) … Overall, this was the first time the Ducks won three consecutive games vs. ranked teams since defeating No. 19 Kentucky twice and No. 8 Arizona in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Quotable: Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi “They’re making big-time plays for each other. They’re coming up clutch for each other, for Oregon softball.” Pitcher Raegan Breedlove “We all get so hyped for each other. We never had a doubt in our minds. Running out there is like the best feeling just getting excited for each other.” On Deck: Sunday’s final game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic against UC San Diego has been pushed back to 10 a.m. PT on Sunday.
  4. Good gosh...stunning facts, and while I am grateful for them and the truth...
  5. No, but why try to start something that could go an ugly direction? This is what I HATE about moderating, as people feel their need to stir the pot is more important than keeping the peace on the forum. NOBODY would want to deal with the crap I do every week. Just responding for a friend… 🙄
  6. Thank you Annie and EastBayDuckDad!
  7. First pitch is 2:05 PM today, with a double-header on Saturday! (Grabmann is the one who can throw up to 97 mph!)
  8. Even when it is not on TV....on your computer or phone.... Go to GoDucks.com, Go to the Schedule, Scroll down to the game, Click on "Watch," as it is the Pac-12 network Fantastic! Now enjoy one of the best hitting teams in the conference and some exciting new pitchers who only gave up a 1.32 ERA in their first four games? Whew!
  9. This is a great example of how wringing our hands at the demise of the conference, or Oregon, or all the negative seen on this forum is often just premature drama. We cannot foresee the unfolding developments, both good and bad, and no need to mourn the loss of something until it actually happens. Or not...
  10. This has been a fantastic thread for perspectives and information provided....and your research and observation adds so much to the discussion. But some humor thrown in as you did--makes that it even more enjoyable. No Nachos please...
  11. Having Logan Mercado, (below) and the six other fabulous freshmen pitchers in relief is awesome!
  12. Gosh I hate what is going on. Since the media contract for the B1G is rumored to be in the 70M+ range in a few years--it would behoove Oregon to consider taking less...like 40 million from the B1G for five years, and then move up to actual value. It would be more than what the Pac-12 could pay, and would position the Ducks in one of the SuperConferences. Yet the way it will feel--stepping through that doorway forever and playing back east in all sports....
  13. It's getting near closing time, and there aren't many options left...and in the darkness....Charles...
  14. Duckman1 posted this below in another thread (thank you!) and I am combining them. Apple emerges as potential landing spot for Pac-12 football NYPOST.COM Apple TV+ is emerging as a potential landing spot for the Pac-12 college football rights, The Post has learned.
  15. From the Eugene Register-Guard this morning: Former Oregon football player Traeshon Holden will not face charges stemming from his arrest last week. Holden was dismissed from the team after he was arrested Wednesday on charges of alleged unlawful use of a weapon, coercion and menacing. The first two charges are felonies and the third is a misdemeanor. Lane County District Attorney Patricia Perlow wrote in an email Monday morning that after further review, “The evidence does not support charging Mr. Holden with any crime.” Eugene Police responded to a fight outside of an apartment at Gordon Lofts in downtown Eugene just after midnight Wednesday. Police said Holden had a firearm and threatened to shoot after one of two bystanders intervened in the fight. Holden was arrested without incident and officers located a handgun inside the apartment. "Traeshon Holden did nothing wrong," his attorney, Jacob Houze, wrote in emailed statement. "The Lane County District Attorney’s thorough review of the evidence has confirmed that. Now that he has been exonerated, he deserves to have his good name back." My comment: We do not know the circumstances of what occurred; was the player feeling threatened, and the handgun threat was for protection? We don't know, so we hope Lanning makes a good choice.
  16. Excellent summary Alex, and I like how tactful you were with the play-calling involving QB runs. We gotta be smarter, especially when we have an entire playbook that features other great players on offense.
  17. The purpose of the game is to break the 0-0 tie the teams are in, thus I would not want "ties" to return to college football.
  18. EUGENE, Ore. – After leading Oregon to a four-game series sweep of Xavier, Josiah Cromwick has been named one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week. Cromwick (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS) is just the third Ducks’ hitter all time to earn a Collegiate Baseball Hitter of the Week honor. He accounted for much of Oregon’s offense in the three games he caught over the weekend. He slashed batted .444 (4-of-9) with three home runs, a double, six RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base while reaching base at a .500 clip and slugging an impressive 1.556. After doubling in Friday’s 3-2 win, Cromwick hit a pair of home runs and matched a career-high with five RBI in Oregon’s 9-2 (7-inning) win in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. Cromwick put the Ducks on top in the first inning with a 3-run blast before adding a 2-run homer in the third. After sitting out the second game of the doubleheader, Cromwick returned to the lineup for Sunday’s finale and hit his third home run of the series. With Oregon trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Cromwick led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game. Oregon would add two runs in the eighth to clinch a series sweep. All-Time Collegiate Baseball Players of the Week Josiah Cromwick (2/20/23) Brett Walker (4/5/21) Kenyon Yovan (3/8/21) Spencer Steer (4/15/19) Kenyon Yovan (4/30/18) Parker Kelly (3/12/18) David Peterson (5/1/17) David Peterson (3/13/17) David Peterson (3/7/17) Cole Irvin (5/2/16) David Peterson (3/6/16) Shaun Chase (5/5/14)
  19. I have enough on my plate. If those who are retired can take the time to research it and get the information to GK--that would be best. It's not a good fit....
  20. The solution? Watch the Softball team at 8-2 right now, or the Baseball team who started 4-0 this weekend. Some great talent that is well coached...
  21. Well, I can make a prediction that has high probability; it will be both TV and streaming, and the amount will be not only come up short, but far behind what the SEC and B1G will pay their schools--especially four years from now.
  22. Outstanding post--so much that I believe will play out as the truth.
  23. Those numbers are pretty damning to our conference, yet Dan Lanning pulled in the second best recruiting class ever among high schoolers in the entire 100+ history of Oregon football. (He had the BEST of any first year HC at Oregon) Because of the Oregon brand you referred to--I think Lanning will get more than his fair share of top recruits, as we gradually become what Clemson used to be in the ACC.
