Opinion: Who Are You Most Excited About In The 2023 Class?
Charles Fischer replied to Haywarduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Jurrion Dickey... -
You will note in the second article about where this class ranks....that the No. 1 class by Cristobal was done after he had been here three years, with time to build relationships with recruits. The No. 2 class by Lanning was done after only one full year on the job. To equate things with Cristobal--the No. 3 class or Cristobal's 2019 class (No. 3) would be a first-year-HC-to-first-year-HC proper comparison, and Lanning wins for a first year coach as I reported before. I believe in three years--Lanning will break the recruiting record. But more important--he will develop that talent better IMHO.

Live Updates: Nyckoles Harbor to South Carolina
Charles Fischer replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think Duce is waiting out to see what his projections for being selected in the MLB Draft. It high enough--he'll play Baseball. If not, he'll circle back to who is still interested for football and has room. (IMHO) -
National team rank, and then the number of 4/5-Stars on Rivals. Oregon No. 8 with 16 of the 4/5-Star players. USC No. 11 with 10 Utah No. 19 with 8 Colorado No. 27 with 4 Washington No. 28 with 5 Arizona No. 39 with 3 Stanford No. 44 with 5 UCLA No. 46 with 4 ASU No. 51 with 1 OSU No. 55 with 1 WSU No. 61 with 0 Cal No. 91 with 0 My observations? --Pretty poor recruiting as a conference, as the majority of the best players are bunched at the top. --This is the best that I've seen Utah do, as 8 is my minimum benchmark for a "good" year. --Colorado is fourth? --Incredible coaching at Oregon State, as they are not piling up the 4/5-Stars yet. --It is only a matter of time before Oregon pulls away from the conference with superior talent. (Especially when USC leaves) --To think we could have had Justin Wilcox recruiting for Oregon!

USC Fans Are....a Little Salty Over Pleasant
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Before you get too indignant, USC fans... Beat Tulane and Get Back to Me -
I never said I was noble.... "You CANNOT have years where Oregon has more top 10 California commits than USC. Just cant happen. The elite guys in Cali and the elite guys in the Pac-12 footprint have to ours if we want them at a disproportionate rate. Does not have to be perfect, because it never is, but if there is an elite top 300 prospect in the Pac-12 footprint and USC wants him, they gotta be converting that to the tune of at least 75-80%---- if we legit wanna be challenging for national titles." "If not, we will be a version of what Oklahoma was under Riley in the Pac-12/Big 12." "They still manage to steal Pleasant from us! This is getting ridiculous!!!" "They aren’t winning recruiting battles just because of NIL." "They have better recruiters. Recruits like the flashy uniforms and facilities. They also weren’t the laughing stock of CFB for the last decade." "I'm no mathematician, but I'm pretty sure that Pleasant, Matayo, Austin, Conerly, Florence are more than "ONE" guy." "Idk Pleasant is a pretty big deal imo. 10.14 track guy at CB, but more importantly, Serra is usually an SC pipeline. Not pearl clutching, but I also think it kinda is a significant loss." "USC is better than Oregon in every single aspect except for the big bag$$ to high schoolers. Once USC gets that ish together, these battles won’t even be close. Because essentially, that’s all Oregon really has to offer." "Anyone saying “it’s just one guy” and “no big deal” is missing the bigger picture here. USC is facing an existential crisis right now recruiting high schoolers. We might get fortunate on a few great players per class, but we are nowhere near the point of stacking positions required to be competitive nationally. This is a really bad loss and it can’t be defended." "We aren’t leading for anyone of note in the ‘24 class, our best recruit decommitted and Oregon is leading (Dylan Williams)." "Oregon got the top three defensive recruits in California this cycle, all of them from LA. This needs to get figured out asap." "The school is in Eugene, that's enough. Place is garbage, school is garbage." "Hate the Ducks." "Should kinda see it coming when it comes down to us and Oregon." "Why is Oregon getting more good players than USC after having a weaker year? Is Lanning the best recruiter in the nation and is simply better than Riley? Are their nil or collective or booster deals more lucrative at Oregon? We have a good class, but they are doing better at the high level. Riley has a much better long term track than Lanning. So why is Oregon better at recruiting high school players from a place that is really far away from most of the talent on the west coast and the nation in general?" Poor Trojans!

Quaaack! Pleasant Commits to Oregon!
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
"Recruiting me since I was a freshman." I believe that is the difference between the Pleasant/Harbor recruitments, as Oregon was in there late with Harbor--while South Carolina had been recruiting him for years. (Well, that and the girlfriend...) -
Not only did Dan Lanning beat Cristobal's record of 14 of the 4/5-Star players on Rivals, but smashed it by signing a total of 16, the third best class ever after only one year? The Ducks moved ahead of Clemson and Notre Dame and beat USC for the Pac-12 lead....thus far. (Duce Robinson yet) DuckSportsAuthority OREGON.RIVALS.COM The definitive source for all Oregon news.

Quaaack! Pleasant Commits to Oregon!
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
247 is reporting it as well. Greg Biggins of 247 offers this information... In a decision that went down the wire, Gardena (Calif.) Serra defensive backs Rodrick Pleasant just announced he’ll play his college ball for Oregon. Pleasant had a final five of Boston College, Cal, Oregon, UCLA and USC but it really came down to the Ducks and Trojans. Just how close was this race? We talked to Pleasant Tuesday and he was still wrestling with the decision. In fact, he didn’t lock it in until earlier this morning. So how did the Ducks pull this out? “I have a great relationship with the coaches and they really recruited me hard throughout this process,” Pleasant said. “I felt really connected with the staff and not just one or two coaches but everyone there. “I’ve known coach Meat (Demetrice Martin, DB coach) for a long time, that’s my guy right there. I used to run track against Cole (Demetrice Martin’s son) when we were young and he has been recruiting me since I was a freshman.” Pleasant said Dan Lanning, Tosh Lupoi and Rashad Wadood were all involved as well. “Coach Lanning is a great guy and whenever we talked, he always emphasized how much they want me,” Pleasant said. “They see me as a game changer and a player they want to get snaps not just on defense but offense and returning kicks." “I still remember my official visit there and how much Oregon opened my eyes. That was when I knew Oregon could be home for me. I loved the atmosphere and the fan support. Oregon really has everything you need to be successful and they put so much in to the athletes, that was big for me.” Pleasant is one of the nation’s top sprinters and will double sport for the Ducks. His 10.14-100m and 20.40-200m times are the fastest returning times in the country. Although track didn’t play as big a role in his decision as some have speculated, the Ducks prestigious program definitely didn’t hurt their chances here either. “Oregon is Track Town USA and they have the best facilities in the country,” Pleasant said. “At Oregon, they really encourage you to double sport and that was great. They love two sport athletes there and the football coaches were adamant about me doing both. "I met all the track coaches on my visit and I like them a lot. Academically, I was surprised that Oregon has a strong Business program too and that's what I plan to major in. When I looked at everything that was important to me, relationship with the coaches, playing time, comfort level on campus, academic fit, being a two-sport athlete, Oregon checked off every box for me." Pleasant plans to run track in the spring at Serra, which is why he waited until February to sign his letter of intent. “I’m not an early enrollee so I never felt an urgency to commit or sign early,” Pleasant said. “Plus this was a really hard decision and I needed all the time I could get. “I don’t know how some of these guys in the ’24 class have already decided. So much can happen between now and when you sign so I’m glad I waited and I’m comfortable that I made the best decision for me.” -
Live Updates: Nyckoles Harbor to South Carolina
Charles Fischer replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It is official: Harbor to South Carolina. It is frustrating, in that the new track facility should be pulling in precisely this type of player. Yet, we came in late in this recruiting, and it was quite the ride and fun. Bottom line? Both players today are not essential in this class; what was FAR more important were the two portal offensive linemen signed for next year. They will be in every offensive play. Tough one to take... -
