  1. Brooke Yanez got the win again and freshman Hanna Delgado had a key two-RBI hit to create the winning cushion. A recap to come along with a second game against Boise State... Delgado is about to get her hit to score the runner from second....
  2. Well, you can follow that logic, but it is not what I wrote. I have written several times recently (like yesterday) that I like everything MC does except running the offense. You want to take me down a bunch of rabbit-holes until you can score a victory, and I will decline. All of what you wrote in the quote above does not represent my views and should not be projected on me or anyone unless they actually wrote it. (That is a "Straw-Man" Strategy) My view is simple and a ton of people agree with it; he said when he came that he would not change the offense, but get tougher in the trenches. That has not turned out to be true; our scoring has declined in the last three years, our rushing attack has declined over three years and whether or not we are tougher is debatable. Scoring more points makes it easier on the defense....especially when they had a tough year like last year. But we will disagree and that is fine. You are a great fan and superb contributor here, and it is great that we can have a robust discussion without resorting to "Pistols at Dawn!"
  3. If you are going to watch this team...you better load up on the antacids for the ride. Yesterday the team rallied in the 9th inning, while the first game today they were down 4-0 until a rally in the 8th inning with a final winning run in the 9th. Kolby Somers, (the pride of Hillsboro) closed out the game again while Rio Britton (a reliever to starter Cullen Kafka) got the win. Aaron Zavala (the pride of Salem) got two hits while Kenyon Yovan began flexing his muscles with a home run and four RBIs! (The pride of Beaverton!) I would love to see the bats warm-up sooner, but I'll take the win!
  4. No he does not IMHO. He rejected the offense that scored 43 points a game for nine years and replaced it with one that underperformed at 38 points per game in 2018 and 2019, especially with one of the nations best quarterback at the helm. He wants to do anything except what worked before and has been floundering about on offense since he took over. An average of 31 points per game last year was disgraceful, and yes, other teams such as ASU dealt with COVID too. I do not believe he would run an explosive offense....even if he had the players, and we will see proof one direction or the other in the next couple of years.
  5. Sure, but now you are diverting from your original premise; you felt the offensive scheme of ball-control was fine, and I disagreed. Now you pivot to player quality, and I have no disagreement with that as I stated above. I do not believe that Cristobal would score the same number of points with the same players Alabama had, and it is because of different schemes, and that is my point. Did Arizona State have better players than Oregon? They scored 40.2 points per game average versus Oregon's 31.3....so if Oregon had more quality players...what is the difference? "Mario Cristobal has held the Oregon Offense down better than any defense since Auburn of 2010!" Duckpop22
  6. Yep, and the current top teams are also the highest scoring offenses now, and doing the most winning. They are not winning with ball-control because of the skill players creating so much scoring against them, hence they have to score in response. Alabama scored 45 points last year against Auburn and lost, and had to score over 50 points this year to win the SEC championship game. It is the trend, and we are stuck in a bygone era, IMHO. We do not have to run the previous Shotgun-Zone Read-Spread Offense, (although the top teams are) but we need to score more if we want to win the big prize.
  7. Holy Toledo! Talk about a lot of smoke...there might be some fire there! When the biggies at 247Sports such as Wilfong, Prehm and Wade all give positive updates of this 2022 QB's visit with his parents within a few minutes of each other? Now the Oregon Rivals AJ Jacobson too? Was there a silent verbal from Rivals 4-Star Alabama QB Tanner Bailey to the Oregon coaches during his recent visit? When that many recruiting tongues are wagging...you gotta wonder. Look at this offer list right here, (24 already!) which includes Michigan, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Alabama?
  8. Very cool ICamel, and thanks for finding and posting that.
  9. I wonder what is in Dante's head? Is he on the way out....or has he bought in too? HE is the missing piece to a Final Four with the way this team is progressing... Like losing Chris Boucher....
  10. Well, this is bad news and good news.... The bad news is that it is obvious to many is that Justin was not coached at Oregon as well as we hoped. Yet others have given very reasonable explanations, such as the quality of receivers at Oregon versus the NFL. We did not have anyone after Dillon Mitchell that scared defensive coordinators, while one of Herbert's first NFL bomb TDs was to someone activated off the practice squad that week. NFL talent is that good. The good news? The Quarterback coach at that time for Herbert is no longer at Oregon, as he is the head coach at UNLV. (Marcus Arroyo) How is Joe Moorhead as a QB coach? (above when he was at Mississippi State) He has the track record, and he was a great college QB himself, but we will go by results and that is yet to be seen.
  11. The Ducks had it all going wrong with pitching giving up too much, and bats that were quiet until a big 7th inning where six runs were scored! Oregon stranded bases loaded at the top of the 9th...so it came down to the closer to finish it out....the pride of Hillsboro, Kolby Somers who finished the three outs in four batters. The win goes to pitcher Nico Tellache, (the pride of Canby) who followed starter Peyton Fuller. (The pride of Ashland) It was great to see Kenyon Yovan, (the pride of Beaverton) playing again and it was a good choice to play in sunny California considering the freezing rain in Eugene today. If you are wondering how far I am going to take this "pride of...." business, it is all-the-way-baby! I am proud that the Men of Oregon are working hard and winning!
  12. Right, a leader has yet to emerge. I don't believe that will be an issue next year, as the freshmen will be experienced and not reluctant. And so many of the other new players such as Sabally and Mikesell have not been on the floor with this team before. There are going to be years like this, and I can't complain as we pounded other teams in the prior couple of years. It is the time of the other conference teams now, and I think a couple of them will do well.
  13. You sir, are a GREAT DUCK FAN. If you're going to wear a purple sweater....
  14. I wanted him retained, as I do not see viable options out there that are truly better and yet available to Oregon. Yet our offense has declined under his leadership, and that began before 2020. Let's just say that 2021 is a "show-me" year for many of us. There is more to football than recruiting and being tougher, IMHO.
  15. I don't have a problem with players selling their image and making money from that, as that revenue source is minor compared to the entire budget coming from a full Autzen stadium. To me, it is a reasonable compromise to preserve the current system to retain all the scholarships available to Olympic sports, especially for women.
  16. "A generational talent." You will learn a ton about offensive linemen and technique to watch for from this video and do remember this footage is from 2019...when he was just a sophomore! It is like an ad to "come play offensive line at Oregon!"
  17. Really? Just where does all the money go? WHO is the owner? It is not the Athletic Director, as he is on salary and is paid from these proceeds as the entire athletic department is. It is not the coaches as they come and go and like the AD, are paid from the proceeds. Isn't the owner the university? Does all this money go to the university to build more departments? No. Where does the rest of the money go? It is used for the entire athletic department budget. Where does the "rest" of the money flow to? To fund all the scholarships and costs of 19 sports at Oregon. What about all the profit? There is NO PROFIT, and in fact much of the money now is coming from private donors, such as the raises to Coaches Cristobal and Kelly. This year it is estimated the AD has a 60 million dollar deficit, and yet the sports must still go on. All excess funds earned from Mens Football and Basketball goes to pay for all the other sports. That is why the star quarterback gets the same scholarship that a Womens Basketball player gets, (a sport that bleeds money) and no more. Football is the reason that we have a No. 20 Volleyball program, a No. 6 Softball program and a No. 1 Mens Indoor Track Team. It is the most equitable system out there, and is due to the laws in place. Show me a system that funds all those sports and helps all those students get degrees by the thousands across the US that is better than what we currently have. You cannot.
  18. Well....losing to a 5-5 Arizona State team is a lesson he did not learn, since he lost to Oregon State and Cal this year. This too, is preparing the team correctly and I do not know how many more of these it takes to learn from these losses. Losing to Auburn happens; losing to Iowa State is undesirable, but losing to those other three teams that you clearly are better than...is unacceptable.
  19. I have maintained for a long time that a great coach is beyond just rare ... because of all the components that it takes. How Dana recruits better than any basketball coach at Oregon before is still a mystery to me, yet how many salesmen (recruiters) can also do the Xs and Os, the in-game adjustments like a CPA? Darn few. Add to that--the best coaches are also superb managers of which is a very rare talent; the best are earning millions in corporate America. So the best coaches have all three components and there is only a few in each sport because they are a one-in-10-million-people type of guy. All the other coaches have their weaknesses that we have to live with, such as Cristobal being so good at everything except running an offense. We like everything else about them, and have to live with their faults as our spouses do with us... Hence Dana is rare....top 5% rare. If he had won several National Championships...then he would be in the Top 1%, and he may still do that. I do not know how he does it, only that I recognize how hard it is and appreciate that he has stayed to coach Our Beloved Ducks!
  20. I was wrong; the rivalry game is not on Black Friday as in the past. November 27th is on a Saturday....
  21. I am in agreement with that, as it is much harder to defend a balanced offense than a nearly all-pass offense.
  22. OK...I feel guilty now. I am not a Volleyball fan, but the Women are now No. 20 in the nation! And they have a pair of matches against No. 7 Washington this weekend today and Sunday at 1:00 PM.
  23. This is why I love this community; with all the talented people here--somebody can always summarize my feelings and write it better than I can, which I appreciate. Hayward....that sentence is PERFECT. Which is he....professional sports owner, coach or player?
  24. If you like reading articles about Justin Herbert, then you will love this one. A number of tidbits that are tasty including.....moving to the New Orleans offense? Whew! Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert, a Former 4.0 Student, Ready to Study Whole New Offense by USA Today “It’s just one of those things you have to move on past. Adversity is going to happen and you’re going to throw interceptions and incompletions. It’s all about the next play, next drive, next series, next game." (Is this is what Tyler Shough needed to learn?) Pictures of beating the Huskies NEVER gets old...
  25. In part of my effort to remove all politics from my life, (which is another reason why I stomp on it here so quickly) I now tune into a local sports radio station when driving, and of course they have a national radio show on. The discussion at this time of the year is NFL trades, or cuts, or bonuses or salary caps or who is a franchise player or how this team could have got such-and-such player for only 20 million. It makes me want to hurl. Now I admit I do not know the details of how teams fit the dollars and players together, and I also admit that I don't care. It is like the arcane scholarship math; you have to know the openings left from last year, the early entrants, the transfers and yet the upcoming developments that only the coaches know. You know....I don't want to hear that stuff. And yet many fans eat that stuff up. Do you?
