Poor Huskies, and Wowsa: These Did NOT Age Well...

This post that did not age well.... -
Since I am an admitted sicko who is a terrible loser, and even worse winner....I had to go over and see what the angry Beavers had to say. I think the delusion is now clearing from their eyes... -------------------------------------------- "I don't know a lot about football, but that Defensive Plan just looked absolutely inept." "Maybe someone who knows more about football can explain why we didn't stunt, shift or blitz against an O-line that was trying to "find its identity." (Their D Coordinator coached at Oregon, and was not exemplary for us.) "We’re a middle of the road MWC team right now." "We just got our doors blown off by a good team. It sucks. It means nothing. This was a loss we knew was coming. Let it all go. End the series. Immediately." "Keep in mind, that was also the most expensive roster in college football. We were basically the Oakland As against the late 90s Yankees." "That is why this series needs to end. Watching something I’ve loved my whole life get destroyed for no reason is brutal enough. Continuing to put your fans through that is unacceptable." "Offensive line did him 0 favors. They were pushing us like we were sled machines in the 2nd half. It was brutal." "The series must end. Everyone needs to email the President and AD. There is NOTHING to gain. We have a league, we’ll have media money. I’d rather fly up to Seattle or down to Stanford or UCLA for our one P4 OOC game when we get to 2026." "Reality smacked me in the face today. I thought this team could keep up with Oregon. Credit to the ducks for playing like the team everybody expected them to be preseason." "What's sad was that the talent gap is just so apparent. I saw 5 and 6 man pressures early on and we got NO penetration. I think they figured there was no reason to blitz and leave the back end exposed (pun intended) if we had no shot at getting home." "If we never played them again, I could not care less. I had hoped it’d be the same, but it’s not. It’s time to build more rivalries." "It is time to stop playing Oregon in any sport. It is hard to compete with Phil Knight buying any player he wants." "Maybe Oregon is just that good and we win all of our other games vs the P4, but that’s the first time in a bit where I saw our team and thought they were just flat out too weak and slow to compete." "The talent gap will only bigger over time." "I hope this finally convinces those people who say Stars don't matter. Well Stars do matter. At the tune of 49-14." "Why should we go to Oregon next year? Why should we play them anymore? They decided to leave for greener pastures. Uncle Phil is dropping millions to see his team fetch a title. They left us for dead. I really think there’s no reason to continue this rivalry. We were left for dead and they were the primary cause." "I don’t see the value in playing the game. If the Beavs are going to play a power conference team, I’d rather it be the LA schools or Bay Area. At least there’s recruiting benefits to those games. I also don’t see hole being willing to come to Corvallis in the future either." ----------------------------------------------------------------- (Good thing I never said I was noble)

Where are the Will Stein Boo-Birds?
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
So many of the game knee-jerk reactions do not age well, and they would be better served to wait until the game is over. Although the best example was last year, when Portland State scored early and gnashing of teeth here was pretty severe. At the end of a 81-7 game--they too, looked pretty silly. -
I did not think that experienced offensive linemen had deteriorated in the early games. Nor did I think our OC got stupid overnight as some suggested... It is quite evident he was holding back the playbook, as he popped quite a few surprises at Oregon State. Flawless blocking doesn't hurt either...

NFL GameDay Discussion, Scores & Updates
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Chargers are 2-0 with a 26-3 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Herbert only threw for 144 yards last week, and only 130 yards this week? Harbaugh likes to run the ball! Who knew? -
Holy Crap! My Replay Study So Far Shows...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well, I’m going to politely disagree. When they played Picard and Poncho…that told me they did not want to play Strother. They also indicated to me that they weren’t confident in Strother when they recruited Bedford, because we already had Harper returning at left guard where he had been most of his career. I do not think they had confidence in Strother, thus why they did not want to play him much, but I believe he has proven himself now. -

True, as we will have three experienced guards for two positions. A former weakness could turn into a strength! -
New AP Poll - Ducks Stay at No. 9 - Kind of A Crime!
Charles Fischer replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I am not worried, as we have a perfect schedule for proving ourselves, and moving up if we keep winning. -
Let's just say that I have plenty of content over the next two weeks before we play UCLA, but something I want to point out is how left guard No. 50 Nishad Strother, is blocking incredibly well. He is shielding/sealing the defenders inside superbly with left tackle Josh Conerly No. 76 on some plays, and with center No. 72 Poncho on others. I pointed this out in my analysis on Friday, and I am seeing more of it today. Matthew Bedford is not a shoo-in for starting when he returns, as I really like what I see of Strother's run-blocking thus far. More later...

Oregon Gets Right with Rout of Oregon State
Charles Fischer replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
And that would make sense with two more weeks to heal before the next game. I just confirmed that Harper was at right guard, and Strother was at left guard on Oregon's first offensive play. On the second play, an Inside Zone, James ran right behind the block Strother put on the linebacker for a nice gain. So many of the sportswriters out there are NOT as good as the All-Volunteer FishDuck Staff! -
Oregon Gets Right with Rout of Oregon State

I will be watching the game again today, but I believe that writer is wrong. I did not see Bedford even in the game, let alone start. I took inventory of the starters on the first series, and I thought I saw Conerly, Strother, Poncho, Harper and Cornelius...as we saw in the second half last week. I will check back later, as I have a lot to go over on the game for screenshots, analysis plays, and notes going forward. So many good things! No dropped ball this time... -
Jordan! This is a fun read, and my apologies for it not getting published until 9:00 AM. You completed and scheduled it for much earlier, but we had a tech glitch this morning that we just got solved. Not only is it great perspective you offer, but the pictures with all the vivid color in the background are epic. Orange is such a benign color to me now...

Yeah...it was me. The game score was 49-14, and Mr. FishDuck guessed 48-13 for only being two points off in total! This is my first victory in what...three years of doing this, and I get to place my prediction first? What is the saying about a blind-Duck finding something...? I really felt our offense would gradually get better, and it is beginning to happen. Fantastic second half by the defense, and I am not sure that a bye is a good thing at this time? This was an important confidence game, and another immediately would help to solidify it, IMHO. Congrats to DanLduck who came within five points with his 51-17 prediction, as we did not have that many as close this time. BTW...we pulled out a play today from the fabulous 2010 'Natty run, and it will be fun to review later!

So...How About THAT Get-Well Game?
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The offensive line that was primarily used in the second half last week, is what we started today and played with, thus much better consistency. Again, some great sealing blocks by Strother, superb kick-out blocks by our tackles, and it was cool to see Poncho flying across the field and toward a defender who had to pause to avoid getting smashed. Hence he could not tackle Limar on the screen TD! So many items to discuss, and truly a wonderful "Get-Well" game. Was that a perfect second half? Defense pitches a shut-out, and the offense scores 27? -

Time to finish the game thread and start discussing on the front page! -
So many things to say, and I must admit that so much of the gnashing of teeth by OBD members in the early part of the game on the GameDay thread was pretty funny in retrospect. I'm glad that they got the wide receivers going today as I hoped, and what are YOUR impressions?

GameDay Thread for Civil War: Join Us!
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
To me, the strategy for Oregon's defense in this game is simple. My belief is that our defensive backs can match-up with Beavers receivers, thus we can pack the box to stop their running game, and go one-on-one with their wide receivers. I do not think OSU will outscore us in that scenario... but do our coaches feel the same way?
