  1. You gotta admit…Oregon is a HOT portal transfer destination. Lanning has killed it in the portal, and the PLAYERS have benefited and he can point to that. Whew!
  2. It was bad enough when their 57% completion rate QB decided to leave,(DJ) and then their promising freshman (Chiles)...and it was suggested here that the Beavers could benefit from our Sloppy-Seconds and have Ty Thompson go to Corvallis? But one of the true young studs on defense for the Beavers has entered the portal, and guess where he is interested? Jermod McCoy Playing in all 12 games, McCoy was one of the Beavers' most impactful true freshmen as he provided great depth to the secondary and earned four starts on the season. He finished with 16 tackles, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions. (From Rivals) From ScoopDuck Oregon State defensive back Jermod McCoy has been one of the hottest prospects since entering the transfer portal. The 6-foot, 180-pounder not only has an offer from Oregon, he also claims offers from Washington, Utah, USC, Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Oklahoma and close to a dozen more. It’s clear he’s one of the most coveted players currently in the portal. McCoy confirms with ScoopDuck he will visit Oregon as a part of his recruitment. “I’ll be visiting Oregon Jan. 3-4,” McCoy told ScoopDuck. Although he didn’t want to dive deep into his recruitment and visits, McCoy mentioned why Oregon is getting a visit and has his interest. “I think the coaches can really develop me and they show a high want for me.”
  3. Finish off with the reasonable people among them...just like us at OBD? "Lanning is a defensive coach that has a tough team/culture and experiencing success on offense. Chip never had a tough team and their defense couldn’t be counted on to win games." "With all due respect Eugene is not as bad as you think. PAC 12 has a bit of disadvantage as far as TV exposure due to some of their prime time game is starting after 10 pm EST. Joining BIG increase their exposure and brand recognition to the rest of the country. Dan Lanning is a good recruiter and a better coach than Cristobal ( who beat OSU in Columbus few years ago). His only 2 loss is by 6 points by Washington. He will continue to recruit well and adding Gabriel will keep his momentum and Oregon maybe the top 3 team in the BIG." "In his 2nd year as a head coach? Give him time to be established as a west coast recruiter and solidify the culture. Anyone that doesn’t think Oregon will be a problem is in LaLa land, bud. What’s wrong with the B1G….horrible offenses. He’s immediately a top 3 contender in the B1G next year." "Last time they came in the Shoe (without Herbert) they won. Most Buckeye fans didn’t see that coming. Don’t sleep on em."
  4. Some tOSU fans are clearly NOT believers.... "They nearly beat Cam Newton and Auburn. Similar to Oregon almost beating Washington the first time. I don’t see a difference on defense from past Oregon to now." "Lets see how they do in the B1G playing physical football EVERY week, then you can crown them. I remember a NC game they thought they had won but could not handle the physicality of the B1G." "Funny how Oregon loses 3 games last year, 2 games this year - and people like the OP think they’re “building a monster” and the next Clemson dynasty." "Nike money will be filtered though the system in such a way as to not be traced back to Knight. With Oregon as a national program there will be no stopping him. There will be no player they cannot buy if they really want them. Can you imagine Oregon coaches telling a kid, “play for us and we will put you in a Nike commercial” The glitz the glamor. LOL." Like Ryan Day...Sour Grapes
  5. Back to the compliments... "I have told many of my friends that I predict Oregon to win the BIG next year. They have the talent and the dudes you need on both sides of the line." "Uncle Phil is why I didn’t want Ducks joining. Gonna be a B1G problem." "I think Oregon is definitely on the upswing. Lanning seems to be a dude and with Oregon's resource, geographical location, and moving on to the B1G his net will be even larger. He will dominate the left coast teams in recruiting California's skill positions and he’ll dip into the south for the trenches. It always boils down to quarterback play so if he can find someone as savvy as Nix then yes, they will be a perennial contender."
  6. More of the less-than-amused among Ohio State fans.... "I’ll believe that when I see it." "He’s the shiny new toy. I think he’s a good coach, but I don’t get why our board is slobbering over the guy." "Playing in the Pac12 is vastly different than playing in The Big10. Far better Defenses in The Big10 and a far more physical brand of Football in The Big10. No Team from the defunct Pac12 is gonna come in Here and run rough shot over us period." "Problem for them is Lanning isn't going to stay long. He'll be the next coach at an SEC school. Auburn, Bama, when Saban retires, Florida.. etc. He's a good coach. He knows what winning looks like." "Why because they got a decent transfer QB? I think we should pump brakes a bit. People thought the same thing when Helfrich took to the playoffs and then we shut them up real quick."
  7. Ruh-Roh! Some don't agree.... "Agree they have a solid program but haven't won anything of substance yet. Last I checked UW beat them twice this year and that genius Lanning cost them game 1 for sure with not so bright calls on several 4th downs. Lets see how they compete in new conference before anointing them a super power." "Chip Kelly part 2" "He loses to arch rival Washington and Kalen twice and is considered their future?.." "He has lost every big game he has coached in. If Day coached like he did vs. Washington, this board would have exploded." "What everyone forgets is going to Oregon is like getting drafted to Green Bay. You may win - but you are so far off the grid none of your family can get there. Its not a hot bed..."
  8. More nice thoughts... (Entertained yet?) "Oregon has always had all the resources to be an elite program, they just never had the right coach in charge. Now they have a guy who worked for both Saban and Kirby and won a national championship under both. Lanning was also the guy who recruited and coached that 2021 Georgia defense. We’ll see how they transition to the B1G but the way they are recruiting with the style of play he has implemented has them on a very good trajectory. Lanning looks to be an ace recruiter and is shaping up to be a hell of a football coach. Will be fun battling them moving forward." "Lanning is doing a good job. Picking up Gabriel will mean the Oregon offense doesn't miss a beat." "Oregon will be what everyone was expecting USC to be when realignment was announced. Lanning is building a really good program and stacking classes. They’ve been stacking the trenches on both sides of the ball since he got there." "I think he wins their first championship there, honestly. His aggressive mentality will shock the B1G like Urban did in 2012. I think guys like playing for him as well. Being in the B1G gives them a national stage that the PAC couldn’t."
  9. Well now...it seems Our Beloved Ducks have raised some eyebrows in Columbus. Below are some comments posted in one of their message boards/forums and let's first start with the good ones... "Oregon thoughts? Feels like they are building a monster with Lanning's SEC mentality with Nike money. Don't be shocked if they dominate the transfer portal (already go Gabriel watch out for Nolen). Recruiting at a much higher level than years past and doing it in the trenches. If Lanning stays I think they win a Natty. Watching them from afar it feels like early Dabo at Clemson days." "In five years, Oregon will be the most dominant college football program in the country. Joining the Big Ten gets them coast to coast exposure and recruiting with a billionaire financer." "He's building Georgia of the Northwest."
  10. Oh man....I saw the title of the article and just GROANED. We have discussed this at length already, and there are a few that have almost made this topic their hill to die on. Did Ty get a fair chance? How do I know? I was not at the practices, in the meeting rooms, anywhere, and I do not think anyone here either can make that call. Not to mention how we do not have the QB coach knowledge of a Will Stein who played QB at D1 level, and has done a decent job coaching it. Can we view this from a different perspective? Let's look at it from a Risk-Reward ratio as if YOU were the head coach. What is your greater probability of success--going with Ty or Dillon? Put yourself in Dan Lanning's place for a moment... If, as HC you guess wrong? You are fried by us fans, and your job is on the line. My years as a wealth manager made me apply that concept of risk-reward to many aspects of my life. (Although I sure did not with creating these two sites considering work vs. reward, but that is an ancillary topic) If Ty has not shown overwhelmingly in practice that HE IS THE MAN, then as HC, you-gotta-do-what-you-gotta-do to make Oregon a contender for 2024. He has done that with Gabriel, and media glow from this transfer has the Ducks at the top of national conversations about next season already. Stein and Lanning have huge QB risks, and must have a high scoring offense...
  11. Great article, and I believe that Gabriel's completion rate will rise in the Stein offense--and with our offensive line in 2024.
  12. Yes. He played a ton the first four games, but did not always start. By sitting out after the fourth game, he retained his year of eligibility. So he decided to go somewhere for his last year where he can start. (Even if it is a dumpster fire)
  13. I have posted this many times, but Oregon has the 7th largest global audience in all of college football. A bigger audience than Alabama, Georgia, USC, and yeah--Auburn. This is why Oregon is coveted by all, and I predict our audience will grow significantly larger in the B1G. Where are the Oregon Ducks in study of largest college football fan bases? | Ducks Wire DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM The Ducks have one of the biggest fan bases in the nation. But where do they stack up among the most beloved teams in college football?
  14. So former Miami HC Manny Diaz was hired at fellow ACC school Duke? Oh, this will be fun... Manny Diaz Introduced as Duke’s Next Head Coach - Duke University GODUKE.COM Duke University formally announced Manny Diaz as the next head coach of the football program in a press conference at KD and Sarah Lynn Kennedy Field at Pascal Field House on Saturday...
  15. I fear the same as writer Don Marsh; it will have to get far worse before Rob Mullens acts. With the brutal Pac-12 season coming up?
  16. Overpaid relative to their value to their conference for DECADES, and now they want to steal 140 MILLION? These bugs need to be stomped.
  17. Yep. That is why you don't see me crying for many of the players. They are doing just fine, and the current mess is of their making...
  18. Nobody EVER gets in trouble for a different opinion on OBD. We want debate, and as long as you do not take shots at those who disagree with you-you're fine. The problems are with behavior, not content, and you have been great. But I get back to how grading a QB on wins, when the defense has a lot to say about the game results? I would say your analysis of game results as....
  19. There is a TON you did not address, and you ignored my post that had very pertinent points. No sweat, we disagree. I will have an article about WHAT the major reason was that made Oregon lose to Washington this year. And you won't see it at any other media source, IMHO.
  20. C'mon. Blame Nix? Really? Scoring 33 and 31 points is enough to win. How about defense hold the damn Huskies to 24 points? We win them ALL! The last game had our defense only make THREE stops all game. Is that Bo's fault? Incomplete analysis, IMHO.
  21. Ok. We have tons who say that and leave every year. I had a writer leave who had written over 100 articles for us--some fantastic former player interviews, and history articles. Why did he leave? He did not like how Helfrich and the coaching staff were treated when fired back in 2016, Legit gripes, but leaving as a Duck fan? ' Yep. And he wanted his name taken off all his articles. So I did, and he's never been back. And he is only ONE example, so if you or anyone leaves--I understand. We have had SO MANY leave over time for their own reasons. One told me recently that he did not like how Oregon fans were posting about the plight of OSU and WSU...so he is never posting again! I can't make this stuff up. And all of them want me to bend the rules, or how things are presented for their sensibilities. They don't say that, but the implied threat of leaving is evident. Got it. Do what you gotta do, and we will continue to follow Oregon sports here with whoever wants to. I will be an Oregon fan through all the changes no matter what. And the door at OBD forum...
  22. He has a very unique offense, similar to the our Chip Era, in that he could have a couple of uber-talents and surround them with developed 3-Star guys to make it work well. Our 2010 team and this Washington team has many such parallels, in my view. DeBoer can continue to have so-so high school recruiting classes, but if he gets a few receivers and a great QB from the portal? He is giving us fits again. That bastard is a damn good coach.
