  1. Michigan quarterbacks pushing each other in competition: 'Selfless pursuit of excellence' SPORTS.YAHOO.COM "We’re each other’s biggest hype men," said junior QB Alex Orji. "The thing about this QB battle is we all thrive off competition."
  2. Mike West, Spot On comment. But how can the reins be pulled in with Congress not interested in helping out and the NCAA is neutered by state and federal court court court decisions? A player's union negotiating with "management" and agreeing to a restraint on transfers will likely be upheld if union members can be figured out and 'management' is identified. I do not see this happening without players being deemed to be employees. NFL roster management is a piece of cake compared to CFB because of negotiations between management, the owners, and the pros who make up the union.
  3. Noon start Pacific on Pac-12 LA. USC spring game preview: Key storylines, players to watch SATURDAYTRADITION.COM USC has plenty of questions to answer this spring after going 8-5 in 2023.
  4. Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State made this list. The 10 defenses that could shape the College Football Playoff this season SATURDAYTRADITION.COM These are the defenses that will shape the College Football Playoff in 2024.
  5. 9 AM start for Left Coasters. Set the alarm clock, you do not want to miss this one. Longhorns on the road are -3.5. Michigan vs. Texas: Broadcast, kickoff time revealed for Week 2 matchup SATURDAYTRADITION.COM Michigan vs. Texas will be one of the elite early-season matchups in the 2024 season.
  6. The B1G's Saturday Tradition site agrees that Oregon could use a Safety. B1G transfer portal breakdown: 1 need for every B1G team in the spring transfer window SATURDAYTRADITION.COM The spring transfer window is officially open, and every Big Ten program is expected to be active in acquiring talent.
  7. With a 12-team playoff, a team playing for the title, even with a 1st-round bye, will likely be playing its 16th or 17th game of the season if it reaches the champ game on 1/20/25 in Atlanta. A deep roster with quality players backing up quality players and seeing playing time is essential for any team that wants to win a Natty. CFB is entering new territory regarding the number of games its champion and runner-up will have to play.

  9. Laughing Out Loud again over another far-out Zach Neel take. 4 SEC teams, 2 ACC, B1G, and B12, an independent and a G5 school that for the second year running does not play a Power opponent. The B1G will place 3 and possibly 4 teams in the playoff field. Based on the preseason rankings I don't see the B12 in particular with the SOS as a conference placing 2 teams in the field. Georgia and Ole Miss play one another. I don't see Ole Miss with fewer than 3 losses, including a loss at LSU. Texas? I'm not certain why Texas is getting all of the preseason love. 3 WRs who will be drafted in the 1st 2 rounds and 2 excellent RBs are gone as well as the interior of the Texas D line. Ewers is back at QB but the close wins in the B12 in 2023 will be losses in the SEC in 2024. Bama will still have a deep blue Blue Chip Roster but Saint Nick is no longer driving the sleigh. Bama plays UGA which I think will be a loss even in Tuscaloosa. I think Mizzou is overrated but a home game against Mizzou will not be a lay-up. And road games vs. Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma, and, don't laugh, Wisconsin will be challenging. Based on the 2024 SOS and notwithstanding a road game in Tuscaloosa, Mizzuo has a 10-2 schedule that could get it in the playoff. I think that Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, and USC will finish 10-2 or better, and Michigan playing Texas, USC, and Oregon in Ann Arbor also has a shot at 10-2 as does Iowa. The Hawkeyes will lose the game in Columbus but draw UW in Iowa City, play at UCLA, and miss Oregon, USC, Michigan, and Penn State. Iowa is on the road for 5 conference games but has 7 home games in all. In fairness to Zach, his stab in the Playoff's dark is as good as anyone's, including mine.
  10. New rules coming. Sideline to helmet communication and for some reason I can't fathom, a 2 minute warning. NCAA making several NFL-style rule changes for 2024 season WWW.YARDBARKER.COM The NCAA approved several NFL-style rule changes on Friday to be implemented for the 2024 college football season.
  11. Mullens should awake every morning and thank his lucky stars that Miami way overpaid to get Mario to leave town and that Justin Wilcox said, "No." Canzano tells it like his wallet so requires. It's double speak when it comes to the Pac-2 and he knows it. It is fun to poke the Beavers in the Canzano comment section.
  12. The NLRB will not stop until college athletes are deemed to be employees. I found it stunning that at the NLRB District level, the NLRB determined that Dartmouth basketball players who do not have athletic scholarships are employees of Dartmouth College. If this decision is sustained on appeal every D3 athlete could be found to be an employee. At what point would a college in the Ivy League or D3 say to heck with it, we offer no varsity sports? Students who want to play a sport can form clubs but there will be no financial assistance whatsoever from the college. Pay the Money Ball football and men's basketball players or revenue share with these players and the Title IX suits will be hot and heavy. The fact that non-revenue sports are just that will not matter in today's world. The NCAA is under attack by federal, and state legislative and regulatory bodies, and is the defendant in four antitrust suits that the NCAA tried to dismiss and in all cases was denied. The Fed X deal is just the start of public companies and Private Equity becoming involved with college sports. I do not think that we will have to wait for any P4 media deal to expire before we experience more change in college athletics. The B1G's media deal expires at the end of the 2029-30 athletic calendar; the first Power 4 deal to reach the end of the current contract(s.) In the meantime, I'm going to sit back and enjoy what we have today. No reason to be frustrated over things that I cannot control which is 99.99% of "things."
  13. I know that the NCAA has often voiced that "THIS", whatever "THIS" is from time to time poses an existential threat to college sports. IMO, and the opinion of many folks more invested in college sports than I am, the House case truly poses an existential threat. I'm afraid I have to disagree with the plaintiff's counsel's statement that there is plenty of money to cover the possible 4B dollars in damages from the Hosue case and that nonrevenue sports will not have to be eliminated, should the plaintiffs in the House case prevail. The lawyer's statement that athletic directors are paid $3.5M a year and that athletic programs are flush with cash is nonsense. I do agree that if this case is to be settled, it will have to be settled by the Power 4 conferences and more likely, the Power 2 conferences. The programs most affected by a House win. The majority of NCAA member institutions do not have a dog in this fight. For example, the Big Sky Conference and the conference Linfield plays in are not named defendants. Oregon will come out of 'whatever' just fine but many programs may have to make drastic changes to field varsity and not club sports. Meet the man responsible for bringing disorder to college athletics ... and who could shape its future SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Jeffrey Kessler is the lead attorney in what is shaping up to be the most revolutionary case in NCAA history. "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." Dick Butcher, Henry VI. (But please skip the retired lawyers.)
  14. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/arizona-state-big-12-massive-blow-qb-jaden-rashada-transfer-portal QB Sam Leavitt who transferred to ASU from Michigan State will likely start for Dilly.
  15. Arizona State QB Jaden Rashada enters transfer portal with Georgia reported as possible landing spot - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Rashada was the No. 44 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports UGA picked as the most likely landing spot.
  16. This writer says that: 'It's Miller Time." USC's Miller Moss waited patiently for his shot. Now he has it - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM The quarterback grew up dreaming of becoming the starter at USC. This fall, he might finally be QB1.
  17. 1951, Washington star running back Hugh McElhaney was being paid so much money to play ball at UW that he said: "I can't afford to graduate." From the earliest days of college sports, being paid to play and playing for more than one team was not an anomaly. Inside college football's long history with the unlimited transfer 'Wild West' THEATHLETIC.COM Everything is coming full circle in college football as the sport deals with changes in transfer rules and a new era.
  18. I wonder if Mari(O) misses Eugene? Mario Cristobal is being paid a preposterous amount for Miami's mediocrity FANSIDED.COM Mario Cristobal is getting paid how much?! While he had great success previously leading Oregon, it has gone to hell in a hand basket for him in Coral Gables fa
  19. Charles guy Michigan State DT Barrow is back in the portal. Book Him, Danno! https://athlonsports.com/college-football/simeon-barrow-jr-michigan-state-college-football-transfer-portal-second-time-this-season
  20. Jabba, I expect the U to go all in on Martinez. The Ohio State guy is good on paper but has close to no playing experience for tOSU.
  21. Although prior performance is not indicative of current results, THIS is odds on. 😁
  22. College Football News names the predicted starters at QB for B1G teams in 2024. 13 of the 18 starters (72.22%) are projected to be transfers. * = on Oregon's 2024 schedule TRANSFER QBs EXPECTED TO START: OREGON - Dillon Gabriel - Senior - Oklahoma - 2023 All B12 first-team QB. Stay healthy (knock wood) and Dillon will break Bo's record for starts by a college QB. With 16 or 17 games played to participate in the 2024 Playoff champ game, I expect Dante Moore (UCLA) will see the field. ILLINOIS * - Luke Altmeyer - Junior - Ole Miss - The Illini visit Autzen on 10/26; without The Galloping Ghost. INDIANA - Kurtis Rourke - Senior - Ohio U. - In addition to Rourke, new HC Curt Cignetti is bringing in 21 transfers, including 10 from his former school, James Madison. IOWA - Cade McNamara - Senior - Michigan - Hopefully, Altmeyer will stay healthy in 2024 and move the Hawkeyes O up from last place in the G5/P4. New OC Tim Lester replaces HC Ferentz's son. MARYLAND * - MJ Morris - Sophomore - NC State - Maryland, after an idle week, visits Autzen on 11/9, the week after Oregon plays Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Terrapins will be Oregon's 7th game without a break. Trap? MICHIGAN STATE * - Aden Chiles - Sophomore - Oregon State - Sparty Coach J Smith will be back on the Ducks visitor sideline on 10/5, the week before Brutus comes to town. Please Puddles, no looking ahead. MINNESOTA - Max Brosmer - Senior - New Hampshire. The Gophers went to Chip Kelly and Ryan Day's old stomping ground to bring in Brosmer who last season in FCS play threw for 3464 yards and 29 TDs. OHIO STATE * - Will Howard - Senior - Kansas State - Played the best of the Buckeyes QB in the spring game. 2nd team All-B12 QB in 2023, behind Dillon but ahead of Texas QB Ewers. The Buckeyes visit on 10/12 will be one of college football's 2024 games of the year. The first matchup of two and possibly three games between The Os in 2024-25. PURDUE * - Hudson Card - Senior - Texas - 10/19 The week after the Ohio State game, Oregon travels to W. Lafayette for its first trip to the Eastern time zone. Michigan, on 11/2, will be Oregon's only other trip to the Eastern time zone in 2024. Trap? RUTGERS - Athan Kaliakmanas - Junior - Minnesota - The 'Greek Rifle' fired blanks for The Gophers in 2023. Will the move East improve his play? In 2024, Rutgers misses Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and Penn State. Rutgers plays UCLA in NJ and USC in LA. UCLA * - Ethan Garbers - Senior - Washington - Oregon's first B1G game will be a trip to the Rose Bowl on 9/28 to play the Bruins. Hopefully, Oregon will also, after a 1st-round bye, play a second round of the Playoffs game in Pasadena on 1/1/25. USC - Jayden Maiava - Sophomore - UNLV - I believe Holiday Bowl hero Miller Moss will have an equal shot at being the Trojans starting QB. A bit surprising that the four West Coast B1G newbies will not play every season. In 2025, USC visits Eugene. WASHINGTON * - Will Rogers - Senior - Mississippi State - A terrific portal pickup by UW coach Jedd Fisch. But Will will miss throwing to UW's 2023 receiving corps. The Ducks after eight games straight, finally get a rest before UW visits on 11/30. https://collegefootballnews.com/college-football/big-ten-quarterback-depth-charts-top-transfers-projected-starters-for-every-team-2024 Depending on what happens with the spring transfer portal, the other five B1G starters will be homegrown.
  23. Solar, spot on regarding the upcoming draft but Oregon's roster was and is Blue Chip and UW's was and is not.
  24. The U has never won an ACC title. Talk about living in Yesterday. Miami is an AAU member school but also a private school with its football stadium 30 miles from campus. Orlando is a bigger media market than Miami. And Miami is not in the top 25 of teams with the most viewers. FSU is This Close to AAU membership. FSU earns the membership and is free of the ACC and FSU and AAU member North Carolina, the 9th most populated state with close to 11M residents, would after Notre Dame, likely be the two top candidates on the B1G's (Fox + Friends) expansion list.
