The B1G's New Commissioner
The B1G follows Pac-12 and B12 in hiring a person more for his media and marketing experience than college sports experience. Big Ten targets Tony Petitti as commissioner: League expected to hire former TV, MLB executive, per reports - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Petitti will replace Kevin Warren, who left to take over as president of the Chicago Bears in January Do we need any further proof that college sports, certainly football and basketball, have gone the way of the media? I have no idea whet-so-ever as to this gentlemen's interest in further B1G expansion.

An Offer From B1G in April Coming?
Thanks for the heads up. I think the conference survives and expands by at least 1 team before the next media go-round where the Pac should be perfectly positioned. The monkey wrench? If and when student-athletes are deemed to be employees. But even in this 'brave new world' I think Oregon survives and thrives. NIL-wise, Division Street should not be sold short, and many more folk will have availability to stream games than the 13M subscribers who had access to the Pac-12 Network.

College Football News Early Pac-12 Rankings
Good question but this season Utah has a more difficult confereacheule schedule having to play at SC and with an opening game vs Florida and a 2nd OOC P5 game at Baylor. And, will QB Rising be healthy?

An Offer From B1G in April Coming?
Interesting call on Silverman. Of course, the B1G in 2024 will be coast-to-coast. I do not see SC/UCLA wanting to recruit against Oregon and/or Washington as B1G members. And I don't see why Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, and other B1G teams voting to add teams that will often defeat these schools in football, take money away from these schools and increase west coast travel. SC/UCLA coming on board is the principal reason Ohio State paid UW $500,000.00 not to have to trip to Seattle in 2024.

Bo Nix for Heisman in 2023
Great take and I'd love to see a regular season and a champ game sweep to send Troy on its 'merry way' to re-match after thousands of years, the Spartans. The defense will be the Trojans' Trojan Horse. (Actually, I think the last time SC played MI ST it lost to Sparty in the Rose Bowl?) Dark Horses - UCLA - NO P5 teams out-of-conference with all OOC games played in the Rose Bowl - Easiest Pac-12 SOS Why this gift to another school-blowing town? Great work Merton Hanks. Why with computers and software in the world does Merton have a job? Has anyone seen football refs improving under Hanks' watch? Oregon State - No P5 teams OOC (game at SDSU could be tough) and #8 Pac-12 SOS.

College Football News Early Pac-12 Rankings
Pete Fiutak at College Football News has one of the best track records as a college football preseason prognosticator. He has ranked teams going into the 2023 season from 1 to 133. Pac-12 Rankings 8. USC - Strength of Pac-12 Schedule (SOS) Ranking - 1 being the most difficult - 10. 9. Washington - SOS - 4 13. Oregon - "The return of QB Bo Nix is huge, but the Ducks lose a ton from both sides, especially up front. The talent is there but it is young." SOS - 11 16. Utah - SOS - 7 18. Oregon State - SOS - 8 27. UCLA - SOS - 12 43. Washington State - 43 - SOS - 9 51. Arizona - 51 - SOS - 5 65. - ASU - SOS - 6 69. - Colorado - SOS - 1 70. - CAL - SOS - 2 78.. - Stanford - SOS - 3 Teams on the Pac-10 Expansion Radar - 55. Tulane 56. Fresno State 66. San Diego State 79. SMU 112. UNLV Oregon P5 out-of-conference opponent - 24. Texas Tech - "QB Tyler Shough is going to be huge leading the high-powered offense." Pete's Top 4 - 1. Georgia 2. Ohio State 3. Alabama 4. Michigan If we had a 12-team playoff in 2023 - 1. Georgia - SEC vs. 9. Washington - At Large (AL) at 8. LSU - AL 2. Ohio State - B1G vs. 10. Tennessee - AL at 7. An Offer From B1G in April Coming?
Reportedly Phillips, former AD at Northwestern is signing a 3-year extension to stay on as the ACC commissioner. In even more bending over to Notre Dame football, the ACC is dropping divisions but will remain at 8 conference games. Why? Because Notre Dame plays 4 to 6 games every season vs the SEC and Georgia Tech plays Georgia, FSU plays Florida, Clemson plays South Carolina and Louisville plays Kentucky. Hats off to FSU for playing both LSU and Florida in 2023. At this point in time, I see no additional B1G growth until the next media go-round. The B1G deal is locked in and FOX has kept ESPN out of LA. Also, the Pac-10 media rights deal looks like it will extend perhaps into June. I doubt the B1G is going to come after Oregon, UW, or any other Pac-12 teams before it knows the bidding floor for Pac-10 teams. And I do not think that many of the B1G presidents want to be responsible for the complete destruction of the Pacific conference. Also, Ohio State canceling out playing UW in Seattle in 2024 with a return game the following year in Columbus is telling in regards to B1G teams' desire to travel to the Left Coast.

Bo Nix for Heisman in 2023
Darren, if a tree falls in the forest ...? Great update on Who Knows if Bo can win the Heisman? But other than the game when USC trips to Autzen in November (and the game best kick off no later than 4:30 Pacific time) will enough eyeballs be on Bo to bring home the prize if Bo plays well enough to earn the reward? Interesting that you mentioned Derrick Henry. As David Shaw said Christenson deserved the award but far more people watched Henry play football in the Big, Bad SEC. How great is it that in 2023 4 Pac-12 QBs, Williams, Penix, Bo, and Rising are in ESPN's top 10 returning QB list? But as Charles cautions the Ducks will need to go 13-1 and win the conference title in a year that has 'cannibal' written all over it.

What Oregon Spends on Football Recruiting Compared to Other Big-Time Teams

Oregon's Sad and Bad Out-of-Conference (OOC) Scheduling
Thanks my friend but at 76 years of age I'm too worried about what happens beyond the games already scheduled. With SC/UCLA in the B1G fold Ohio State has already paid UW $500K not to play in Seattle next season. We should expect much of the same.

PAC-10 New Media Deal - Damn the Doubters and Take Heart
No advantage over ESPN with its ESPN+ streaming but a potential advantage over the B1G and B12 that do not have streaming as part of their new deals.

An Offer From B1G in April Coming?
Jon, appreciate and understand your reluctance in regard to this subject. But when it comes down to the numbers Oregon was the 7th most watched CFB team in the country last season And THIS was with 45% of the conference football games being "featured" on a network that few (13M subscribers) could watch. It's not like Oregon and the Pac-10 is moving from a terrific media deal to a questionable media deal. Today's media deal is not close to that of the B1G and the SEC and the new deal will not bridge the financial gap. Hopefully. the new deal will come close to the $31.6M a year B12 deal? Hopefully, streaming will take off. I have seen many the take that the ACC and the SEC Networks will both be streaming on ESPN+.

PAC-10 New Media Deal - Damn the Doubters and Take Heart
Thank you WK, but the only flour I am interested in comes in cookies and cakes that someone else bakes. This media rights negotiation has been in the oven for a long time but after a long gestation period, baby elephants come out cute and destined to grow into bigger things. Tom Petty: The waiting is the hardest part.

PAC-10 New Media Deal - Damn the Doubters and Take Heart
It is frustrating as an Oregon fan to suffer all the slings and arrows being aimed at the Pac-10 and its failure to complete as of yet, a new media deal. But let's not forget that 45% of the conference games last season were broadcast on the Pac-12 Network. A network with 13M subscribers and a network not available in many parts of the US of A. And the conference commissioner was stuck with this loser of a network and stuck with FOX leading the LA schools to the B1G. Stuck with being lied to by Kevin Warren, the B1G, Carol Folt, and drag-along UCLA. I do not see a streaming component or a partnership with CW and ION as being any less injurious to the conference as was Larry's Lousy Network. A streaming component while coming with risk means that it is coming with perhaps, a huge upside. I do not think any P5 commissioner has been dealt a tougher negotiating hand than George Kliavkoff. Trying to make chicken salad out of chicken spit is not easy.

Sources: Pac-12 TV Deal Expected Later This Spring or Summer
The dreaded affirmation of agreement. To think, we could have a Pac-20 with USC and maybe UCLA getting a bigger share of the revenue pie but SC's Carol Folt led the charge against expansion. It's every Spoiled Child for itself. As a Ducks fan, I wish I had standing to file suit.

Sources: Pac-12 TV Deal Expected Later This Spring or Summer
More bad news on the new media agreement up on Fansided and The Athletic today. I refuse to post any more of this negative stuff. What's the use? At this point, all of these negative takes are simply piling on. The absence of a deal after months of negotiation speaks for itself.
