  1. It's all about starting and NIL related. ME is no longer part of TEAM. Whatever happened to the love of teammates and competition? You don't start? Compete! Beat out the guy ahead of you. And if you are not talented enough to do so, support him and your team. Don't quit because a situation is injurious to your self-esteem. And coaches poaching other rosters today are in my opinion (fill in whatever expletive deleted you so desire.) And if you do not think roster-poaching is going on; well, the Easter Bunny just paid us a visit. Rumor has it that this caused the Tooth Fairy to enter the portal.
  2. Open the wallet? CU sold out its spring game at $10 a ticket. Cheap to see Prime Time. It is IMO too bad that CU has such a brutal schedule this season. Ranked #3 in the country as to difficulty.
  3. College Football News (CFN) has ranked the 133 P5/G5 SOS. Below are the by-conference rankings of the teams I believe are capable of winning a conference championship and finishing in the Final 4 the final season of a Final 4. To date, SOS has rarely come into play for the Playoff (PO) Committee. With four teams the formula has been easy: 2 strikes and you are out! In 2024 we will have a 12-team field with 6 at-large teams making the field along with the highest-ranked 6 conference champions. With the new format, I think SOS, as determined ad hoc by the PO Committee will be important when it comes to making the field and for seeding purposes. PAC-12 15 - UW 20 - Utah 29 - Oregon State 39 - USC 59 - Oregon 64 - UCLA I am surprised that Oregon State with no P5 out-of-conference (OOC) games is ranked 3rd in the Pac-12. UCLA also plays no P5 teams OOC. And for some reason, the conference gave the departing Bruins an easy conference slate. Thank you, Merton (Do Nothing?) Hanks. Also, I note that USC gets both Utah and UW in LA. With Oregon playing in Seattle and Salt Lake City and playing a preseason top-25-ranked Texas Tech in Lubbock, I think CFN has the Ducks' schedule rated far too low. ACC - 22 - Clemson 26 - Pitt 44 - FSU - Too low considering FSU opens against LSU? 56 - UNC 57 - Louisville 60 - Miami - Will this ranking allow for Mario to find 6 wins and go bowling? B1G - 1 - Purdue - Nice welcoming of a new head coach. 14 - Ohio State - Plays at Notre Dame and at Michigan. 49 - Wisconsin 61 - Michigan - 3 cream-puff OOC games all played in Ann Arbor 65 - Penn State - gets Michigan at home. Penn State plays at Ohio State. B12 - 13 - Texas Tech - here, Oregon appears to be getting props. 16 - Texas - playing at Alabama moves the SOS needle 48 - Oklahoma 52 - TCU - opens the season at home versus Prime Time SEC - 5 - Alabama 31 - LSU 51 - Tennessee 53 - Texas A+M 63 - Georgia - OOC Georgia plays 3 G5 teams and Georgia Tech. And by SEC standards the conference schedule is not difficult. 3-peat? OTHERS - 2 - Colorado - Thank you, Mister AD 3 - CAL - See, Colorado 42 - Notre Dame - Too low with games in South Bend versus Ohio State and USC and playing at Clemson? My guess? No Pac-12 team finishes the season with fewer than two losses. Final 4 - 1. Georgia 2. Michigan 3. Alabama 4. Penn State Yours?
  4. David's article was spot on. But if a spring game was played against another team it would be against an FCS or lower opponent and likely have a running clock in the 2nd half. Portland State is the perfect season-opening game. I'd like to see this every season; keep the FCS 'body bag' money in Oregon and get game time experience without a true risk of a loss.
  5. Great take, thank you, PA. In regard to one of the 2 Pac-12 titles? That was a COVID season fluke proved up by the beatdown administered by Iowa State in the Fiesta Bowl. It's still a conference championship which is nice but IMO it is a championship with an asterisk; especially when considering that Clay Helton was coaching USC. So happy Coach Terry is on board. A Demon Deacon with an important rebuild OL job in 2023.
  6. Coach Terry has a big-time job in 2023 rebuilding the Ducks O-Line. Not that one would expect differently, but he loves working for Dan Lanning. Dan Lanning is ‘a rocket’ taking Oregon to the top, says Ducks OL coach A’Lique Terry SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Dan Lanning has quickly impressed new Oregon offensive line coach A'Lique Terry with his determination to bring a championship to the Ducks. Hats off to former Duck and CAL coach Wilcox but I am happy he passed and DL took the job.
  7. Agree with Utah's Rice-Ecolls Stadium and the MUSS-Mighty Utah Student Section. The stadium sells out and is loud.
  8. Look at the number of players who signed on to a new team the day they entered the portal and try to argue that roster tampering is not happening. Latest on college football transfer portal windows: What's next? WWW.ESPN.COM College football coaches and personnel directors struggled to navigate the chaos of the first transfer portal window, and a solution isn't clear-cut.
  9. This time AI got it right. Pac-12 Football: ChatGPT ranks most intimidating stadiums to play in DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM We asked ChatGPT to rank the most intimidating places to play in the Pac-12. Here’s what it said: But about writing papers for students?
  10. AMEN! I am an old grey beard and I can see new tech, streaming, etc.' ultimately replacing linear TV. Streaming today is in the infancy of what we will see a decade from now. Everything will be AI voice commanded and controlled. Games will be available to be viewed 24/7 +. We are at the 'Jules Verne' stage of what was once called Television. And we are here today before quantum physics allows us to be at any place in the stadium while watching sports holographically. Taking a 'risk' on streaming today is IMO a well-calculated risk.
  11. Tandanian, I agree this will be a work in progress; especially, with the brutal schedule CU has in 2023. But it sure is nice to see a Pac-10 school opening the wallet and getting bolder in Boulder. My daughter attended CU before earning an MD from, sorry, UW. We saw some great games including the Hail Mary Kordell Stewart throw for the win in Ann Arbor and Saleem setting the CU rushing record against Iowa State in Boulder the year he won the Heisman. Under McCartney, CU had a recruiting pipeline into southern California. Will Prime be able to duplicate this? If so and with his name giving him a national recruiting cache and Boulder being a gorgeous place I think, if he stays at CU long enough, it's a matter of time before CU is very competitive in the Pac-10. Boulder fans have shown up through the thin; selling out the spring game is a great step in the potential return back to the thick.
  12. Great take ND. Plus, having Dillingham as the OC I think figured into his decision. Under Dilly, he arguably had his best season at Auburn. In regards to his return, I imagine Division Street and NIL figured into Bo's decision to return. Probably a million or so reasons why he should spend another season in Eugene. Interesting that even in last year's blow out loss the Ducks put up decent numbers on O against The Champs.
  13. Deion recruiting down south? 1 reason I'd like to see SDSU, UNLV, SMU, and TULANE added to the Pac-10.
  14. As noted in many articles the $ for sports broadcasting is drying up. At least on the linear side of things. How much is FOX, CBS, NBC, the B1G broadcast partners, willing to pay for additional west coast inventory with the LA market locked up? Apple has a deal with MLS. Amazon has a deal with the NFL. The Pac-10 via the relocated network brings broadcast facilities to all 10 teams. It's risky but IMO streaming half of the football + inventory is the way for the Pac-12 to go. Risk that could be significantly rewarded. And a streaming component, in addition to ESPN and FOX folding the wallet, is the hold up on getting a deal done. Yes, ESPN+ is out there but as an add-on; thus, GK is plowing new ground negotiating with high-tech companies new to the college scene. With a 12-team CFB playoff coming in 2024, likely IMO to expand to 16 teams in 2026, and with the NCAA CBB tournament likely to go to an 80-team field, competing on the west coast could well pay off better for Oregon than playing in the B1G? Playing without B1G travel demands.
  15. The B1G follows Pac-12 and B12 in hiring a person more for his media and marketing experience than college sports experience. Big Ten targets Tony Petitti as commissioner: League expected to hire former TV, MLB executive, per reports - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Petitti will replace Kevin Warren, who left to take over as president of the Chicago Bears in January Do we need any further proof that college sports, certainly football and basketball, have gone the way of the media? I have no idea whet-so-ever as to this gentlemen's interest in further B1G expansion.
  16. The CU Spring Game is sold out and will be broadcast by ESPN. Pretty good hire, eh? Deion Sanders meeting Ralphie is better than any spring game FANSIDED.COM Deion Sanders met Ralphie for the first time on Folsom Field as Colorado's head football coach. Deion Sanders meeting Ralphie for the first time went exact...
  17. Thanks for the heads up. I think the conference survives and expands by at least 1 team before the next media go-round where the Pac should be perfectly positioned. The monkey wrench? If and when student-athletes are deemed to be employees. But even in this 'brave new world' I think Oregon survives and thrives. NIL-wise, Division Street should not be sold short, and many more folk will have availability to stream games than the 13M subscribers who had access to the Pac-12 Network.
  18. And the schedule ratchets up for the Utes this season.
  19. Good question but this season Utah has a more difficult confereacheule schedule having to play at SC and with an opening game vs Florida and a 2nd OOC P5 game at Baylor. And, will QB Rising be healthy?
  20. Interesting call on Silverman. Of course, the B1G in 2024 will be coast-to-coast. I do not see SC/UCLA wanting to recruit against Oregon and/or Washington as B1G members. And I don't see why Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, and other B1G teams voting to add teams that will often defeat these schools in football, take money away from these schools and increase west coast travel. SC/UCLA coming on board is the principal reason Ohio State paid UW $500,000.00 not to have to trip to Seattle in 2024.
  21. Great take and I'd love to see a regular season and a champ game sweep to send Troy on its 'merry way' to re-match after thousands of years, the Spartans. The defense will be the Trojans' Trojan Horse. (Actually, I think the last time SC played MI ST it lost to Sparty in the Rose Bowl?) Dark Horses - UCLA - NO P5 teams out-of-conference with all OOC games played in the Rose Bowl - Easiest Pac-12 SOS Why this gift to another school-blowing town? Great work Merton Hanks. Why with computers and software in the world does Merton have a job? Has anyone seen football refs improving under Hanks' watch? Oregon State - No P5 teams OOC (game at SDSU could be tough) and #8 Pac-12 SOS.
  22. Pete Fiutak at College Football News has one of the best track records as a college football preseason prognosticator. He has ranked teams going into the 2023 season from 1 to 133. Pac-12 Rankings 8. USC - Strength of Pac-12 Schedule (SOS) Ranking - 1 being the most difficult - 10. 9. Washington - SOS - 4 13. Oregon - "The return of QB Bo Nix is huge, but the Ducks lose a ton from both sides, especially up front. The talent is there but it is young." SOS - 11 16. Utah - SOS - 7 18. Oregon State - SOS - 8 27. UCLA - SOS - 12 43. Washington State - 43 - SOS - 9 51. Arizona - 51 - SOS - 5 65. - ASU - SOS - 6 69. - Colorado - SOS - 1 70. - CAL - SOS - 2 78.. - Stanford - SOS - 3 Teams on the Pac-10 Expansion Radar - 55. Tulane 56. Fresno State 66. San Diego State 79. SMU 112. UNLV Oregon P5 out-of-conference opponent - 24. Texas Tech - "QB Tyler Shough is going to be huge leading the high-powered offense." Pete's Top 4 - 1. Georgia 2. Ohio State 3. Alabama 4. Michigan If we had a 12-team playoff in 2023 - 1. Georgia - SEC vs. 9. Washington - At Large (AL) at 8. LSU - AL 2. Ohio State - B1G vs. 10. Tennessee - AL at 7. Penn State - AL 3. FSU - ACC vs. 11. Texas - B12 at 6. Michigan - AL 4. USC - Pac-12 vs. 12. Boise State (MW) at 5. Alabama (AL) Note - Boise State is preseason ranked #54 - makes the field by finishing as the 6th highest ranked conference champion.
  23. Reportedly Phillips, former AD at Northwestern is signing a 3-year extension to stay on as the ACC commissioner. In even more bending over to Notre Dame football, the ACC is dropping divisions but will remain at 8 conference games. Why? Because Notre Dame plays 4 to 6 games every season vs the SEC and Georgia Tech plays Georgia, FSU plays Florida, Clemson plays South Carolina and Louisville plays Kentucky. Hats off to FSU for playing both LSU and Florida in 2023. At this point in time, I see no additional B1G growth until the next media go-round. The B1G deal is locked in and FOX has kept ESPN out of LA. Also, the Pac-10 media rights deal looks like it will extend perhaps into June. I doubt the B1G is going to come after Oregon, UW, or any other Pac-12 teams before it knows the bidding floor for Pac-10 teams. And I do not think that many of the B1G presidents want to be responsible for the complete destruction of the Pacific conference. Also, Ohio State canceling out playing UW in Seattle in 2024 with a return game the following year in Columbus is telling in regards to B1G teams' desire to travel to the Left Coast.
  24. Darren, if a tree falls in the forest ...? Great update on Who Knows if Bo can win the Heisman? But other than the game when USC trips to Autzen in November (and the game best kick off no later than 4:30 Pacific time) will enough eyeballs be on Bo to bring home the prize if Bo plays well enough to earn the reward? Interesting that you mentioned Derrick Henry. As David Shaw said Christenson deserved the award but far more people watched Henry play football in the Big, Bad SEC. How great is it that in 2023 4 Pac-12 QBs, Williams, Penix, Bo, and Rising are in ESPN's top 10 returning QB list? But as Charles cautions the Ducks will need to go 13-1 and win the conference title in a year that has 'cannibal' written all over it.
