  1. All early signing day has done is move up the timeline on coach's being fired. Moved up the date when kids enter the portal. Drop this and go back to the February signing day.
  2. I respect your take. But was Mario ever going beyond the RB when it is an exhibition game. You need a top drawer QB to make the CFP. Mario buried Herbert's talent. You need to keep a staff together as did Dabo during Clemson's lean years. And when you recruit a QB like Watson or Lawrence, he must be utilized.
  3. How about NO! Been there, seen this. He could not recruit at UCLA, although he did use the transfer portal to his advantage. And his life long DC is not good.
  4. JON WILNER: Wilcox Harsin Kelly Coach Pete Sitake Tedford. Wilner stresses that someone has to be hired who gives a whip about Oregon.
  5. I for one am very happy he is leaving. Recruit like a CFP contender? Yes. Coach like a CFP contender? NO!
  6. Mullen hired by Mullens? Another New Hampshire boy, as is Mullen, did a pretty good job at Oregon?
  7. If you compare his recruiting budget at CAL , admissions restrictions and NO support from the administration he didn't have a decent recruiting platform. Any 'smooth talker' you bring in from outside the Oregon family is much more likely to bolt? Look at Clemson. Dabo kept the same staff as he slowly built up the program. What you need as Dabo found out, is a QB like Watson or Lawrence. Or coaching up a guy like Thompson? I think Musgrave would do fine as an OC and I wasn't all that impressed by DeRuyter.
  8. Agree with SC. In general, when the conference reaches the playoff twice in 8 years there are not a lot of elite jobs in the conference.
  9. And to bring guys in. MI ST and Baylor vastly improved this season taking many the player out of the portal.
  10. Unknown but I doubt that the B1G and Pac-12 would go for 8 (5 P5 champs, G% rep, 2 AL) without some sort of protection for the Rose Bowl?
  11. Expansion of the current playoff is still under discussion with the ACC supposedly and in line with Dabo and Mack Brown, wanting an 8 team field. The B1G and Pac-12 being fine with a 12 team but insisting that all power 5 champs are in the field. And there is a lot of debate as to whether or not to include the existing NY6 bowls. Because of the extra $ an expanded playoff will bring in, I expect an agreement will come by March. This would possibly allow the field to expand by 2024? If the NCAA was in charge of the football championship, below is the tournament field. 1. Alabama - SEC vs 16. Northern Illinois - MAC 8. Ole Miss - AL vs 9. Oklahoma State- AL 4. Cincinnati - AAC vs 13. Louisiana - Sun Belt 5. Notre Dame - AL vs 12. Pittsburgh - ACC 2. Michigan - B1G vs 15. Utah State - Mountain West 7. Baylor - B12 vs 10 Michigan State - AL 3. Georgia - AL vs 14. UTSA - CUSA 6.Ohio State - AL vs 11 Utah - Pac-12 Using the Pac-12 and B1G's proposal the field would be: 1.Alabama - SEC 2. Michigan - B1G 3. Georgia - AL 4. Cincinnati - AAC/G5 5. Notre Dame - AL 6. Ohio State - AL 7.Baylor - B12 8. Ole Miss - AL 9. Oklahoma State - AL 10. Michigan State - AL 11. Utah - Pac-12 12. Pitt - ACC I either of the above the Pac-12 has only a single representative. Without Mario, life and Oregon football will go on
  12. Very good question. Wilcox would have a far larger recruiting budget at Oregon and the full support of the administration. He was handcuffed at CAL in so many ways.
  13. David, in his 2nd season Kiffin has Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. Any offer made by Oregon will be matched by Ole Miss. However, the rumor is that Lane's OC is going to Oklahoma with Brent Veneables? Maybe he'd come west for a chance to beat down SC under Riley? But today he is far better recruiting territory and especially after the victory over A+M, he has Ole Miss at 2nd place in the SEC W. Also, he gets play games when people are awake and to covered year round by the SEC network and Paul Finebaum. I of course believe that Oregon is a very good job but not an elite job.
  14. ESPN calls it Oklahoma 35 - Oregon 21 WA ST is the only Pac-12 team predicted by ESPN to win its bowl game.
  15. Joe Brady was just fired as OC of the Panthers and has never been a HC?
  16. 2021 was Aranda's 2nd season as the Baylor HC. Won 2 games in 2020. Sugar Bowl and B12 champ in 2021.
  17. I think the guy leaving is all for the best in the long run? He isn't happy with $8.5M a year in Eugene? Get lost and enjoy the extra loot in Florida. If he doesn't think he'll get booed in Miami, best of luck. Now, how about hiring a HC who gives a whip about Oregon?
  18. WHO wants the guy to stick around? He is either going to Miami or thought he could play PK with the idea that he is going to Miami. How about hire someone who will put the fun back into football? Someone who isn't stubborn as a goat, understands the modern game and is capable of delegating and not micro-managing?
  19. I think new HC Veneables and his new OC from Ole Miss, may coach the Sooners in the Alamo Bowl that ESPN isn't broadcasting until 9:15 ET. Regardless, I expect OK fans to outnumber Ducks fans 8 to 2? This is a terrible bowl for the conference to send its 2nd best team to. Holiday, Las Vegas and LA all make more sense.
  20. I agree on Kiffin but he is close to signing a big extension at Ole Miss. Honestly, if you have a job in the SEC today and you are not Lincoln Riley headed to a blue blood, do you want to come and coach in the Pac-12? Apparently Kiffin is losing his OC who is following Brent Venables to Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the Ducks Alamo Bowl opponent with the game broadcast at the friendly viewer time of 9:15 ET. A big extension for Aranda is on the table and he feels a great deal of loyalty to Baylor. He is taking Baylor to the Sugar Bowl. Why would he want to leave Baylor for Oregon? Fickell is now coaching in the Power 5, in the B12. The 'new' B12 has 3 teams, 4. Cincinnati, 7 Baylor and 9 OK ST in NY6 Bowl games. Why leave the B12 for an inferior football conference? Why leave Cincinnati that he and his wife and family love for Eugene? Chip Kelly has a losing record at UCLA and he hates recruiting. Coach Pete, IMO, has no interest in getting back into the grind of coaching? He is being paid by both FOX, and by UW as an advisor to the AD. If he wanted back in he would have returned to UW. With the state of the conference, the fate of a new media deal unknown and the fate of a functionally insolvent network unknown, what's the draw to the Pac-12? Riley was drawn by LA, the money and the chance to reinvigorate blue blood USC. SC is the plum job in the conference. I doubt that Riley would have tripped to Eugene and whether Oregon could come up with $9M+? Chip bolted. Willie bolted. Looks like Mario is bolting and the way this all went down with Miami, who wants the guy to stay? Goodbye to you and your antiquated offense. I know Charles does not like the idea, but I would hire Justin Wilcox, Peter Sirmon and OC Musgrave. All who played for the Ducks. Wilcox never got a fair shake at CAL. Wilcox defeated Mario in 2020 and battled into the 4th Q against Oregon in 2021. It will not take $9M to hire Wilcox and he will be loyal to Oregon. Alabama OC Bill O'Brien is another guy I'd look at. The problem? He's tied up through the Playoff and assuming Bama beats Cincy, that means he's tied up through 1/10/22. Flyer candidate? If you want to watch up-tempo. high-flying O, bring in Jeremy Chadwell from Coastal Carolina. Thanks for the take. The next HC hire CANNOT be a stepping stone job.
  21. With the NFL rookie of the year at QB and by 1 point over a 3 loss team.
