Lanning on Recruiting: "We Will Be Aggressive."
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think Oregon has proven to be harder to recruit too, but not impossible. This difficulty has either been looked upon as an excuse or a challenge. Fortunately we have another coach and staff who look upon the difficulty as a challenge. That challenge has the full support of the alumni. As Dan stated he now needs the complete support of the fanbase. If all those things come together so will the recruits and the program. A simple formula and certainly not an insurmountable challenge. Rise up fanbase and support Dan, staff and the program! Go Ducks! -
I think it is quite shrewd for an athlete to ask the question who benefits from me wearing this product. That question has so many answers it is important for all to at least consider. From who grew, produced the product to how it was made, to who may be making money on this purchase. Not being aware, making a thoughtful choice just allows you to be unknowingly manipulated. Nike benefits from athletes wearing their product. They pay the universities big dollars so their athletes wear their logo. An athlete expecting a little cut of that isn't so much selfish as just being a smart, thinking consumer. Now expecting massive payouts, that would be selfish and not grounded in reality for most student athletes. To say it is selfish, I think, is naive to what is going on with the whole meaning of the NIL acronym. These athletes are a large part of Oregon's Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) as they compete as football players. I personally choose to try and not wear labels. I don't like to be defined by a product, or have anyone label as a Patagonia, Nike guy. I like to buy specific products because of the type of material and look, and often choose that to not have a label. Some may want the label, the exact jersey, I am not that guy. To each his own. I can agree the student athlete should be focused on being a student and an athlete. Focusing on making money, and being a professional would seem to make an already difficult situation untenable. Hopefully Oregon can be a school where a student athlete can be just that while feeling they aren't being taken advantage of. Students athletes who play high level football who are too broke to enjoy college isn't just. It will be interesting to see how this all develops over the coming years.

One Grade of Ducks Recruiting Class: Deserved?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Tough one to compare or really grade and fairly contrast other situations. I suppose one could look at Jordan James, Jahlil Florence Justius Lowe and Dave Luli and pull some inferences from those recruiting battles. Number one Dan Lanning came late to the game in recruiting for the Ducks and did pretty well, but we need some perspective. Mario was a continuation of slick so he wasn't starting from scratch while beginning his coaching stint at Oregon. This means simply comparing their first years isn't valid for comparing ratings straight across. One can look at how Lanning continued to do well in head to head against sc, much like Mario did, well done. He also gave us a focus on keeping Oregon kids home, also kudos. Both pretty impressive accomplishments from a guy who has been all the way across the country. With Jordan James he showed he can bring talent across the country from his ties to Georgia. This isn't something we got out of Mario. He brought a few guys from Florida in 2019, but it wasn't like we hired a guy who brought the talent from the south. Coach Lanning seems to indicate he might be able to bring a little more talent from the south, it will be interesting to watch that. James was a guy all the top programs in the south recruited and wanted. With Dave Luli Coach Lanning went head to head with Mario and did something he could never do. Mario couldn't break the Washington code for recruiting. Coach Lanning showed he could recruit to the north, well done. It seems Lanning has strengths Mario never showed. I think Lanning is showing he can get the guys he wants, with little impact on who else is recruiting, Mario included. I give him a solid A for the job he did. I think there is the potential to see an A+ soon with the signals I saw come through with this class. There is definitely more there than merely looking at numbers and simple math. -
Actually probably not a good idea, but does remind me of one of my favorite Saturday Night Live skits, 'meet your second wife.' If you want a good laugh, and enjoy that stuff, it hits the spot.

My Very Late, Probably Past its Expiration Date MC Post
Haywarduck replied to CalBear95's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My understanding Rob was busy with creating headlines and appeasing alumni while the real work was being done. It would be interesting to know the real story, but the end result is a thing of beauty, that we can all agree! -
Let's break this down. Adia Barnes is intimidated by one thing, and one thing only. Winning Percentage Overall Pac-12 Kelly Graves 73% 66% Adia Barnes 60% 45% I can agree Kelly Grave's teams beat women at a much higher rate than Adia's teams. Kelly Graves also recruits and develops great women student athletes at a better clip than Adia.

Maybe someone can take advantage of this opportunity... Special deal for a fellow Duck brother (who can move quick): I know it's short notice but a buddy of mine has two tickets for the Super Bowl in Inglewood at SOFI stadium Sunday Feb 13!! They're box seats that he spent $4,500 a piece, which includes a ride from the airport, open bar, and a pass into the winners locker room. What he didnt realize was that last year when he bought em was that this is the same day as his wedding. Bummer. So if you're interested, he's looking for someone to take his place. It’s at St. Paul’s church at 3 pm. Her name is Ashley and she is 5’5, very cute (I've seen her) and about a 110 pounds. She's an awesome cook and enjoys the outdoors, graduate of Oregon, and is a fitness freak. Get back to me.

Actions Speak: Danno Concerned About the Defensive Line

Loved Jordan and am grateful he came and helped us out. The problem was he was always shorter than his stats showed, but had a great heart. -
Actions Speak: Danno Concerned About the Defensive Line
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We don't want anyone fat and happy, we want large, dominating and competitive. Bigs need bigs, and I remember some of our best d-lines were at the multiple NFL level talent. Ngata and Igor, Deforest and Arik were a time with the LB's we have now would have been an epic defense. Mr. Lanning knows he doesn't have all the ingredients just yet. Speed and size at DB, strength, size and mobility at LB and dominating size and power on the D-line. We have had a few of the components, but Dan is going to put it all together along with shrewd play calling. Anticipation may just align with outcomes, wouldn't that be nice! -
A Quote From a Newly Reclassified 2022 5* (Possible Duck?)
Haywarduck replied to Flyin Vee's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Justin Herbert studied to become a doctor, and he still can after football. Lebbeus is also interested in business and that road is very strong within the Oregon Athletic Department. Agree the kid would be an asset on and off the field for any program. His parents must be very proud. This would definitely help define Tosh and Tony as Oregon recruiters. It seems like we are already seeing the impact Mr. Lanning is having, LOVE, LOVE IT! -
Lanning Laws: “That Won’t Last a Week at Oregon”
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Brilliant take AMCDAWG! Leadership on the field is critical, recruiting and fostering that is a enormous part of building a strong program. Your last quote is spot on if a program is strong from within, "our leaders will handle that." A sage from the sideline is what I want to see, once again. A critical mistake I remember watching was at the continual changes to play calls from the sideline, and the players just passively waiting for the adjustment. We were actually caught off guard too many times, once against tosu, because the leadership was dictated from the sideline, not fostered on the field. It will be a massive upgrade to see leadership fostered from the players on and off the field. I think that is one of the most important gifts a coach can instill in the players, an ability to take what has been learned and lead, problem solve on ones own, and as a team. These are young men who should be molded into strong men of integrity! -

I was just reflecting on our Ducks under Lanning so far. I would give him a 4.5 star rating for the work he has done so far. Today is another great day for Dan and the program. From day one to the time he spent doing two jobs he was beyond impressive. From dealing with student athletes all the way across the continent to calling recruits as he stepped off the big games field, astounding. I think this was a testament to how he is going to handle the stressful situation which will come his way. I don't think he needed to call timeout once! His coaching hires were notable and superb. We are seeing the first results from the recruiting and analysis of the student athletes and it is again remarkable. In such a short time he has shored up weaknesses and addressed the many questions most of us have had. Going forward I expect some let downs but those let downs won't be patterns, just learning opportunities. This guy seems like the real deal. So far he is on the rise, and 5 stars don't seem too far off. Well done Dan and HIS Oregon Duck Football Program!

Even in a Lean Recruiting Year....We Still BEAT Washington

The Tight End Position in the Kenny Dillingham Offense
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Exactly, much when I saw Jordan Kent running down the basket ball court, he was just too fast. Franck may be able to learn to train his aggressive play, but he would just have to turn it loose on an end zone pass, and it would be over before it began. -

Please help change that back to, "In the south, and really throughout the country, when they think of west coast football who do they fear, OREGON!" -
Can't wait to hear the announcer say this is starting to look like 'A Jordan James Game.' The kid is just taking over and dominating the opposing team! Welcome to a long line of great Oregon Running Backs!
