  1. Let me fix this, The Pac was done after the Presidents of the Universities all clinked their crystal champagne glasses filled with a 1959 Dom Perignon, celebrating their Harvard educated genius Larry Scott. They were celebrating the $500 to $750 million dollars Larry was going to sell a 10% stake in his creation, the Pac-12 network. Little did they know this was about the time the scam was all falling apart. Pictured below is a small part of the old Pac-12 headquarters, under Larry.
  2. I don't think it is so much the hatred, the rivalry, it is the......... And Oregon can bring in the ..........
  3. If Dan Lanning does as well as we hope schools will try and pay the $20 million buyout all day and night. The spoiled children paid off Helton, and Oklahoma to get Riley for a total close to $20 million. A large buyout is just smart negotiating. All it does to Lanning is make sure a solid school will try and buy him, no mid major will even try. I could see these type of buyouts become as expensive as the coaches contract, just makes sense, at least for schools investing a lot into a coach.
  4. We don't know exactly how Lanning rolls, but he just keeps rolling them in. I have a feeling there is a bit of a PWO with this guy.
  5. Another thing, this next step isn't the last step. The whole change thing which is happening in college football is maybe in the 2nd inning. There is plenty of bigger things which will happen soon enough to make this little stage seem trivial. Much like the teenager in middle school who thinks its the end of the world, this is just one little part, painful, but it will also be laughable soon enough. We won't just be just fine. The times ahead are going to be even better than ever before, and no apocalypse.
  6. It also all hinges on the health of one guy. If Nix goes down, all bets are off. I do look forward to what Stein can do with our backups, just not too soon! Actually get those guys out there soon and often, but just not with the game on the line.
  7. And if there is no smoke it is all mirrors. I know I am holding my breath on this one today!
  8. I am more confident Stein will be successful at Oregon than I am Dilly will be successful at ASU. Stein has proven he is an excellent OC, as has Dilly. Dilly hasn't proven he can be a head coach. The assistants and the student athlete talent at Oregon is off the hook too! To answer your question Nix will help Stein be a better OC than Dilly was. We have better downfield threats, more seasoned runners along with better depth. The only question is the O-line, but Lanning filled holes, and Terry is going to surprise people with how talented he is. Stein has shown he can coach up talent, and we have talent. As much as I liked Dilly, I put the beav loss on him.
  9. There are a few formulas, but playing lots of tough teams and then winning the playoffs hasn't been one of them. It does sound good, but agree Clemson's formula is the one we should shoot for. One thing we need is enough exposure that the elite talents will keep coming to Oregon. Even with the best facilities and great coaching, kids want to be seen and able to win big things. Mariota winning the Heisman was huge for making Oregon legit. We need Nix to be in the hunt this year or win it. We now need to be on tv, in front of numbers. Oregon needs to be must see tv!
  10. Darn and all this time I had bought into the idea the Pac-12 network was worth $5 billion, said the University Presidents!
  11. Agree about our receiver room being underestimated. I think this is a longterm trend, but then again I thought our LB room had changed back when we signed the two highest rated LB's. I will go with we will have multiple big threats at wide receiver, but Franklin is the best. The one item I am interested in watching is Rising at Utah. I think the pundits are underestimating this kids leadership skills, toughness and ability to win. Penix has been an accident waiting to happen who has been coached up at Washington. I could see him having a sophomore type season where he flounders more after catching the Pac off guard. He is a known quantity as is Deboers system now. I mean if MariØ can beat him, Deboer isn't that unbeatable. As for Williams at sc, in the game against Utah Rising looked a lot tougher than Williams. They were both hurt, and Rising led the Utes to the victory. All the pundits could do was talk about how gritty Williams was, while Rising played hurt, and won. I put our game against Utah in SLC as the toughest game. Rising is a force who many don't fully appreciate. I see it as a Nix, Rising competition as the best in the Pac, and maybe the Heisman. I also know this is just a prediction, and could be totally wrong. I do love putting this kind if stuff out there, because too many just look at trends and put sc, the dawgs at the top without respecting toughness, and the darkhorse.
  12. It is going to be mayhem on offense and havoc on defense, must see tv! The only contrast will be the harmony we see in the execution of special teams.
  13. I guess I don't get it. I can spin the Oregon facts positive all day. The facts with the Pac are we lost sc, ucla, colorado, and we know little other facts. I can't spin those facts positive, and if we lose Arizona, not going to spin that positive either. Now if we sign a great, or good tv contract, sign on SDSU, SMU and begin to see some positive facts then I can see a positive spin beginning to happen with the Pac. Until the then I stay away from the Pac discussion, because there isn't much positive going on. I will say there is plenty to talk about the 2023 season, and the future with Dan Lanning. Talk about the Pac is like talking about the other P word, to me. It's not football and there is little positive to talk about with it.
  14. I heard the Pac-9 is trying to rename Big-9, and are just trying to fit in. They are also patenting Big-8, Big-7, Big-6, and Big Ash Mess!
  15. Not sure the sky is falling, but the ability to see anything clearly will take a while.
  16. I'm definitely wondering if the quote about staying quiet is wise, because saying something will remove all doubt about ones' incompetence applies to George. For now we have to give him a little slack because we really don't know what he has done, and he seems to think staying silent is the best course. The quote from George is the deal is getting better the longer we wait, right? It is interesting George seems to indicate he will act quickly after the media deal is signed. He states 'immediately' after the deal is signed he will embrace expansion. I do wonder what immediately means to someone who seems to have taken so long to do, just about anything. One thing is for sure Oregon will be just fine, not so sure about some of the other Pac-9 schools. Most schools will need George to pull a rabbit out of his hat.
  17. I have it on good authority George is looking into this, studying the situation, and everything will be under control. An announcement is imminent, I have also heard from those way up the food chain. Actually, for those of my era, I think Don Rickles said it best. The problem is when Rickles said the insults he was being funny, and it was a sign of endearing admiration, most of the time. He was the king of insults.
  18. Here is George, if he was a pole vaulter. 'Hang on guys, I almost got this!'
  19. I just get.......... thinking about the stuff you guys discuss here about the movements, none movements and nonsense.......
  20. What I was concerned about is this is Mullens standard process. He hasn't learned much, other than when Cristobal demanded a larger buyout. A bigger buyout may be standard procedure now, but the early extension is just how he rolls. This would be like Lanning trying to run Nix at the goal line between tackles with an empty backfield. If we see Lanning repeat some of his mistakes we should be concerned. What I would like to see is Mullens competing against what is making Georgia so successful. I would imagine Lanning would appreciate this even more than a bump in pay and an extension. There is only so much money you can spend, but the time a competent and complete staff gives you is priceless. Also this is what helps a program get better, not just paying the head coach more money. The key to success for Georgia football? Let's start with team's (massive) support staff. WWW.USATODAY.COM The defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs put the explosive growth of college football support staffs on display.
  21. Didn't I see this before.........
  22. Seems like a good business decision to extend his contract before expected success. The problem I see is he may have that success and then be up for a raise based on the success. Are we satisfied with a top 15 program, the rumored salary position Lanning's contract puts him at? The other thing that can happen is not meeting expectations and then the extension just seems ok, or maybe even too much. I would think the savvy thing to do is to reward success when there is a trend after season two. You then reinforce the outcome you want, and everyone is clear on expectations. I do agree with the article the buyout is a critical component. I would hope Mullins has learned a lesson on that one, and the buyout is extremely high, as committing to a coach is a two way street. The coach has to be willing to commit to the length of the contract too, or be willing to compensate the program. I look at this as a nice way to say we are behind Lanning, but it just seems premature. Mullens gave Helfrich a 5 year extension after a couple years of success based on what he inherited. We really didn't know how he was going to do on his own. We now see Mullens giving Lanning a longterm extension after one season. Do we really have a better understanding how Lanning is going to do as compared to Helfrich when he got his extension? I'm all in on Lanning, don't get me wrong, it just seems early to be giving an extension. I could see bumping his salary up to reflect the success he had this past season, a top 15 salary. That is respect, something everyone should have. I could also see promising to extend the contract after the season, with an agreement to review it every two years. That creates a longterm system for managing Lanning's contract. The only really sound reason for this contract extension is if Lanning said he wasn't comfortable with the length. If he wanted a longer commitment then you might take the gamble, as almost all indicators are exceptional. I just would have waited, bumped his salary now, and tied him up after more data. What did we really get with this extension? Seems like the same thing Mullen did with Helfrich, too soon.
  23. The reason you only went 19 years back is because 20 years ago was the last time they were relevant. Twenty years ago is when they started to fire any coach who began to trend down. The last coach Manny Diaz trended down to 7-5 and was fired. Cristobal took over and went 5-7. This is a record Miami has seen in 15 years. I would say the 'current' has been ok in Miami over the last 19 years, but Cristobal took them back to the dark days. This year is critical year and every modern day coach at Miami has improved their second year. I would say he has to improve this year or he is gone. He has to become relevant in year 3 or he is gone. Miami isn't mighty, but they have proven to be mighty quick in firing anyone who disappoints, even for one year. After one season things are getting a little tight around Miami for Mario in year 1.
  24. After our experience with Noah and Justin, the transfer portal may be the best route to elite LB play. Players commit to programs where they get tired of losing. Players also commit to programs where they sit too long and want a chance to compete. Oregon just needs to take care of their own business and the recruits and transfers will play out.
  25. Would love to see us elevate SDSU at sc's expense. Giving SDSU the Pac spotlight would hurt one program, maybe two, and they both deserves a slap.
