Probably could have, but it's safer just to launch the ball out of bounds to burn the last few seconds.  I was a little suprised though, that he didn't scramble a little on each kneel-down to burn off a few more seconds.

Lanning mentioned the kneel downs were too fast in his presser today, so you're right on.

Precision clock management.  I didn't think they would be able to burn that last 13 seconds in one play, but by launching that last moon-ball Bo milked every last second.  Since the clock doesn't stop until the ball actually touches something out of bounds, it was clear that DL had no intention of scoring.

I thought, and was hoping, Bo was going to scramble until the clock hit zero. He has the wheels.

Neither will win coach of the year ... We all know that Lincoln Riley has already won that award and we are just waiting to hear the announcement at the end of the year.

Don't let the Pac-10 door hit you on the way out, Lincoln.

I think this is another place the Ducks will benefit from CDL’s attitude towards the game.  I think much like Kirby he will strive to keep players focused on the task at hand.  The old cliche line “be where your feet are” attitude.  A true trap game starts in the practices leading up to the game.  It could happen, but I have the feeling Oregon’s coaching staff is not a staff that will allow for this to be a problem.

Being beat down early (Georgia) and hit in the face and knocked down only to come back to win (WSU) fosters a much different attitude, in my humble opinion.

If the Ducks were 6-1 with a close loss to GA and blowout wins thereafter, I could see it happen under another HC.

The "it's like whatever" perspective DeAnthony revealed regarding the Rose bowl is not happening with this team -- I agree not likely under Lanning.

Was it Franklin that was jawing after a great catch and then Lanning shutting that down quickly? The receiver patted his chest and clearly said, "on me". I LOVED that scene. I have respect for both of them.

  5. Dan Lanning showed a LOT of class by taking a knee at the end of the game.

In today's culture where teams leading by a wide margin fake punts and fake QB kneels and when the winning margin might be the difference between being voted into the playoffs or not, Lanning chooses sportsmanship.

I'm convinced Oregon would have scored.

Lanning became a Man of Oregon in my book today.

  6. I don't feel good about any of the examples and I'm sure I've posted similar comments, especially on game day.

I try to filter my thoughts and write according to the policies and guidelines.

If I cross the line or if someone is not sure, I encourage everyone to use the three dots in the upper right of my post and report it for review.

I will not be offended if a post is deleted for any reason because I trust how it is managed.

I'll put me helmet back on and mouth guard in and wait for another opportunity to do better.

Great stats to substantiate your take! Dilly coached Bo when he had those stats. Bo would be clobbered on here with his freshman, sophomore stats. Is Ty just doing what Bo would have?

Also agree it would be nice to see Butters get a shot. It might do both of the back-ups good. I will say I hope the fans don't crucify him if he doesn't look all world in garbage time.

It is amazing when a starter struggles everyone loves the back-up. When the starter is good everyone worries about the back-up and no one measures up. Kind of predictable emotional response patterns.

I just hope the coaches and the players keep their heads down while plowing ahead. We are lucky to have Bo, and we need to develop our back-ups.

This is where I feel our perspectives are muddying the points we're trying to make.

Again, I'm rooting for Ty to succeed.

But I'm not pointing out stats.  It's many of the other aspects a QB needs at the FBS level to succeed that Ty isn't demonstrating.

In the other thread, notice I mentioned a hand off, not a pass play as an example of when I don't see a leader. I've only seen him watch the play once he's done the minimum task.

I agree the Bo Nix stats his first game are not good. But watch the Eagle in his first game. Does this last drive look like the Bo we see today?

(I can't see Ty doing this today. Prove me wrong, Ty. Please!)

Yet Bo Nix started out in “War Eagle” school and experts concluded he was likely a “sparrow”.

Then Bo was sent to Ducks school and with every passing game he looks more and more like an “Eagle”.

    🙂

Bo's talent, poise, and leadership was evident his first game on the national stage against the Ducks in his first college game.

Did he make mistakes? Yes. Was he a sparrow? No.

TT and Butterfield have been victims of the previous three coaches' inability to develop QBs. Dillingham's approach has been a blessing in that he had to have known that TT was not taught much of anything, so I presume he's being coached in practice and then being given game time to get some experience. Yes, TT looks rough and unspectacular, but one of Mario's greatest faults was - and is - an inability to coach and use QBs. TT is being given the time to learn. I don't expect that Butterfield is in a better spot. It's not an "it" factor. TT just has not been coached until this year. I'm grateful that we have Dillingham on board - a QB coach that can actually teach QB play. TT will come around, but more importantly Dante Moore has a lot to look forward to. It's one thing to be a 5* and another to be coached and taught how to be a QB.

Sorry. I just don't buy the victim argument. We're half way through this season. I don't see any progression from the first game he played until now.

Do you have facts regarding how he has been coached?

While I agree that TT's actions are not compelling, I also agree TThas been given little opportunity to succeed.

The play calling when Bo is in the game compared to when TT is in the game is night and day.  Against Arizona, TT was only allowed to throw pre-determined swing passes.

My guess is that the coaches don't trust TT right now to run the full offense, but I think they need to give him a chance so that they can evaluate what he can and can't do under the bright lights.

He's thrown a variety of passes and has run a variety of plays, though. He threw an INT down field that was called back due to offsides.

The plays seemed similar to plays Bo Has run.

As mentioned by one person previously, Ty Thompson is not put in a position to thrive.  I believe he threw the ball past the line of scrimmage once on the offside play?  He hasn't looked great, but he is playing with the 2nd or 3rd string.  If Nix comes back, he is gone I think.  If Nix leaves he might come back to compete against Moore.

    I respectfully disagree.

He's had first team linemen, etc. at times. Yes, he's had some dropped balls, etc. But lack of effort is 100% on him.

I've read a lot of compelling comments in his favor. His actions are not compelling.

I have no doubt he has the "can do". I don't see the "will do". I want him to excel and don't want to keep harping, but this topic keeps coming up and I think it's all on him.

Ty has to quiet the critics. No one can do that for him.

    Go Ducks! Go Ty!

  12. Call me old school, but I was taught to take opportunity by the horns and make the most of it.

When Mariota and later Herbert were given an opportunity, their was an immediate buzz.

I see a man who has spent countless hours as a Duck that seems to be going through the motions...and not very well at that.

I haven't seen any extra effort after he hands the ball off. DO something!

Fake like you still have the ball and run the other direction. Put your body in front of a defender. Push the back forward. Do almost anything but stand and watch.

You have to practice like you plan to play and Garbage time is when you show how you will play when every play counts.

I'm convinced if Bo can't play, it's going to be a Lockie/Burmeister show.

If Ty is skilled enough to start, he needs to grab the bull by the horns and start balling out because time is ticking.  And opportunities do not come around often.

  13. While watching highlights this morning I noticed there was a significant head to head collision during Oregon’s third TD against Arizona that was not called.

It may not technically include ALL of the rules requirements, but the defender didn't make any effort to change his helmet position. I actually feel he took the brunt of the impact.

Ironically, on the next series for Arizona,  Manning was ejected for targeting.

This thread has some great facts and opinions regarding the rule and inconsistent in-game decisions by on field and off field officials.

I don't know the best way to improve the process. But I agree with the title. It's ruining the game.

    SOMETHING has to change!
