  1. I think it was the right decision. Kept ESPN from monopolizing the playoffs with no competitive bidding from Fox or CBS. 12 teams is a bad idea: 1) the 4 teams that get a bye are at a huge advantage; 2) the SEC would put a minimum of 3 teams in each year. Have you seen the way they schedule so that the haves play the have-nots every year and cannibalization is very rare where a top team in the East plays a top team from the West. Then they add in TX and OK which will be middle of the road kill for the upper teams. Lastly, when 8+ teams from the SEC are in the top 25 to start the year, it takes at least 2 Ls to get them out. The Alliance kept the leagues from raiding each other and does set up some better matchups which will lead to more $$. The expansion of the playoffs will happen and now the Alliance controls the number and the automatic bids.
  2. I agree with the statement above that this year is frustrating over disappointing SO FAR. This is Mario’s 4th year. Last year really should pretty much be thrown out. But it was similar to this year in that we don’t have an above average QB. Obviously, we did with Hebert and he was absolutely mis-used for Oregon’s purposes, and that is on Mario and his offensive coaches. I am willing to let the coaches decide when the other QBs are ready. If they aren’t, then AB shouldn’t be benched. There is no use throwing out a freshman QB who isn’t ready just so he can get reps and throwing away a season. That is what the off season is for, training. Up North they have a 5 star frosh QB sitting behind an average at best starter (not that I would ever want to compare myself to them); and, at Oklahoma, their frosh QB was the #1 HS QB in the country and is living up to that ranking. In TT’s action so far, he hasn’t looked anything close to what Caleb Williams is showing. Each year the talent is getting better. The talent around AB on both sides of the ball is better than before. Maybe we just have to wait until the QB talent equals the other talent. I don’t want to be a Mets fan and “wait until next year”, so go with what the coaches say is our best chance to win now and develop the next QB later.
  3. Booing when appropriate is not disloyalty. You paid your money (and I agree with Charles about not being able to vote with your pocketbook without cutting off your nose) and it is your choice. Reminding the team their poop stinks is not a bad thing. Just think about that emperor who tried on his new clothes because no one had the guts to tell him the truth.
  4. Playing just good enough to win is better than just good enough to lose, aka Stanford game. So, I'm on bored right now.
  5. Martin had surgery Friday and was recovering at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The surgery was an amputation.
  6. Well, 1) Need to start booing on the first play and keep it up until there is a 3 score advantage. 2) That shouldn't have to be the motivation that gets the offense non-offensive.
  7. Based upon last night's games, we have either met our goal, or Clemson has become the Oregon of the ACC. Also, I've come to the conclusion that the best way to enjoy an Oregon game is make a small, or large wager that the Ducks don't cover the spread when they are the favorite. This way, there is at least some $atisfaction in watching a game like last night, or Stanford, or Arizona ....
  8. The SF Giants broadcasters have a name for this type of play .... TORTURE. Are we bowl eligible yet? Cuz it's going to be quite ride to get there.
  9. Ducks 42 - 24, 3, 3, 250
  10. This is the most important game of the regular season, and not in Coach Speak about trying to go 1 - 0 each week. The pre season is over. We are as healthy as we are going to be. We have had two weeks to digest and regurgitate the Stanford L. Time to walk the walk and find out if we have the team that beat Ohio St and played 28 minutes of good football in the 2nd half of the Stanford game. If their hair isn't on fire for 60 minutes, then some serious soul searching is needed. If it is, then we better see it each week. Cristobal isn't the only coach whose teams lay an egg each year, his predecessors have all done it. Boise State & Stanford ‘09, Auburn ‘10 (Chip's stubbornness cost us this game), USC ‘11, Stanford ‘12, Arizona ‘13, Arizona ‘14, Utah & Wazzu ‘15. AND the Stanford '12 L cost us the Natty as we would have crushed Notre Dame.
  11. I'll be wearing this (at home, CA) Friday night. Hopefully, the outcome is the same for the original night, 10/31/09. P.S. Oregon was #10 that night, poor U$C #4, goes down 47-20 P.P.S. I wore this to every home game last year .... my cutout pic.
  12. Jon Joseph, I agree. If fact my wife gets People magazine and I call Who??? magazine.
  13. My bad Charles, blaming it on pre caffeine grey matter.
  14. Charles, Charles, Charles, no offense, but what us Grey beards think about unis is irrelevant to what the youngins think. How many of us didn't like it at the turn of the century (21st, not 20th!) when Oregon began the non uniform uniforms?
  15. I'm going to respectfully disagree on the QB change and have the faith in Mario that Ty, and the others, aren't ready yet. We saw Ty miss three straight throws over the middle in one of his outings. Caleb Williams looked a lot better than Ty did in his outings, and it was against much better opposition than Ty faced. It is sad to see other teams WRs get separation when it doesn't seem that our can. Hopefully Moorehead is back and he calls more crossing patterns, rub routes, double moves, something to get guys open.
  16. EPSN asked 9 analysts who they thought were the MVP candidates thus far (Michael Clay may be biased if he is the Michael Clay former Duck) ... NFL MVP watch 2021 - Ranking the top candidates, eight quarterbacks in contention and who is rising (espn.com)
  17. I am definitely not a fair weather nor bandwagon fan. I still look for Duck news wherever I can (for free), yet I find myself ignoring the national tv pre-game and weekly programs after a loss as I already witnessed it and don't need any additional input. However, after a win, I will look at more sources to see if they are seeing anything I may have missed. It is interesting to note that on some national sites the Stanford loss is looking favorable due to 1) no Moorehead; 2) highly questionable un-timed down to tie; and, OT loss. Of course, I still see bad decisions by AB as the primary reason for the loss.
  18. I agree, this team is like a box of chocolates. The letdown against FSU I'll chalk up to a tremendous start (getting in the mindset that they can do anything at anytime to the Bulldogs ((by the way, didn't the Bulldogs show us something by beating a decent UCLA team? Well, until they took a Hawaiian vacation)) and then the Kayvon injury deflated the sails. tOSU, WOW. Since then wow. What's to come hopefully more WOW than wow. I'm ok with AB until injured or one of the Others steps up in practice to show the coaches that they are the future now.
  19. To answer your question, yes, as long as they run the table and other favorable things happen. "Bama's loss is a blessing and a curse. If they run the table and win the Conference, they're in. If they run the table and beat an undefeated Georgia, they are both in. If they run the conference table and and lose the conference CShip, they are probably out depending upon the rest of the conferences and Cinncy.
  20. When asked about AB’s play and QBing in general, paraphrasing what Cristobal said is ......it starts and ends with how you run the offense. Making sure everyone knows what the play is. On passes, the protection that goes with that play, and the route structure that goes with it. In comparing AB with “The Others”, they have done well in practice, it's just not near the level of AB. With AB leading the offense, the Ducks are second in the country in turnovers committed, 2; and scores points 91% percent of the time they the red zone (TDs at 74%) 18th nationally. So, are we better off with the better QB now and let The Others battle it out in practice; or, battle test the others at the sacrifice of this season? It's hard on us fans as we see somewhat sub-par QB play, but at the present, we evidently don't have anything better to throw out there.
  21. Nothing against Dye, but I would love to see all freshman backfield at some point in the Cal game.
