September is a good time to go chinook salmon fishing on the coast out of Winchester Bay (mouth of the Umpqua River). There are numerous guides available that know the area very well. The fall run of chinook in that area is well known for fish that range from 20 to +50 lbs. It is approximately a 90 minute drive from Eugene.

How many times in the past did we as fans express the need for taller WR’s that would create matchup problems? We now have a flock of receivers and TE’s that can create those match up problems. Kyle Kasper is a great addition to this team. Being 6’5” by itself creates match up problems. When this guy adds weight and strength to that frame…look out. Our QB’s have to be excited about the mix of size and speed available to them. If they can deliver a catchable ball to these guys we will put up some serious points on the board.

I know that fear isn’t meant to mean that we cower at the thought of playing USC, that’s absurd. Therefore, having some fear/respect of an opponents ability should always be used to motivate the competitive spirit in both the coaching staff, and players. With that said, I fear that USC is improving and that we never underestimate their abilities as a team. As Dan Lanning and staff constantly reiterates they are striving to improve each and every day. That is part of building the winning culture that this staff is trying to instill in this team. Ultimately, if that is embraced that is a never ending task. I look forward to some epic games with USC in the future.

Well stated opinion. A poor coaching hire would have been a huge set back for Oregon. Winning recruiting battles started very quickly and battling other high profile teams for top recruits is now continuing to be the norm. We have a staff that is up to the task. Making sports headlines because you are winning those recruiting battles draws the type of attention that we need. Top talent will definitely notice. I am a big fan of what I see and hear happening. I get the feeling that this journey will include a lot more check marks in the near future.

I quickly learned to not schedule Fall or Spring afternoon classes in Deady Hall…Especially the 90 minute Tuesday and Thursday lectures…no air conditioning back then.

Late spring days like this on the Oregon campus…AWESOME…A few changes have been made since I graduated…39 years and 10 months ago : ) From the historic Deady and Villard halls (built in 1876 and 1886) to the shiny new Hayward field. Very impressive.

Nice endorsement from Georgia. The Georgia fans might not have been quite as gracious if he left them to go coach at Georgia Tech or Auburn…lol

A lot can be learned beyond just football from this man. What a great attitude towards his job and his function as a mentor for the young men on the team.

When the coaches start hanging their hats on the moniker SEC West, then something very good, or bad is about to happen ; ) I am leaning heavily to the good side. Lanning would not allow what happened to the puppies 2022 recruiting class to happen at Oregon. He wanted to finish the season at Georgia (respect) and through sheer effort and hard work ended up with arguably the best staff and the top ranked recruiting class in the PAC 12. Impressive results. Unlike most coaches who bail on their teams before the ink dries on a new contract at another program Lanning opted to stay at Georgia. Helping the team win a National Championship establishes credibility beyond just the X’s and O’s. Players obviously listen and relate well to his vision and expectations. They are working their tails off to compete for starting positions and having fun. That ingredient alone keeps the highly competitive nature of proving oneself at this level fresh. Having Division Street in place for NIL support is also huge. It will be copied by many programs. Phil Knight wants this to be successful because he knows people are watching very closely. Therefore, Division Street is going to be very successful, and most importantly sustainable. With that type of NIL support Dan Lanning is equipped to land top talent. We just saw that happen and all of us were surprised. The future belongs to those who have a vision and a dream. Now let’s see what you can do with your vision and dreams Coach Lanning.

Locklyn is creating depth at a position that was much needed. He has been successful everywhere he has worked, and I believe he will continue along that path at Oregon. I get the feeling that his RB’s will help him earn a nice raise for the type of production they generate on game day.

Even in Herbert’s first lop-sided game against the puppies you could tell he could play. The fact that he opted to stay another year to have a shot at winning with his teammates, rather than chase NFL money, says a lot about his confidence and character. Then he goes out and wins the William Campbell trophy his senior year. Herbert is not only a great athlete, but also has a high level of intelligence. The guy is 6’ 6”, weighs 235 to 240, and flat footed can throw a 65 yard bomb. I am really glad someone went out on a limb and drafted him. Herbert’s record setting start is amazing. Watching him “stretch the field” is football entertainment at its finest. I am a Charger fan for as long as he wears that uniform.

Seems to me that an abnormally high percentage of rodents use Copenhagen/Skoal. The advertisement seems spot on as far as target audience…lol.

Establishing a culture that thrives is easier said than done. It starts with the coaching staff establishing goals and defining the work ethic that is necessary to attain those goals. If players buy in to the culture then many players start to develop into leaders that are very helpful with teaching and leading by example. Businesses can thrive or die depending on the culture within a specific office, or business. Wins and losses at an elite level are used to measure success. However, they don’t necessarily define whether a healthy culture exists. A good example were the teams of Mike Bellotti. He established a great culture and had his teams playing at a high level when he stepped down as head coach. Another current example is Johnathan Smith, the rodents won’t win the Natty, but I respect that he is establishing a winning culture. A healthy culture leads to success, but not necessarily a National Championship.

We are now married, therefore it’s honeymoon time and everything is great. The new spouse is young and telling us that they want to add some spice into the relationship. Hmmm…I think I will stick around for awhile.

I respected Dye for his effort on the field. Guy played hard. However, Our RB room has reloaded and has some guys that will probably shine brighter. Speaking of getting a party started…it is one day late…but….Happy Birthday Coach Dan Lanning!

Thanks for the posting. This offense has the ability to put up some serious points with what should be above average play from our QB. A veteran laden OL, receivers and TE’s that could be among the best in the PAC 12 , and running backs that will put up solid numbers. This team oozes potential. I am optimistic about what these guys will achieve.

Step one to being a great coach….Recruit great players. Congrats to all involved.

Nobody is asking for money. Simply information. I am not aware of an organized effort to collect these types of donations for Oregon athletics.

You obviously can try to buy one. However, what happens if you don’t win? Will the big money boosters spend more, or fire the coach?

With a new coaching staff everyone is excited to see what they are getting on both sides of the ball. I am anxious to see this unfold as well. However, I can’t really say that a game against someone that you can beat by 50 points is a big learning experience. I have season tickets, but drive down from Portland. In a few years, after the coaching staff is settled in, I can’t really see myself getting that excited about battling traffic for a few hours to watch a game with a known outcome. I give some of my tickets away for those types of games during the season. What I want to know is how they match up against much better opponents. In my opinion, the team’s second string is a much better match up to watch, and more players get an opportunity to show their stuff.

Well…he looks good without any defenders harassing him. The Ducks need three solid QBs. Unfortunately, we probably have 3 QBs that would start at a lot of programs. I would fully understand if one decides to transfer this year. While I would wish them well, it would be aggravating to see that person light it up with another team. Mainly from the standpoint of having to watch so many balls thrown into the turf last year.

Ducks were winning under Mario. Apparently that wasn’t much fun. You always shoot for the perfect season, but there are many obstacles in any given year. Schedule, injuries, and bad coaching are a few reasons a season can go sideways. We’ve seen it happen first hand. However, even if the there are loses it is easy to tell if you have a good team, and good coach.

Justin has made me a Charger fan. Very fun to watch him play. His long ball accuracy is uncanny. Btw…The TD and total passing yard record that he broke were the Chargers single season records. Ironic that it was another Duck that finally surpassed Dan Fouts long standing record for total passing yards in a season.
