  1. Making playoff teams focus on the portal, player retention or release (next year stuff) and the freaking playoffs is about as dumb as it sounds. They really need to completely over hall the post season format and portal windows.
  2. I've been a big proponent of this idea. I think a 16 team playoff with a 16 team NIT would be a win win for everybody. Throw in economic incentives round by round and the players could stay motivated and the teams and fans get much more than a mere Tatter Tot Bowl invite.
  3. And it's not even really about 8 or 9 conference games but more about the scheduling format the conferences use. The BIG set up a format that ensures all 18 teams play each other home and away every 5 years. Some schedules may be more daunting than others any given year but the overall effect is equality. The SEC doesn't come close to this concept and instead goes to great length to avoid top tier match ups. I believe one of our SEC friends recently posted some outrageous facts about how few match ups certain teams have had in the last several years, You shouldn't be able to both avoid the top teams in your conference AND get credit for playing in a tough conference. Iowa had several close losses to several top twenty teams and are an after thought but many top SEC teams avoided most of each other. How do we know Iowa wouldn't be a playoff team with an SEC schedule? I think a component of conference tie breakers should be the conference winning percentage of the teams you beat followed by teams you lost to.
  4. Man I am hyped for the playoffs. At this time last year even though the Ducks were the number one team, they seemed to be limping in to the playoffs with ebbing momentum. We were hoping the poor defensive performance against PSU was a one off and chalking up the poor offensive performance at Wisky to late season fatigue. This year OBD appear to be rising to whatever challenge they face that week and getting better because of it. The run game is a legitimate problem and with the emergence of J Mac and Benson, the passing game is as well. The super frosh all over the roster have become focal points not mere spot fillers. Now we get to see what a full strength roster looks like with the super frosh hardened into seasoned vets. Have I mentioned how hyped I am? Can't wait until the 20th. Great article David. Go Ducks!
  5. I'd love to see a playoff of teams that think they were robbed of a playoff spot. It would be hysterical. Sit back and grab some popcorn as you watch SUC go down to Vanderbilt. Watch with glee as BYU shuts up Notre Dame. Fire up the BBQ as Texas finds a way to blow it against ACC champs Duke. By the time the dust finally settles only one team will have a legitimate complaint. The rest will be searching in the excuse drawer to find the perfect reason why they were robbed and if just a couple plays were different, they'd be national champions.
  6. The University is Spoiled Children was made for this poll.
  7. ACC Championships The Fighting Mario’s: 0 Guy fired for Mario: 1
  8. Campbell seems like a coach that's good at getting more out of less. That sounds great until you run into a team that gets more out of more. Currently The BIG has three teams that fit that role (tOSU Mich, OBD). There's also another coach (Cig) that is excelling at getting more from less right now. Has Campbell brought in top twenty classes before? How about top ten? Without them PSU is setting themselves up to be another Nebraska, Illinois fuskies or SUC that are all fighting to be that fifth best team while still remaining nationally irrelevant. Also putting yourself squarely in the middle of Lanning's cross hairs for no good reason wasn't a smart move.
  9. Got to give the rest of the country a fighting chance to compete. Jeez this team is going to be freaking awesome for years to come!
  10. With as stacked as this offense is set to be for the next few years, he could bring in anybody he wants.
  11. If he’s cranky at 0-2, he should ask the fuskies what 0-12 feels like or he can just wait and find out for himself.
  12. If J Mac's ridiculous catch had counted as it should have, that drive continues and the score may have looked more like what the game felt like. With that said I'll take four field goals by Sappington and all the confidence that comes with them over a padded score.
  13. I say the more rest and recovery the better. The Ducks with a fully restocked receiver room and a rested up O line and D will be as scary as anybody in the playoffs. Count me in.
  14. SUC fans getting high on that hopeium as we speak. Next year's next year will be even better than last year's next year!
  15. UM gets a two yard loss against tOSU setting up third and goal from the the five but nope. Personal foul UM for head butting the ref. First and goal from the two. Miraculously, UM holds and only gives up a field goal. UM leads 6-3.
  16. If Tosh leaves, I'd be just fine with Hampton being promoted to DC with a new LB coach being brought in.
  17. Heading back to the stadium that the Ducks lost their last road game over TWO seasons ago. This week's Ducks vs Them will be epic.
  18. I think the defensive strategy this year has been miss diagnosed as a poor pass rushing attack and over looks the suffocating monster that it has become. They are still getting good pressure on the QB but not with a ton of blitzes or gambling edges that lose contain. Instead QB scrambles and explosion plays have been nearly eliminated except for a couple long completions a game which can happen. It's football. USC was tailor made to make this defense to look bad with their ability to win 50/50 battles for catches yet were still held well below their season averages including points. With a mobile QB like the fuskies have, I think this D is exactly what they fear. Contained solid pressure up front with elite DBs sticking with receivers. I don't think UW or almost anybody has an answer for the Ducks run game. I'm looking forward to a methodical dismantling of the purple pups this week.
  19. The brain says just slide into the playoffs as #3 BIG team and get a home game but the heart screams back to back BIG champs in two years Hell yes!
  20. “Why you wearing black? Cause you’re going to a Trojan funeral”- Dan Lanning
  21. USC's #1 recruiting class is way over hyped. Some four and five star guys mixed in with a glut of three stars. There are only 22 positions so 34 recruits just means they recruited a bunch of backups to backups that will just portal out in a year or two anyway. Also that many roster additions will make it difficult to add many significant pieces from the portal. Meanwhile. OBD's recruiting class is small in number but loaded in star power allowing the Ducks to add more impact ready portal players if needed. Don't get me wrong I will greatly enjoy SUC riding the hype train to delusion town yet again only to have the bubble burst for the umteenth time post Carrol.
  22. Championship History SUC 1-1 OBD 0-2 UW 0-1 Not much to brag about for SUC fan. Everything thing else they flap their gums about is like pre Super Bowl Lions or Bears fans yapping about their glorious 40’s and 50’s runs.
