  1. Beyond pressure cooker, look how Mullins dealt with Greatwood, Cambell, and company. Baby&Bathwater, then if the offers were lowball.....Continuity&Brand my eye.
  2. It’s all words. In 2021, only actions and....eventually.. results mean anything
  3. I geeked out when he said “Principles” and “Old School”, and then lost all objectivity. I’m Gen X, and a natural cynic.. So, we’re probably screwed.
  4. All of us have dealt with managers, the lucky few have seen leaders. Some of you are leaders... The differences are the capability to have a compelling vision and the ability to bring others along in making that vision a reality. This requires the leader to have an understanding three things...: Purpose....why are we doing this, and why does it matter? Principles: The fundamental concepts and ideas that don’t change over time, They are not affected by circumstance. Practice: What we do, and when we do it.. And, with all that...what’s your vision? IMHO... Purpose Elevate and teach the skills and values required to succeed and advance in this world. We teach this first t in our student athletes, then our students, then our communities, then our nation. Tell me you haven’t taken life lessons from the Ducks. Principles: Hard Work-Duty over outcome....this is why WTD (Win the Day) was so meaningful. We don’t change how hard work regardless of criticism or praise..that is transitory. We work the same, hard. Next man Up: Everyone is invaluable, everyone is replaceable. Do what you can. It’s a game of inches....mind the details, don’t sweat the big stuff. These have been the same from Newt Rockney to Dan our Man. And finally: Practices for me.... the Boyd Cycle Observe your opponent Orient yourself to their point ov view Decide how to totally F’ their world up Do It, raw, fast and gnarly...repeat as fast as possible Practice through iteration....as fast as possible. Thoughts? Please, throw rocks and opinions... In he long run, these silly games matter..
  5. “We're going to move forward with our program by relying on old-school principals, some tough edge, but building with hard work, dedication, and toughness with a creative approach”. This!
  6. Interesting take on Oregon and the Lanning hire; both on the hire and how it was done. He also talks how the SEC builds teams and continuity in staff. Late Kick Live- SEC West
  7. I really liked the idea of bringing Chip home, but the thought of him on the field of victory ....on a cold and lonely November night....as 60k fans celebrate another 54-17 beat down of the huskies ....but....no Erin Andrews....she’s moved on to the NFL.....It’s too heartbreaking to bare. The new guy will be fine.
  8. Only if drama guy mainlined pure badass. Mullins deserves a Christmas card just for finding a coach that can deploy double neck veins. That’s correction, motivation, and encouragement at it essence.
  9. That was a Animal House ref. “Otis Loves Us....” ...next scene Dexter Lake Club as a juke joint
  10. Bellottii as AD was perfect. He maintained continuity in the program, and let Chip do the x’s and o’s while he took on the PR role of a head coach. Maybe there is something to that. there is something to the corporate structure where the board sets the strategic vision/governing philosophy (ideally) and handles the political relations...while the CEO executes the vision. Maybe more like Church Elders-head pastor, they set doctrine...the pastor makes it happen. A Patriarch .. don’t call it that. Ironically, this is where Cristobal was best suited. Hands off the play calling, but a life coach, mentor and Brand setter. 5 Star mom’s wanted him to adopt their babies. The Anti-Neuwiesel. Bellottii would be exceptional football elder..
  11. Gone, but not forgotten
  12. 1998 MSU - Oregon watch future Pac-10 Dean of Coaches Mike Bellotti and crew lay 48pts on some Nick Saban guy. MSU went on to spank Notre Dame the next Saturday. Enjoy

  13. Im still bitter how the coaching staff under Helfrich got flushed, not why, but how. Im also bitter how Taggart treated the teem under his watch; punitive workouts, etc. It was BS, unnecessary, and not in the best interests of student athletes.
  14. Ok, but...does anyone have that picture of Neuwiesel wearing Duck gear at Autzen? Just for jump scares and giggles.
  15. Erin Andrews has moved on to the NFL.
  16. Helf’s offenses continued to improve. Defense and QB development went from Excellent to WTH!? In 18 months.
  17. There is something systemically wrong with the traditional “blue bloods” (jeeebus, the irony of that phrase). Few coaches can fix that. UCLA 30 year highpoint was eeaking out wins against Bellotti’s Ducks. USC outside Pete Carols run has been mediocre. That says more about him than USC, talk about lighting in a bottle. Nebraska, UW, Miami, Florida, FSU, etc.....Unless you’re older than dirt...like me, they aren’t even has beens. This is why it’s a mistake to disparage Chip, and assume Oregon can/should/does operate like the “Blue Bloods”.
  18. Go look at his Twitter page as of 3:45pm this afternoon, Dec 7th. That isn’t business as usual, let the man go home.
  19. In defense of Chip Kelly: Look at his ability to adapt his play calling to his personel: from Roper to to Masoli to Mariota. He was excellent. Innovation: far from being a one hit wonder, he brought in new ideas and continued to evolve. This site’s bread and butter was the study of that. Unless NFL means National Frontal Lobotomy....uh, never mind... Chip didn’t just bring an offense to Oregon, but an entire regime for practice and prep. Those were lost immediately after he departed...and haven’t been seen since. His recruiting classes were excellent, only bested by Cristobal. Sanctions would have diminished that record, but thats not on Kelly’s recruiting ability....or ability to hire coaches who can. The big question is: what can he do as the giant, not as the giant killer. Oregon was built as a giant killer, 40 fun years of raising hell and causing Chaos....but Mario leveraged that into something completely foreign and unexpected by any of us oldsters. We are the giant...just a baby. It’s Unbelievable...actually. So the questions are; can Chip scheme against blue bloods with blue blood talent? (Seriously? It’s a stupid question , but we all seem to wonder). And...Can he continue to build off that talent? The assumption you can’t recruit sec talent to Eugene has been proven false....now what? Imo, we’d need to continue with NFL type line play to bring in NFL bound linemen... and bring in the best DC, and OCs with position coaches that have recruiting chops in SEC. Cristobal didn’t have secret sauce: he had pedegree, honesty, and work ethic....that alone recruits the right kids. Taggert's assistants with Kelly at the helm, not Taggart. It’s not unrealistic. Q. What could Helf had done with Taggert’s budget and no sanctions? Q2. What would Kelly had been able to do with a field goal kicker. 4 NC games?
  20. “. Risk is still part of the game plan, like it or not.” ...true this. Couple thoughts: Brooks turned the corner for the Ducks, but Bellottii established the brand. What’s worse than watching a Cristobal era Duck offense?...watching a Brooks era offense. But Brooks righted a ship that had foundered since Len Casinova (Before my time). Random thought: A coach with Cristobal’s W/L record..... Helfrich Cristobal laid an excellent foundation for his successor.
  21. “Now, how about hiring a HC who gives a whip about Oregon?” imho, Oregon divorced itself from that aspect of it’s identity when it s’ canned it’s entire coaching staff (giving up decades of commitment, loyalty, and continuity) while they were out recruiting, and severely hamstrung by ncaa sanctions. Only 4 years after getting to the NC game with a cobled together team. Once Oregon did this, they became just like USC/UW and the mediocrity was inevitable. Our “brand” isn’t enough to compete with them at a game where their’s isn’t enough. I hope I’m wrong, but keeping Mario was blind luck after Taggart. Oregon was built off continuity, grit, and the ability to develop talent. Cas, Brooks, and Bellotii alone accounted for nearly 50 years...almost half of college football history at the time. And, it was largely done, at least the foundation was laid, without Pk’$. fire Mullins.
  22. Consider the longterm outlooks for the state of Oregon, UofO, and the Pac12. Havana and Detroit. Recruiting coaches isn’t getting any easier.
