  1. We've been down here for 12 years the ASU football program has been gone from floundering to a dumpster fire.
  2. Yeah... but you say that only because you are a reasonable and rational person. There does not appear to be a lot of 'reasonable and rational' making the rounds these days.
  3. I think I'll start sending the Miami athletic department a dozen red roses every year on the anniversary of when Mario announced he was leaving Oregon.
  4. In your very first game as Oregon head coach. How many college football head coaches can say that the very first play they called was a time out... before the game had even started. I will never-ever forget that. Talk about a bad omen.
  5. The comedian Steve Martin used to say that he'd have been a great football coach by keeping the other team guessing because he'd regularly punt on first down.
  6. Civil - sĭv′əl - adjective "Of or relating to citizens and their interrelations with one another or with the state." "Courteous; obliging; well bred; affable; often, merely or formally polite; not discourteous." The Civil War is the ideal name. The other creative aspect about these two words being used together is that combined, they are really an oxymoron. When it comes to this game, especially when so much is on the line, there is very little "civil" going on in this "war."
  7. Of course he's going to talk to them. Not only is he an Arizona State alum, but he grew up and started his coaching career here as well (at 21 yrs old, he was hired as the offensive coordinator at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale -- which is an excellent football school). But as others have pointed out, Arizona State is a complete dumpster fire. And with the looming sanctions, it's likely going to get worse, if it ever gets better. However, the attraction of going home and having the opportunity to turn around your alma mater's football program has got to be very exciting and appealing. In addition, the expectations are likely going to be fairly reasonable given the mess he would be trying to clean up in Tempe. At age 32, my guess is that if Arizona State puts a reasonable offer out there for him to take over as head coach, and a strong budget for his assistant coaches, Kenny will be outta Eugene faster than stuff runs through a Christmas goose.
  8. I was at the Pac-12 Championship debacle last year (well... a debacle for us Ducks anyway). We had a small group of fun Utah fans around us, and we actually had a good time with them... even though the pain poured down on us :-). They were football knowledgeable, and they were also rather generously merciful to us. After the game was completely out of hand, I learned that Utah had never been to the Rose Bowl before. That actually took a little bit of the sting out of our beatdown. Every fan base needs at least one trip to the Rose Bowl. It is still quite the wonderful event.
  9. I don't think anybody is disagreeing with your statement, and few would want it any other way. But to Charles article, we can be very aggressive without running our QB multiple times per game, on high risk injury plays, straight up between the tackles. Particularly when our amazing O-line is opening up such great holes for our impressive running backs on short gain plays.
  10. Respectfully, I disagree with this comment. There are some really good football minds in this forum and I think many knew/know that everytime you run your QB between the tackles, the risk to your QB goes up exponentially. And I think almost all of us know that repeatedly going to that well, might just cost you your season. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." And as President Bush once so eloquently added (and im slightly paraphrasing, "Fool me three times... well, there just ain't gonna be a third time." I think Bo's third run between the tackles was the Huskies cheap-shot way of saying, "well, there just ain't gonna be a third time."
  11. They remind me a bit of the 39 year old Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley in regard to allowing themselves to, at times, make some bat-crap crazy decisions. All three of these coaches clearly have ridiculously high football IQs. Unfortunately, IQ has never-ever been a replacement for wisdom. And wisdom is gained by experience... which is always gained over time. The #1 thing I look for when hiring someone is: "Are they coachable?" I don't care what the position is or how old or how young the person is. I want to know if they are teachable and coachable. I think our coaches are coachable, want to be the best at their trade, and are willing to learn from those who know more than they do. I believe we have some very fine coaches who are in the process of becoming exceptional coaches. And hopefully, as they continue learning, their education does not come back to bite us in the backside. And holy crapoly... In their first year, we are 9-2!
  12. I'm waiting for us to once again get one, and preferably two, safeties like Cliff Harris who just "Lock $%it down."
  13. Frankly, I did not really want to see us play in the CFB. Although we've improved dramatically from week one, having seen what it looks like to play one of those top three teams, and based upon what we saw from our defense last night, I did not want to particularly see us play Georgia, Ohio State, or Michigan. The Rose Bowl would be amazing given this is Lanning's first year, etc. However, with that being said, obviously the Rose Bowl is far from a given. Arguably, we have our two toughest games of the season, next to Georgia, coming up over the next two weeks. We'll see how resilient our coaches and kids are.
  14. That was a poor no call. Good teams overcome stuff like that with defense that can stop a pass..
  15. Hey now... they only gave up 408 yards through the air.
  16. If we had made it into the college football playoffs, our secondary would have been sliced and diced even way worse than what Washington did tonight.
  17. We'd be eaten alive in the college football playoffs.
  18. Our D would be eaten alive by Georgia, Ohio State, or Tennessee.
