  1. Just got back from vacation mostly avoiding internet and news, then I come to this? WTH?! I figured the sheet would hit the proverbial fan somewhere while I was gone, maybe Ukraine or the stock market, not the Pac-12 in the offseason. Not happy.
  2. Come on, no-brainer as a Duck fan NOTHING is worse than losing to the Fuskies!!!
  3. OK this is a generational thing for sure, but my old football coach used to say (among other gems) "If I'm not yelling, it means I've given up on you." A little hyperbolic maybe, but nonetheless effective. Granted these are different times, but as long as the player isn't physically assaulted he should take his lumps (which Hutson did to his credit) for a dumbass personal foul that hurt the team. Yeah I'm a little old school, sue me.
  4. The bar is still set pretty high in my book, DL inherits a well-stocked cupboard. To me a successful season always starts with beating the Fuskies and the Beavers, then P12 Championship. A win over Georgia and/or a trip to the CFP makes it an exceptional one and of course a natty is the ultimate goal. Third time's a charm.
  5. OK George is saying a lot of the right things and I'm cautiously optimistic he's got this thing headed in the right direction. That said, he's got no real successes at this point. The so-called "Alliance" doesn't have any scheduling agreement and can't agree on CFP expansion, so it's pretty hard to call that much of a positive. GK's success (or failure) will be judged by the new TV deal, playoff expansion and in the meantime getting P12 teams into the existing CFP. Everything else is indeed "fluff".
  6. I think you can make a decent argument that black and white are neutral colors, so I guess I'm OK with it. Still prefer green/yellow combinations though. Love the recent "Nightmare Green" color, very dark but still in duck color spectrum at least. Just glad we're not seeing the gray/white schemes we saw during the Chip years.
  7. My top 5- Riley (only one with playoff appearances and conference championships). Whittingham (Steady Eddie, always competitive, utilizes talent well). Smith (does more with less than anyone in the league). Chip (living on past successes, but those still count I guess). Shaw (yeah I suppose running out of options) Up and coming- Jake Dickert Jed Fisch Train wreck- Herm Edwards
  8. We could play Utah in conference AND the P12 Championship, so I would rather beat Utah twice and lose a close one to Georgia in that scenario. If we're not in the P12 Championship I'd say Georgia for sure. We'll get plenty of shots at Utah down the road.
  9. Sounds very encouraging coming from a player unscripted. I'm not as down on MC as many here, but I can't ignore those letdown games (especially Utah twice) where the team just didn't look prepared or motivated. That falls on the coach and I just have to wonder if burn-out didn't play a role. To make hard work fun is what makes motivators on the field or on the job great. That said, it's spring and we're still in the honeymoon period. We'll see how morale holds up come November.
  10. Newspapers and print media in general are a dying breed, can't blame journalists for exploring other options. It's got to be tough for traditional journalists, anyone with an internet connection can gain a following. I never cared much for Canzano, but I have to admit he's mellowed with age and he is well-connected. He was spot on about Larry Scott and probably played a role in his ouster. Nemec and recruiting in general don't interest me too much except near signing day(s). So what if 2024 4* so and so puts Oregon in his top 10. Yawn.
  11. This is the key, barring any unlikely regulatory fixes. Nothing against these young men, but I'm still hoping a few multi-million dollar flops actually do cause a "market correction". That said, the skeptic in me agrees and we have a real fiasco on our hands.
  12. As all of us who've lost loved ones know, you can't make up the time you didn't spend with them. I'm glad Mario had the chance to say goodbye to her.
  13. One of my first teenage acts of rebellion back in the 70s. Dad was a hardcore Beaver fan, in fact took me to my first college football game, Civil War at Parker Stadium.
  14. Versus Stanford Oct. 2, 2010: Great family memory for me, my brother and I fished the Willy for steelhead that morning hooking up four and landing two, one right underneath the Autzen footbridge. Down 21-3 in the second quarter, we finally get a TD, then Chip goes for the onside kick--GAME ON!!! And who could forgot LMJ's soul-crushing run in the fourth to add the exclamation point.
  15. Yeah I'm with you, one of my best memories in Autzen watching the final seconds tick down knowing we're going to the Rose Bowl.
  16. Disappointing to say the least, but hardly unexpected. These clowns should run for congress, they'd fit right in.
  17. What about LaMike and Blount? I used to love watching the D get worn out chasing LMJ, then get bulldozed by Blount. I also loved JStew and JJ, they always seemed to complement each other. That said it's hard to make an argument against LMJ and Barner. Damn we had some great duos!
  18. Much respect for the team Whittingham put together this year. This was the team MC wanted but couldn't deliver. Now as far as mountains- Wasatch and Uintas are gorgeous, no argument there. But have you seen the Cascades from Mt Hood all the way to Crater Lake? Or Steens Mountain or the Wallowas? I'll give Utah a push at best. What Utah has hands down is the best red-rock desert in the world. From Canyonlands to Capital Reef to Bryce to Zion, one post-card view after another. I wouldn't mind retiring there.
  19. Funny when I saw the headline I assumed it was the Dolphins job he was taking. Seems like a lateral move at best considering he was on the short list for some head coaching jobs as well. Gotta hand it MC on this one.
  20. OK no lack of effort, but can they close the deal? I guess we'll see starting Monday.
  21. Can't say I blame him, best of luck in the NFL. Considering his injury past, I don't see how another year of wear and tear would improve his draft stock. Holy cow this is going to be completely different team next year. For better or worse, Lanning's stamp will be on this team from the get-go.
  22. I won't begrudge the life choices of a young man in his twenties. He gave every ounce while he was here, I wish him well (except of course if he plays the Ducks).
  23. Interesting manifesto, Jon. Don't see how this ever happens, especially since the "Alliance" doesn't really seem to agree on anything at this point. Gotta say though, limiting the transfer portal window is a no-brainer. It's only a matter of time before a playoff team that loses a star player to injury (or transfer for that matter) just buys one from another contender. Mid-season transfers with immediate eligibility combined with new NIL "rules" absolutely have the potential to destroy the sport.
  24. OK seriously, Greg Sankey as the co-chair of the "transformation committee" with Julie Cromer, AD at Ohio??? Yeah I'm sure she can keep him reined in (heavy sarcasm). As if the SEC doesn't already have enough power, WTH!
