  1. Hi Jon. What an interesting question. You should start a separate thread with this subject.

  3. FOOTBALL PRACTICE REPORT: APRIL 15 The Oregon football team passed the halfway point of this year's spring practice schedule on Saturday, and marked the occasion by holding the first scrimmage of this spring. Over about two hours Saturday morning, the Ducks began with position drills, progressed into larger groups and then held the first live-tackling drills of this spring with 11-on-11 scrimmage periods. And they did so in the friendly confines of Autzen Stadium. "It's just fun to practice where you play, and just create as much of a game environment as possible for our guys," head coach Dan Lanning said. "It's one of the best stadiums and venues in the nation. Any time we get to go in there and compete, it's fun for us." 5. HICKEY, VAN KLINKEN GET WINS AT MT. SAC RELAYS On the final day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational, the Oregon track and field team collected two wins, four top-10 program performances and 11 combined personal and season bests. Alysah Hickey and Jorinde van Klinken claimed victory in the long jump and discus, respectively. Making her season debut in the event, Hickey registered a winning mark of 6.71m/22-0.25 and moved from fourth to third on the program's all-time list. She becomes the third UO woman with a wind-legal measure beyond 22 feet, joining Jasmine Todd and Jenna Prandini on that short list. Hickey also moves to third on the NCAA list this season based on marks entering the day. The Women of Oregon were well presented in the competition with past UO standouts Todd and Rhesa Foster finishing in second and third, respectively. The Ducks got their second win of the day from van Klinken in the discus. The two-time NCAA champion posted a day's best of 64.45m/211-5 and bested an elite field that included fellow Oregon22 competitor Laulauga Tausaga-Collins. Van Klinken added two more 64-meter throws to her storied career docket. Shelby Moran added a top-10 program mark in the hammer Saturday afternoon. With a season best of 66.13m/216-11, she became the No. 3 performer in program history. Moran finished in eighth overall but fourth among collegians in the field. Four of Moran's five legal marks traveled farther than her old season best. Hickey, van Klinken Get Wins at Mt. 6. Ducks pick up prediction to land commitment from USC WR Gary Bryant Jr. It looks like some veteran playmaking could be on the way for the Oregon Ducks’ wide receiver room in the coming weeks or months. After entering the transfer portal and making a round of visits, former USC Trojans WR Gary Bryant is set to make a decision about where he will transfer in the coming weeks or months. On Saturday afternoon, 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins put in a prediction for Bryant to end up in Eugene. The Ducks have a handful of talented and experienced WRs, led by Troy Franklin, but outside of the top four guys — Franklin, Kris Hutson, Traeshon Holden, Tez Johnson — there isn’t a ton of depth at the position. Adding Bryant to the mix could be big for Oregon, as he could provide instant production to the offense. We will see in the coming weeks when he decides to announce his final decision. 7. Dan Lanning gives insight into freshmen running backs Dante Dowdell and Jayden Limar The Oregon Football program returns perhaps one of the nation's best running back duos in juniors Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington. Collectively last year, they combined for 1,837 yards rushing, 10 touchdowns while also adding 53 catches for four touchdowns and 468 yards. Oregon knows they've got two special backs manning the position going into the 2023 football season. Oregon added two big-time high school prospects in 2023's recruiting class in 4-stars, Dante Dowdell and Jayden Limar. How have those freshmen performed through the first half of spring ball? "Today's fun for me because we're not thud tempo; it's to the ground. So sometimes things that people think are tackles in practice, you really find out today," said Lanning after Oregon's eighth practice of spring and first scrimmage of spring ball. Dowdell in particular is a bruising running back that played over 220 pounds during his high school career. The Ducks liked his big-back play-making ability at the next level. Limar is a running back who, at the high school level, could play in the slot or as a running back, and the Ducks are looking for him to bring that play-making ability to the offense. 8. Twitter Reaction: Duck fans react to trio of players entering transfer portal The transfer portal officially opened up on Saturday in the world of college football, and Oregon Duck fans sure took notice. In the hours following Oregon’s first spring game of the 2023 spring season, a trio of notable players announced that they would be entering the portal and leaving Eugene. Among the three, the most surprising was arguably linebacker Keith Brown, a native Oregonian who was seemingly in line to see a significant role on defense this season. Just a couple of days ago, Brown told media members how much playing at Oregon meant to him, and explained that the love for the Ducks was why he had not entered the portal thus far in his three-year career. The other two players to enter the portal — CB Jalil Tucker and DT Treven Ma’ae — also came as somewhat of a surprise for Duck fans. A lot of Oregon fans and media members took to social media after the fact to react to the personnel moves for the Ducks. Here are some of the best tweets from the afternoon. 9. Major takeaways from Oregon's spring scrimmage, Day 1 transfer portal activity A lot happened on Saturday in the Oregon Ducks football world. The morning started with Dan Lanning and the Ducks going through their first scrimmage of the spring season taking place inside Autzen Stadium with select fans in attendance. The day ended with a trio of Oregon players announcing that they would be entering the transfer portal and leaving the Ducks. While media members were not allowed into the scrimmage to watch the team play, I have gotten the chance to talk to several people who were in attendance, and have some takeaways from the information that I’ve gathered. There are also several takeaways to be had from comments made by Lanning and TE coach Drew Mehringer, as well as the transfers that took place later in the day. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, let’s get into it. 10. PFPs Play Role in Fifth Win in a Row Of the multitudinous elements discussed and dissected into minutia by fans of the diamond sports, PFPs may very well be at the bottom of the list. Yet those fundamentals came into play in Saturday night's 5-2 win against Arizona State in front of 1,785 at Farrington Stadium. Starting pitcher Raegan Breedlove and No. 19 Oregon were staring down a bases-loaded, no outs dilemma in the bottom of the first. That's when Breedlove buckled down and let her defense go to work. On the next batter, the first ball in play was a grounder to Allee Bunker at second who threw to catcher Terra McGowan for the force at home. The following batter hit a ground ball to Tehya Bird at third. A run scored on the play, but the Ducks recorded the second out at first. Then it was time for PFPs. Breedlove snared a two-hop comebacker and threw to first to end the inning with no further damage. Raegan Breedlove, No. 18 Oregon softball clinch series win at Arizona State Oregon hit three RBI doubles and got a career-long pitching performance from Raegan Breedlove to clinch a series win over Arizona State. Five of eight hits by the No. 18 Ducks were doubles, including three with two outs, in a 5-2 win over the Sun Devils Saturday afternoon at Farrington Stadium. Breedlove (3-3, 3.00 ERA) allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits, two walks and a hit batter over 6.0 innings. It was one of the best career starts for the junior right-hander, who overcame a tough opening inning and settled in for Oregon (27-11, 7-7 Pac-12). 12. Another Gem Gives Ducks Series Win Through two games of their weekend series, Stanford's elite lineup has been no match for the Oregon baseball team's starting pitching. One day after Jace Stoffal's three-hit shutout of the No. 7 Cardinal, Logan Mercado also threw a complete game as the Ducks (24-9) won 8-1 before 2,322 fans in PK Park. Oregon's lineup hit three home runs for the second day in a row, the Ducks again played errorless defense and Mercado made it stand up by allowing one run on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. "Logan Mercado's bulldog mentality set the tone, and the guys in the dugout were just feeding off of his energy," UO coach Mark Wasikowski said. "It's just a ton of fun to be around these guys right now." Another Gem Gives Ducks Series Win - University of Oregon Athletics GODUCKS.COM Logan Mercado pitched Oregon's second complete game in two days against No. 7 Stanford on Saturday. Oregon secures series victory over No. 8 Stanford behind complete game from Logan Mercado Against the upper-tier Pac-12 competition, Oregon has followed a similar pattern in those matchups. In three game series' the Ducks have come away with game one wins, a closely contested loss in game two, and a game three blowout. It's happened exactly this way against No. 22 UCLA and last week against Oregon State. Saturday marked an opportunity for the Ducks to write a different story. Behind three home runs and a complete game by Logan Mercado, the Ducks did just that, taking down No. 8 Stanford 8-1 and securing a series victory. "I think last week, they (Oregon State) worked me really well and got me out a little earlier than I wanted to," said Mercado on his start. "I think this team was a good matchup for me, you know, played into my stuff well. I just had to execute pitches and mix them well. And luckily, that's what we did today and ended up getting a win."
