Social media reacts to Oregon Ducks brutal loss to Washington Huskies in Pac-12 Championship Game It wasn’t the outcome that the Oregon Ducks were hoping for, but it was one incredibly thrilling finale to the Pac-12 Conference as a whole. The No. 3 Washington Huskies beat the No. 5 Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship game, 34-31, clinching their spot in the College Football Playoff and completing a perfect 13-0 season. It started out rough for the Ducks, falling behind 20-3 in the first half. However, Bo Nix led the team to 21-unanswered points to take a 24-20 lead in the third quarter. From there, though, Michael Penix and the Huskies took control of the game and went on to win. Oregon scored a late touchdown on a bomb from Bo Nix to Traeshon Holden, but they were unable to stop the Huskies on the other end. It was a roller coaster of emotions for Duck fans on social media, who were down pretty bad in the first half, saw some major hope in the third quarter, and then ultimately crushed. One final Pac-12 football game marks the end of a storied conference As Dennis Erickson strolled out of Reser Stadium on a chilly Saturday evening in November, it finally hit him. This was the end. Erickson grew up watching Pac-12 football. He patrolled the conference’s sidelines for 15 years as a coach, including four at Oregon State. He relished the rivalries, treasured the traditions, cherished the West Coast’s unique brand of football that occupied a “special place in my heart.” So after he watched the Beavers dismantle Stanford last month, after he cruised Beaver Street at a newly remodeled stadium he indirectly helped build, Erickson took a moment as he walked away to privately acknowledge the end of more than a century of history. “I’m really having trouble with the whole thing, with the direction of college football,” Erickson said. “It really upsets me what’s going on and I thought a lot about it after the game. I’m bewildered with everything that’s going on. It’s just really sad.” Erickson sort of speaks for all of us today, a day that will be remembered as the end of Pac-12 Conference football... Jon Gold: The Ultimate Pac-12 Championship Preview Everything you need to know about Friday night’s Pac-12 Championship Game showdown between No. 3 Washington and No. 5 Oregon. The first time they met was arguably the national game of the year. Now as No. 3 Washington and No. 5 Oregon get set to square off the for the Pac-12 championship and likely the College Football Playoff berth that would emerge from it, it just may be the matchup of the century in the dying conference. What a way to go out. The 2 top teams in what was the country’s best conference from top to bottom, vying for the rarest of rare chances to compete for the national championship, a pursuit that has eluded the Pac-12 since the Huskies made it in 2016, 2 years after the Ducks went to the title game for the 2nd time in 5 years. They were separated by just 3 points and 3 ill-timed and poorly executed 4th down calls the last time they met, in Seattle for Washington’s 36-33 win. Calling it back-and-forth is an insult to see-saws. It was brutal. It was fun. It was innovative. It was a matchup made in heaven: Two terrific head coaches in Dan Lanning and Kalen DeBoer. Two brilliant offensive kinds in Will Stein and Ryan Grubb. Two all-time quarterbacks in Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. And now they’ll meet to decide it all. At stake is nothing less than a legacy, along with Pac-12 bragging rights for all eternity, not to mention one heck of a leg up as both teams head to the Big Ten next year. Oh, and there’s that pesky Heisman matchup to weigh, as Nix can put the finishing touches on his brilliant campaign with a decisive performance against the Huskies, while Penix can remind voters who was on top of the rankings for much of the year. So, yeah, there’s a lot at stake. Let’s dive in to this extra-special tale of the tape… Gold: The Ultimate Pac-12 Championship Preview SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM No. 3 Washington and No. 5 Oregon are set to square off the for the Pac-12 championship and the College Football Playoff berth...

Top storylines for Oregon's Pac-12 championship showdown with Washington Revenge. Vengeance. The entire Oregon program has known that this day was coming. The trip to the Pac-12 championship was always still in place after the Ducks fell short in that 36-33 heartbreak against the rival Huskies back in October. That hard-fought showdown foreshadowed what many assumed would be the eventual conference title game. A back-and-forth contest with a couple of failed risky decisions meant the game relied on Camden Lewis to send it into overtime. The struggling senior kicker missed from 43 yards out and the anticipation started then for the Ducks wanting another shot at the Huskies. Both teams have won out since that game but by vastly different margins. The Ducks took that loss on the chin but did not hang a head. Instead, it was an improvement in effort, intensity and mindset that helped Oregon on its dominant six-game win streak. The average margin of victory during the span was 26 points. Meanwhile, Washington started facing some struggles... Top storylines for Oregon's Pac-12 championship showdown with Washington OREGON.RIVALS.COM Revenge. Vengeance. No. 5 Oregon Clashes With No. 3 Washington in the Pac-12 Championship The Ducks smell blood in the water ahead of Friday night's game in Las Vegas. No. 5 Oregon (11-1, 8-1 in Pac-12 play) will have to beat the only team they’ve lost to all season, No. 3 Washington (12-0, 9-0 in Pac-12 play), in order to clinch a college football playoff berth for the first time since 2014. This will be the first top-five matchup in the historic rivalry between these two programs and the first time both teams are playing each other for a Pac-12 Championship. Oregon is 4-1 in Pac-12 Championship games, while Washington is 2-0. The only other time two top-five ranked Pac-12 teams faced each other in a Pac-12 Championship was in 1976 between No. 3 USC and No. 2 UCLA, a game the Trojans won 24-14. Since Oregon’s 36-33 loss to Washington in October, the Ducks have won six straight games while averaging a point differential of 26 points. In the loss, the Ducks failed to convert on key fourth downs and missed field goals which ultimately resulted in a three-point loss to the Huskies. “I just think the whole operation as far as making explosive plays, staying on the field on fourth downs,” quarterback Bo Nix said. “I think that's where, you know, ultimately we lost last time. And I think we have been more prepared now.”... To access the details in the article, click here.
