  6. Where the Ducks' 2024 class ranks nationally after major signing day haul The Oregon Ducks were once again one of the biggest winners of the early signing period, putting pen to paper for 25 recruits in the 2024 class and flipping a pair of blue-chip recruits away from rivals Ohio State and USC. On top of that, Dan Lanning officially made history by signing the best recruiting class in school history, passing the mark that was set by Mario Cristobal back in 2021. There’s a chance that the class gets better as well, with 4-star DL Jericho Johnson announcing his commitment on Thursday, where the Ducks are a heavy favorite to be the benefactors. Oregon is also recruiting 4-star WR Gatlin Bair with great persistence, though his commitment won’t be announced until the late signing period in February. So after all of the drama and fireworks on Wednesday, where to the Ducks stand nationally in the 247Sports national team rankings? Here’s an updated look... 7. Dan Lanning highlights impact current players like Troy Franklin, Tez Johnson have on recruiting After the drama and fireworks of Dan Lanning’s first signing day as an Oregon Duck in 2022, I don’t think many fans expected the start of the 2023 early signing window to be quite as eventful. But, Dan Lanning and Co. had other plans, and they turned in the highest-rated recruiting class in Oregon Ducks history, with more commitments potentially still to come. After the success of Wednesday morning, Lanning spoke to the media in the afternoon to talk about signing day and the new additions. Lanning was asked how much elite skill players like Troy Franklin, Tez Johnson, and Terrance Ferguson impact Oregon’s ability to recruit new talent out of high school. “Yeah, huge. I mean, I think early on when you come to a program, you tell people what you hope to do. Right?” Lanning said. “And after you’re able to have a couple of seasons, you can point to what you have done. 8. Ducks widely considered one of biggest winners on early signing day Dan Lanning and the Duck cleaned up on National Signing Day with some saying this is the best class in program history after it landed inside the top-5 nationally for the first time ever. Of course, only time will determine if that plays out, but according to the ratings, Oregon was No. 1 in the Big Ten, jumping in front of new rival Ohio State after Lanning was able to flip wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan from the Buckeyes, which turned a lot of heads. Later in the day, Oregon also flipped 4-star WR Ryan Pellum from the USC Trojans, picking up another win over a conference foe. The Ducks aren’t here to play. Several outlets nationally took notice, with several naming Oregon as one of the big winners on signing day. Here’s what ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren had to say... 21. BREAKING: 4-star WR Ryan Pellum flips from USC Trojans to Oregon Ducks One firework show apparently wasn’t enough for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks. They got the spatulas out and flipped another one. On Wednesday afternoon, 4-star WR Ryan Pellum announced that he would be flipping his commitment from the USC Trojans to the Ducks. The 247Sports Composite rates Pellum as the No. 99 overall player in 2024, and the No. 19 WR in the nation. He gives a big boost to the Ducks’ 2024 class, which is ranked inside the top 10 in the nation. Pellum is the second wide receiver to flip to the Ducks on Wednesday, with former Ohio State WR Jeremiah McClellan announcing earlier in the day that he would be signing with the Ducks instead of the Buckeyes. The Ducks have been recruiting Pellum for a long time and the Millikan High School star from Long Beach, California, was also fond of the Ducks during that process. Ultimately the efforts from Lanning and wide receivers coach Junior Adams were enough to persuade the blue-chip pass-catcher to flip to the Ducks. Ryan Pellum is also the nephew of Don Pellum, a former Oregon coach who spent 23 seasons in Eugene, primarily as a linebackers coach... Oregon Recruiting: 4-star WR Ryan Pellum flips from USC to Oregon DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM The Oregon Ducks landed a commitment from 4-star WR Ryan Pellum, who flipped from the USC Trojans.
  22. Oregon lands verbal commitment from All-Big-12 Safety Kobe Savage The Oregon Ducks needed to shore up their depth at the safety position after seniors and starters Evan Williams and Steve Stephens used up their final year of eligibility. After landing the commitment from one of the best safeties in the Big 12 Conference this past season, the Ducks have taken a big step in that direction. Kansas State senior safety Kobe Savage has announced he will transfer to Oregon for his final year of college football. Savage was on campus this weekend for an official visit after entering the transfer portal earlier this month. At Oregon, Savage will have one final year of eligibility to use. He is expected to compete for the starting spot vacated by Evan Williams following the Fiesta Bowl. Savage is considered to be a safety similar to Evan Williams in that he's really good against stopping the run, a ball-hawk safety who's not afraid to hit a receiver, comes across the middle and has the size and the strength to cover bigger tight ends. The 5-foot-11 safety from Paris, Texas, started his college career at the JUCO level, where he played at Tyler Junior College. Here is what our Kansas State site included about Savage when he elected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal... 23. SIGNED: 4-star wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan is officially a Duck Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have been racking up confirmed commitments all morning, as players across the country sign their national letters of intent. But, 4-star wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan just became the first recruit to flip his commitment from another school to sign with the Oregon Ducks. McClellan has been committed to Ohio State since the summer of 2023, but as of late, buzz picked up that McClellan might flip his commitment. The 247Sports Composite has McClellan rated as the No. 13 WR and the No. 49 player overall. He is also the third highest-ranked Ducks’ recruit, behind 5-stars Aydin Breland and Elijah Rushing, making him the top offensive prospect in the Ducks 2024 class. With star WR Troy Franklin headed off to the NFL, Oregon needs replacements at WR. Tez Johnson will likely fill the WR1 role in 2024, with Gary Bryant Jr., Traeshon Holden, and Jurrion Dickey filling in the next few spots on the depth chart. That doesn’t leave a ton of room for McClellan in year one, but he’ll have plenty of time to develop and potentially become a top-three WR in year two. Here are McClellan’s highlights... 25. Walter Nolen announces top two schools in transfer portal recruitment It’s down to Dan Lanning and Lane Kiffin. Prized defensive end Walter Nolen, who has spent the last two seasons at Texas A&M, tells On3 that he has widdled down his choices to Oregon and Ole Miss for the school he plans to play for next. For the past two years, Nolen has been one of the top defensive ends in the SEC and the country and when he announced he would be entering the transfer portal, schools basically lined up for his services. Fortunately, the Ducks and Dan Lanning were one of just a few schools that were granted a visit and since Oregon has made the final cut, that visit must have gone well... Oregon is still alive in Walter Nolen sweepstakes DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon is still alive in Walter Nolen sweepstakes as he has the Ducks and Ole Miss as his Top 2 destinations.
