Oregon Ducks, Oregon State Beavers bring high stakes, murky future into 127th rivalry game The Oregon-Oregon State football series started on a chilly November Saturday in 1894 at a field situated east of Community Hall in Corvallis. The “Lemon-Yellows” had arrived by train from Eugene and were “warmly received” as they cruised into Oregon Agricultural College to play a new sport many were calling gridiron football, an ode to the design of the lines on the playing surface. Oregon Agricultural College, whose mascot was a coyote named Jimmie, beat the Lemon Yellows handily, 16-0, in front of no spectators. Afterward, the teams meandered over to Alpha Hall, the women’s dormitory, where they shared a postgame meal. Oh, how things have changed... Michigan State eyeing top target to replace Mel Tucker The Michigan State Spartans football team is closing up shop on a drama-filled season that saw former head coach Mel Tucker fired after allegations of sexual harassment surfaced. Harlon Barnett has replaced Tucker as the Spartans’ head coach, leading the team to a mere 2-7 record. He is not an option for the full-time gig as Michigan State Athletic Director Alan Haller searches for a full-time option. According to this note from John Brice of Football Scoop, Haller and Co. have one primary target in mind. Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith has emerged as a top option in East Lansing. The report goes on to note that MSU has also spoken to Mike Elko from Duke, Toledo’s Jason Candle, North Carolina State’s Dave Doeren and Pat Narduzzi of Pittsburgh. Oregon Picks Up Two New Predictions to Land Elite DL Jericho Johnson The Ducks continue to trend for the No. 1 uncommitted defensive lineman in the 2024 class. 2024 Fairfield (Calif.) Armijo defensive lineman Jericho Johnson is continuing to trend to Oregon. On Wednesday morning, 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong and National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman both placed crystal ball predictions for Johnson to commit to Oregon. Johnson is listed at 6'4", 300 pounds and is one of the best defensive linemen on the in the country, earning distinction as an Adidas All-American. A source confirmed to Ducks Digest on Tuesday that he will visit Oregon this weekend for the Ducks' rivalry game against Oregon State. The trip will be an unofficial visit. I placed my prediction for Oregon to land Jericho Johnson on October 3... To access the details in the article, click here. -
Kirk Herbstreit Thinks 1-Loss Team Is Lock For Playoff If They Win Out Kirk Herbstreit is high on one team's chances to make the College Football Playoff if it wins out. Herbstreit thinks Oregon, which is currently No. 6 in the latest CFP rankings, is a lock for the CFP if it wins out... "You win those two games, and Oregon is going to be in the playoff. They deserve to be at that place right now," Herbstreit said on Tuesday. Oregon is set to play No. 15 Oregon State on Saturday as part of "rivalry week." If Oregon wins, it'll improve to 11-1 and advance to the Pac-12 Championship Game to play No. 4 Washington. Both wins could be enough to get the Ducks into the CFP since they'd be 12-1 overall. To get to that second game though, the Ducks will have to win this first one on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET. To access the article, click here.

Pac-12 QB Power Rankings entering Week 13: Rivalry Week gives Heisman platforms to Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr. Welcome to Rivalry Week, where all eyes will be on the Pacific Northwest. Washington battles Washington State in the Apple Cup seeking an unbeaten regular season. Oregon battles Oregon State in the Civil War seeking a berth in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Michael Penix Jr. vs. Bo Nix, Pt. 2. We’re one Oregon win away from a conference title clash that could sway the Heisman Trophy race. Nix is currently locked in a two-man race with LSU’s Jayden Daniels. Daniels’ LSU Tigers won’t play in their conference’s title game, and they’re playing an otherwise meaningless game this upcoming Saturday. Heisman voters tend to be pretty reactionary. Remember, on Oct. 14, the trophy was awarded to Penix for outdueling the Ducks inside Husky Stadium. In the month since, Penix has completely been cut out of the conversation. That can change over the next two weeks. A signature moment against a hated rival to capture the program’s second-ever 12-0 regular season? That’ll do it. Of course, Nix will have another national stage against a top-25 team this Friday when Oregon hosts Oregon State. Nix is the favorite if you ask me. He’s exceptional, just like Daniels. But unlike Daniels, Nix has the Ducks in the Playoff discussion. He has the Ducks positioned to play for a conference title. That should matter. If he can lead Oregon to two more wins, I think it will matter. Lots still to be settled as the final week of the regular season approaches. Where Oregon's defense ranks nationally in key statistics after win over ASU Had it not been for a couple of late scores from Arizona State long after the starters had been pulled from the game for the Oregon Ducks, the stats from this contest could have looked pretty unbelievable. As it stands, Oregon only gave up 13 points to the Sun Devils, zero of which came in the first half of the game. At this point of the season, it’s become pretty clear that the Ducks have one of the better defenses in the nation, ranking near the top of the list in some key statistics that we routinely point toward in order to determine overall success. Wondering How Our Pro Ducks are Doing?
Pennsylvania Duck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
How the Oregon Ducks performed in Week 11 of the NFL While the college football regular season only has one week left, the NFL still has seven weeks before playoffs start. All that means? More opportunities for Pro Ducks to stand out. The standout former Oregon Duck this week was — unsurprisingly – Justin Herbert. While his team lost, and he didn’t post the best completion percentage, he threw several passes that were dropped that could’ve changed the game. Pro Football Focus gave him the highest QB grade of the week at 92.7. Another standout was Kayvon Thibodeaux, who now has 10.5 sacks on the season — tied for fifth in the NFL. Last year, Thibodeaux had only four sacks and has clearly broken out in year two. Below, is a check-in with each of the Oregon Ducks in the NFL... 3 Reasons Why The Oregon Ducks Will Defeat The Oregon State Beavers This Weekend On Saturday, the battle for college football supremacy within the state of Oregon will take place as the #6 Oregon Ducks take on the #15 ranked Oregon State Beavers. This rivalry between Oregon and Oregon State started back in 1894. Oregon has outdone Oregon State historically in this series with a record of 67-49-10. Ever since their heartbreaking loss to Washington, Oregon has been a nightmare for Pac-12 opponents. They easily walloped the Arizona State Sun Devils 49-13 on Saturday. Their impressive performances as of late definitely forced the College Football Playoff Selection Committee to keep them in the mix as the season winds down. However, Oregon State will not be an opponent that Oregon will easily roll through. Last Saturday, they nearly knocked off the #4 Washington Huskies. Oregon State has no conceivable chance at either the College Football Playoffs or a Pac-12 title. Therefore, they would relish the opportunity to spoil Oregon’s chances at a College Football Playoff bid. Oregon has something to lose, while Oregon State has nothing to lose. Despite this, I believe that Oregon will pull off the victory over its interstate rivals. They are superior on both sides of the ball. Given how they bounced back after losing to Washington, I believe they are a team of destiny. The oddsmakers are also in agreement that Oregon will beat Oregon State. FanDuel Sportsbook has Oregon as a 13.5-point favorite, while BetMGM has Oregon as a 14-point favorite. In this piece, I will give three reasons why Oregon will defeat Oregon State in this rivalry game... To access the details in the article, click here.

3 Reasons Why The Oregon State Beavers Will Defeat The Oregon Ducks This Weekend It is here. Civil War week. The final one is for the foreseeable future as Oregon State is still unsure of its schedule, and Oregon heads to the Big Ten. This is going to be an epic Civil War. Not only is it the final one in the Pac-12 era, but there is SO much on the line here for the Ducks. Oregon is in a pretty good spot right now to try and sneak into the College Football Playoff. They may be on the outside looking in, last at number six before their win over Arizona State. A win against Oregon State will catapult them to the Pac-12 championship game in Las Vegas to take on the Washington Huskies. The same Huskies that defeated them a few weeks ago. The importance of that game can’t be understated. While no Pac-12 team currently has a spot in the College Football Playoff, an Oregon win in that game would round out a really impressive schedule with just one loss. At that point, Michigan or Ohio State will each have a loss. Florida State lost its starting quarterback, and they still have to play Florida and whoever will be their opponent in the ACC championship game. There is no reason a Pac-12 team should be left out of the CFP, but Oregon has to at least get to the conference championship game first, and Oregon State could ruin that. Let’s not forget that these two teams despise each other. We recently wrote about the game’s history and included some epic stories about the rivalry. In the latest AP Poll, this game will feature #15 vs #6, and there is no reason that the 15th-ranked Beavers can’t pull off the upset. Here are three reasons why the Beavers will spoil the season of the Oregon Ducks... 3 Reasons Why The Oregon State Beavers Will Defeat The Oregon Ducks This Weekend OREGONSPORTSNEWS.COM It is here.
