College Wire's Pac-12 writers make their Week 13 selections It’s Rivalry Week in the Pac-12 and in many of the other conferences and unfortunately, most of these games aren’t supposed to be toss-ups. There is one clear favorite in all of these games, but as we all know, you can throw the records out when a rivalry is concerned. There’s still plenty to play for as the regular season ends. Washington has already clinched a spot in the Pac-12 title game with Oregon and Arizona still needing a win. If the Ducks beat the Beavers, they’re in and will get that much-awaited rematch with the Dawgs. Arizona needs the Ducks to lose and defeat the Sun Devils in order to go to Las Vegas. According to the writers here at the College Wire sites that cover the Pac-12, the conference title game, the last championship game, will have as much riding on it as ever before. Here are our selections... Where Oregon's offense ranks nationally in key stats following win over ASU As the season has gone one, we’ve got a clearer and clearer picture as to who the best teams in the nation are. That’s given us a great idea as to who the best offenses in the nation on. It’s not hard to see that the Oregon Ducks are one of them. Across the board, no matter which statistic you wish to look at, Bo Nix and Will Stein are putting on a master class in scoring points, and they continually are making it look easy. This past week, Nix had six touchdown passes in the first half, tying an Oregon record, while the Ducks blew out the Arizona State Sun Devils. Here’s a look at where they rank nationally in some key statistics after Week 12... 5 Beavers the Ducks need to pay close attention to in Civil War Although last week’s loss to Washington took Oregon State out of the running for the Pac-12 title, there’s nothing they want more than to knock the Ducks out of, not only a chance at a conference championship but also a College Football Playoff appearance as well. Oregon has plenty on the line as the Ducks prepare for the Civil War (5:30 pm, Fox) at Autzen Stadium. With a win, they’ll head to Las Vegas with the intention of avenging the only loss of the season to the Huskies. Whether this will be the last Civil War in quite some time remains to be seen as the two schools are trying to work out a plan to meet since the Pac-12 is dissolving. The Beavers are 8-3 on the season and ranked 15th in the country and will be a formidable opponent, just as Oregon found out last season when OSU rallied for a 31-10 deficit to upset the Ducks. Here are the five Beavers Oregon needs to pay close attention to in order to ensure it plays for the conference title the very next week... 5 Beavers the Ducks need to pay close attention to in Civil War DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon State still has plenty to play for in this year’s Civil War, including being a spoiler to Oregon’s playoff hopes.

Dan Lanning says 2022 loss in Corvallis still 'resonates' with this year's team Oregon coach Dan Lanning made it clear on Monday night that his team hasn't forgotten what took place a year ago in Corvallis. The Beavers remain the only obstacle standing in the this team's way of a Pac-12 Championship Game appearance. Discarding the team's in-state rival will mean learning from last season's shortcomings. “It resonates with every single one of us, and it’s certainly not far from our mind," Lanning said of the 38-34 loss to the Beavers to close the 2022 regular season. "They’re a good team. We’ll have to play really well to compete against them, and you’ve got to play an entire game." The Ducks built a 31-10 lead midway through the third quarter, only for the Beavers to claw their way back for an improbable win. The defeat knocked the Ducks out of the conference championship game, making way for Utah to meet USC in Las Vegas. Very little went right for the Ducks after Camden Lewis hit a field goal to create the 21-point cushion. The Ducks turned it over multiple times, experienced special teams gaffes, and most frustratingly were unable to stop the Beaver rush attack... There's a new No. 1 QB in the Pac-12 according to PFF's grades Everyone is hoping for that rematch between Oregon and Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Vegas Dec. 1. The winner will not only win the conference, but they will probably earn a trip to the College Football Playoff as well and that quarterback will also be the leading candidate to win college football’s most prestigious award. But as with so many things these days, the Cougars and Beavers stand in the way of all of that happening. Here are the QB rankings heading into Rivalry Week... 10 things I'm absolutely overreacting to after Week 12 in the Pac-12 After UCLA’s resounding and rewarding 38-20 win over USC, it’s not about our overreaction, but possibly Martin Jarmond’s. Will he overlook some very serious concerns and retain his beleaguered head coach after one of the most lopsided matchups in the history of the cross-town rivalry? Will USC look at a similar set of concerns and reign in Lincoln Riley? Now that would be an overreaction. But here are a handful more after a truly memorable penultimate weekend of the 2023 regular season… 10 things I’m absolutely overreacting to after Week 12 in the Pac-12 SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM What would be the bigger overreaction after UCLA's surprisingly easy win over hated USC? Oregon Ducks jump ahead of Alabama in national championship betting odds We’re coming down to it in the world of college football, and with rivalry week followed by conference championship week, some major things are going to be decided over the next 14 days. Spots in the College Football Playoff are up for grabs, as are spots in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony. If you’re a fan of the Oregon Ducks, both of those things are extremely relevant. With a pair of wins over the next two weeks, it’s incredibly likely that the Ducks can achieve both and play in their second-ever playoff. Should Oregon get a spot in the playoff, there’s a decent chance that they will be favored to win their first game, as well, with a good shot in the championship game against whomever they should face. On Sunday, we looked at the updated odds for the Heisman Trophy, where Oregon QB Bo Nix leads the way. Now let’s take a look at the odds of winning the national championship, courtesy of FanDuel SportsBook... What to Expect From Oregon Between Now and the Early Signing Period The Ducks have the No. 6 class in 2024 and are pushing for a top-five finish. We're officially one month away from the early signing period. The Ducks have the No. 6 class in the country and there's still some big targets on their board. Let's check in on where things are at and what Oregon fans can expect between now and the early signing period. Between now and the early signing period Oregon will have one big weekend where they try to bring in as many verbal commits as they can, along with their top remaining uncommitted targets. Commits are often times your best recruiters, so one could see the obvious value there. I would expect this weekend to come in December, probably the 14th through the 16th. It's also worth noting that if Oregon makes the Pac-12 title game they won't be in Eugene to host recruits the first weekend of December. Obviously they want to be playing in Las Vegas, but that would make the following weeks that much more important. To find out who the Ducks are targeting, click here.

Ranking Oregon's top 10 players vs. ASU according to PFF grades When you play as well as the Oregon Ducks did on Saturday afternoon in a 49-13 blowout win over the Arizona State Sun Devils, the grading process is bound to go pretty smoothly. Oregon was dominant from start to finish, putting up six touchdowns on six drives in the first half, and overall just suffocating the ASU offense all day long. It gave us another incredible Bo Nix day, while records fell across the board. As we do each week, let’s take a look at the grades from Pro Football Focus to see which players had the best performances according to their advanced metrics... Column: In the Heisman Trophy race, how important should a win-loss record be? In the world of sports, and in college football particularly, that question seems to have an obvious answer. Winning is the most important thing. Winning keeps your team alive. Winning puts fans in the stands. Winning separates the haves from the have-nots. Winning is the one single measure of success that matters at the end of the day. Why shouldn’t that be the same thing when it comes to the Heisman Trophy conversation? As we enter the back half of November, and the talk surrounding conference championships, bowl games, the College Football Playoff, and yes, the Heisman Trophy, starts to heat up, this is a debate that is only going to get louder, so prepare yourself. With just three weeks until the most historic piece of bronze hardware is given out to the “best player” in college football on December 9th in New York City, we seemingly have our finalists for the award set and ready to go. Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix. LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels. Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr... All three players have had historic seasons, and all three can easily possess the argument that they’ve been, at times, the best players in college football. The stats are there. The “Heisman moments” are there. The flash, and glamour, and fan adoration is there. Is the winning there? For two of them, the answer is yes... Column: In the Heisman Trophy race, winning should matter DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM When deciding on who wins the Heisman Trophy, taking win-loss record into consideration should be just as important as overall...
