  2. Projecting Ducks 2023 depth chart following first week of fall camp The first week of fall camp is now behind us in Eugene, and the Oregon Ducks are full steam ahead going into the 2023 season. While media members have not had a chance to watch practices yet, through interviews with both coaches and players, we’ve got a good sense of players who are standing out and making a big leap following the offseason. We are less than a month away from the first game of the year on September 2 against the Portland State Vikings, so Dan Lanning and his staff have to be formalizing a depth chart and seeing which players work the best with each unit on the squad. Though we won’t know the starters until that first Saturday in September, here is our projection for Oregon’s depth chart following the first week of fall camp. 3. ‘You can’t coach fast’: Oregon track star Micah Williams joins Ducks football team Last month, Oregon track and field star Micah Williams tweeted he wanted to play football. Less than a week into fall camp, the reigning Pac-12 100-meter champion was on the field with the Ducks. Williams, whose nickname is “Quad-Good Gosh,” caught punts and worked with the receiving corps Tuesday afternoon at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex. The desire he expressed three weeks earlier, which Oregon coach Dan Lanning said he would “explore” with track and field coach Jerry Schumacher, has become a reality. “Micah wanted to play football and we want to give him a chance to see if he can,” Lanning said. “It’s been a long time; he hasn’t really played since his freshman year in high school. But you can’t coach fast and he’s fast. We’ll see what he’s able to do out there for us.” The article has much more info... ‘You can’t coach fast’: Oregon track star Micah Williams joins Ducks football team WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Micah Williams will try to become the latest sprinter and football player in Oregon history, joining the likes of Devon Allen and...

  5. What's Next at Cornerback For Oregon After Landing Dakoda Fields Demetrice Martin sent another statement on the recruiting trail and may not be finished. Oregon is ascending back up the recruiting rankings after landing a commitment from 2024 Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields on Monday. He flipped his pledge away from the USC Trojans and the Ducks seem to have recaptured some important momentum on the trail. With Fields in the fold, Oregon has now has two cornerback commits--with the other being 2024 Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy corner Ify Obidegwu. Both players are long defensive backs, measuring in at 6'2" and 6'1" respectively, making them ideal fits in Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi's defense. But are the Ducks finished at corner? They could be, but I don't think they necessarily are. To find out who the Ducks may be interested in, click here.

  9. Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith wants more information before continuing Oregon Ducks series Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith needs more information before deciding whether it’s a good idea for the Beavers to continue their football rivalry series with Oregon. The sixth-year OSU coach repeated what athletic director Scott Barnes said last week after the Ducks decided to accept an invitation to join to the Big Ten Conference beginning in 2024. “It’s to be determined. We’ve got to figure out what this thing looks like moving forward. Once we get to that point, then we’ll make decisions on that,” Smith said after Tuesday’s practice. 13. Fall Ball Takeaways: Phil Knight and Rob Mullens watch on as Ducks add speedy WR to roster The Oregon Ducks have been underway in the 2023 college football season for a week now, but Tuesday afternoon was the first time that media members were allowed to watch for the first 20 minutes of the session. With a whole host of new players coming to town since spring ball ended, this offered a chance to see some of the new freshmen on the roster, and a handful of transfers that committed to the Ducks since the spring game. There was one addition to the roster on Tuesday that came as a surprise, with Oregon adding one of the fastest men in all of college athletics as a walk-on. With a chance to talk to head coach Dan Lanning, linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, and wide receiver Kyler Kasper later this afternoon following the practice, we will have more coming out this evening about the Ducks’ continuation of fall camp. 14. Tony Tuioti relishes chance to coach his son Teitum True freshman Teitum Tuioti has had a unique path to getting to college football and Oregon. He started his prep career in Nebraska for Lincoln Southeast where his Dad coached at Nebraska. After his father Tony took his current job with Oregon, Teitum followed his Dad last fall and enrolled at Sheldon high school in Eugene. In Eugene, the younger Tuioti turned into a star recruit as he led the Irish to a second-place finish at the 6A level and he was named a 2023 Polynesian Bowl All-American. Teitum went from a 3-star recruit into a 4-star prospect that was viewed as one of the best edge defenders on the west coast in the class of 2024. Now at Oregon, father, and son are enjoying a unique experience as they work together to win a Pac-12 Championship for the same program. "Just seeing him every day. You know, as a dad, in this profession, you miss a lot," said Tony of being able to now be around his son every day and coach him. "Just being around your kids and not being able to see them but to see him in the building and see him in meetings and, you know, see him out of practice. It's a really, really cool experience." 15. Former Nebraska transfer Casey Rogers weighs in on Oregon's move to the Big Ten In the wake of Oregon's move to the Big Ten, former Nebraska defensive lineman, now Oregon defensive lineman Casey Rogers provides his thoughts on the move. It's not often a player will transfer out of a conference only to find their new team is moving back to where they came from. For Oregon defensive lineman Casey Rogers, he finds himself in that tiny iota of players. For Rogers, though, he won't be able to join the Ducks as they pioneer into the Midwest and Big Ten country. Following the 2023-2024 season, Rogers will be out of eligibility, but that doesn't change the four years he spent in the Big Ten as a member of Nebraska, and it doesn't change his knowledge of the conference. Rogers spent the majority of his collegiate career navigating through the Big Ten, playing in 14 games, including the pandemic shortened 2020 season. Rogers recorded 42 tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks in "big boy" football. The move by Oregon to the Big Ten may not have surprised some, but for the fan bases, it certainly shocked the masses. Despite the shock of the move, Rogers, during a media session on Monday night, added some perspective for the fans of what this move will mean from their lens. "What this is really tough on the next few weeks is our assistant coaches. They'll be on the road, away from their wives, kids, because they're going to be on the road recruiting. And when they get back, they'll be hosting recruits. We're really grinding until we get to July. Once we get to July, we'll take a deep breath." Meet Oregon's top-10 2024 class... 17. Where Autzen Stadium ranks among biggest stadiums in Big Ten With the Oregon Ducks announcing earlier this week that they will be joining the Big Ten in 2024, everything we know about the Ducks’ frequent opponents changes. One of the fundamental things that will shift, is the venues Oregon will visit during away games. On Monday, Oregon’s defensive lineman Casey Rogers — who spent three seasons playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers — said that the Big Ten is home to “the cathedrals of college football.” While the Pac-12 has plenty of impressive football stadiums, the Big Ten is home to some of the largest football stadiums on the planet, amateur or professional, which breeds a different atmosphere on Saturdays than any Oregon fan will be used to. Below is the stadium of every team that will be in the Big Ten for 2024, the city it is in, and the capacity. 19. CLASS IMPACT: Dakoda Fields Commits to Oregon Oregon scored a big win on the trail Monday, flipping 2024 Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields from USC, as he announced his commitment to Dan Lanning and the Ducks. As usual, we're breaking this commitment down from every angle. You can't really overstate how big of a recruiting win this is for Oregon. The Ducks steal one of the top commits in USC's class and Fields being a Southern California product only makes it that much sweeter. He's also the first commit for Dan Lanning after the Ducks announced their move to the Big Ten--a move that should only bring positive recruiting momentum moving forward. Demetrice Martin deserves his flowers for this one, as he stayed consistent and let his track record of development do a lot of the talking. But you have to mention the entire staff here. Dan Lanning, Tosh Lupoi and Rashad Wadood all played significant roles in this recruitment as a team approach proved to be a key difference between USC and Oregon. 20. What does it take for a true freshman to get meaningful playing time for Oregon football? Oregon football's crop of true freshmen are impressive in 2023, with a couple all but assured to play meaningful downs throughout the season, especially as it progresses. With pads coming on and scrimmages set to ramp up during the second week of fall camp, will any see playing time during the Ducks' season opener at home Sept. 2 against Portland State? Oregon's coaching staff said it isn’t ready to declare any freshmen as contributors yet. But they do like what they've seen from a few of them. 21. Casey Rogers, Tony Tuioti give Oregon Big Ten perspective after Nebraska experience While the 2023 college football season is what is the most pressing matter at the moment, it’s hard to ignore the elephant in the room after the Oregon Ducks announced that they would be leaving for the Big Ten conference a year from now. How will things change for the Ducks? We know that they will be playing on a bigger stage, and against some of the best competition in the nation, but will they need to alter anything that they do? How drastically will the gameplan have to change in order to compete in that league against the Ohio State’s and Michigan’s of the world? Fortunately, Oregon has a couple of people both on the current roster and the coaching staff who are familiar with Big Ten play. Defensive line coach Tony Tuioti and defensive lineman Casey Rogers both came from the Nebraska Cornhuskers a year ago, so they know what it’s like to play in the Big Ten. Oregon Football: Tony Tuioti gives Big Ten perspective to Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM “The cathedrals of college football are in the Big Ten.”
