  2. Kansas, Oregon and USC make early impression for four-star '25 DB Jae’on Young It could be yet another Oregon-USC battle for one of the top prospects out West. Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon junior athlete Jae'on Young is a two-sport standout and will be one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the West Coast ’25 class. Young is a talented cover corner who had a big sophomore season for one of the state’s top programs. He finished the season with 42 tackles and five interceptions and then went out and had a big year on the track last Spring. He ran six sub 11.0-100m with a personal best of 10.77 and a 21.87-200m. He also ran anchor on the schools 4X100m relay team that qualified for the Masters meet and it will be fun to see what kind of times Young can put up over the next couple of years. 6. TV sources assess Pac-12 media proposal as 'Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic' As Arizona President Robert Robbins assesses the Pac-12 Conference’s media rights proposal – which primarily entails a majority streaming deal with Apple TV+ – two key questions will need to be addressed: How substantially would a heavy streaming deal cut into the visibility and exposure of the Pac-12’s brand? Long-entrenched Pac-12 fans are still tethered to linear TV networks, which offer broader reach and incessant promotion of league inventory. Plus, what level of risk would schools be assuming by entering into a pact with subscription-based financial incentives? ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that element was central to the proposal that Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff unveiled to members Tuesday. “If the Pac-12 had a better linear [network] offer – in terms of cash and distribution – they would not be considering Apple,” Neal Pilson, the former longtime CBS Sports president, told On3 on Wednesday. “Half the remaining Pac-12 schools will probably move to the Big Ten and the Big 12, which means the end of the Pac-12. So, we are talking about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.” Uncertainty continues to mount, especially in light of Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel’s report that Big Ten presidents have begun discussions surrounding the possible addition of Oregon and Washington. The conference is not trying to appear predatory but is doing due diligence. The Big Ten could add Stanford and Cal if the Pac-12 fully collapses. It’s becoming increasingly clear Kliavkoff’s chances of pulling together the Pac-9 is weakening. 7. Jon Gold: Pac-12 doesn't deserve another bite at the Apple, and now some of its teams might not get one, either I was driving this morning and saw not one but two DirecTV trucks and not one but two signs for junk removal, and I couldn’t help but think about the Pac-12 and Larry Scott and George Kliavkoff. All day Tuesday, in the wake of the news that Kliavkoff had reportedly presented Pac-12 powers that be with an insufficient media rights deal focused on a streaming partnership with Apple, I was thinking of apple adages. I couldn’t help myself. Like “an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but it sure won’t keep the Big 12 at bay.” Like “an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and that’s good, because Stanford will be one of just a few teams remaining when all is said and done.” And, of course, a rotten apple spoils the bunch. 8. Remember that the article says talks are only in preliminary stages... Sources: Big Ten has begun preliminary talks to potentially add Oregon, Washington, Cal and Stanford The Big Ten has begun exploratory discussions about expanding membership to 18 or even 20 teams, industry sources have told Yahoo Sports. The schools being considered are Oregon and Washington if the league adds two schools, and Cal and Stanford if it wants to move to 20. All four institutions are currently members of the Pac-12. The discussions are in the very early stages, sources caution. No decision, including on whether to expand or stay put at 16 teams, has been made or is considered imminent. The Big Ten may also patiently wait to see what happens with other Pac-12 schools and their potential move to the Big 12 before acting at all. However, ballooning the league to as many 20 teams by adding a six-team West Coast flank — including 2024 arrivals USC and UCLA — is a real possibility. This is especially true if the Pac-12, which dates back to 1915, falls apart in the near future. 9. Four-star '25 WR Phillip Bell hears from schools all over Mission Viejo (Calif.) junior wide receiver Phillip Bell is among the state’s top prospects, regardless of class and as expected, his phone was active Tuesday. He has been receiving national scholarship offers since middle school, and it didn’t take long for his phone to start ringing. “Junior Adams at Oregon was the first coach who called,” Bell said. “He called right at 12:00 and we had a good conversion. 14. Social media reacts to reported Pac-12 streaming deal with Apple TV After over a year of negotiating and looking for a media rights deal that would see the remaining Pac-12 schools get as much revenue as some of the competing conferences in the nation, commissioner Georgia Kliavkoff finally presented some numbers to his constituents on Tuesday afternoon. The reception may not have been what he had hoped it would be. As anticipated, fans of the Pac-12 and college football in general chimed in via social media to comment on the deal, many of whom took a chance to declare a time of death for the conference. Will the lackluster numbers result in more defections for the conference that is trying — and apparently failing — to stay afloat? Time will tell. For now, here are some of the best reactions on social media to the new deal numbers that are being floated. 15. Dan Lanning Wants Dylan Williams to be Oregon's Nakobe Dean Oregon's 2024 recruiting class is ranked No. 12 in the country and recently landed a commitment from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly linebacker Dylan Williams. Ducks Digest checked in with the standout backer to discuss his decision and what's next for him after committing to Oregon. For Williams, his pledge to Oregon came down to development and he's confident the Ducks can get the best out of him. "I feel like the coaching staff at Oregon is going to take me to the next level with my game and develop me," Williams said. "Coach Tosh Lupoi, Coach Dan Lanning, Coach B-Mike (Bryan Michalowski), they're going to develop me very well." The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defender projects to be a key part of Oregon's defense in the near future. Dan Lanning has big plans for him and wants to him to develop in the mold of a Butkus Award winner he coached in the SEC. "We run a 4-2-5 up in Eugene so I'll be playing both the mic and the money. 20. After the happenings this week, there aren't many people in the conference I believe in, somehow I believe Lanning. This article will make you feel good about our coach... Dan Lanning explains why he signed an extension with a large buyout Oregon head coach Dan Lanning offered comment on his new deal at the program's media day less than a week after signing a contract extension through the 2028 season. Dan Lanning's actions last week signaled his commitment to Oregon for the long haul. His comments at the program's media day on Monday afternoon simply reiterated it. The 37-year old's new deal adds one year and keeps him under contract though 2028. It will also ups his pay considerably, beginning this year when he's owed $2.3 million more than he was under his initial agreement. In total, he's now set to make $45 million over the next six years. Lanning also agreed to a $20 million buyout for the deal's duration, making it a challenge for opposing schools to poach him before his deal runs out. 21. Meet the new Ducks: What UO transfers want Oregon fans to know about them The 2023 college football season unofficially kicked off on Monday afternoon for the Oregon Ducks with the annual media day taking place inside the club level at Autzen Stadium. There, media members got a chance to sit down and talk to over 40 of the players on the team and get their perspectives going into the new season. It offered an opportunity to talk to a handful of new players on the team for the first time. That’s what I was focused on. With over 50 players on the roster this season that will be wearing the green and yellow for the first time, I wanted to take the chance and find out what Oregon fans who knew nothing about these players, should know about these players. What better source than the players themselves? I asked the incoming transfers — all but two of them I could get to due to interview scheduling — what they wanted Duck fans to know about them and who they are going into the season. 23. Ducks off to blazing start in 2025, among top-ranked schools in national rankings Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are working hard to turn in one of the top-rated recruiting classes in the 2024 class at the moment, with one of the best blue-chip ratios in the Pac-12 Conference, and a top-15 rated class at the moment. That hasn’t stopped them from getting off to a blazing hot start on the 2025 class, where they’ve already picked up a handful of blue-chip players and rank among the top schools in the nation. On Monday, the Ducks landed a commitment from 4-star quarterback Akili Smith Jr., the son of Oregon legend Akili Smith, a former Pac-10 Player of the Year and the No. 3 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. The Ducks also have commitments from 4-star WR Dallas Wilson, the No. 24 player in the 2024 class, as well as 4-star WR Adrian Wilson, the No. 163 player in the class.
