  1. Oregon long snapper Luke Basso showing signs of something special in fall Oregon may have one of the nation's best long snappers this year, and only the diehardiest of diehards know his name. Sophomore Luke Basso is slated to replace Karsten Battles, who held the job for the past five years, as the team's primary snapper this fall. Few know much of anything about him, and that's exactly how the Lake Oswego native wants it. "As a specialist, at least for a long snapper, you don't want your name to be called," Basso said on Tuesday evening. "That's just part of the job. It's going out there, executing and having fun, really." 2. Lanning provides film review insight into first scrimmage, looks ahead to second scrimmage Oregon held their first of what is expected to be three fall camp scrimmages this past weekend, and after having a chance to review and grade the film Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning gave his input on his takeaways from the day's camp. "There was a ton of things you know, looking back, I mean, ultimately, we want to tackle better, we're gonna take care of the ball better a lot of things that I walked away with saying right after the scrimmage, still hold true," said Lanning. "Situational you got to play a little bit better situational ball, red area, two minute, for both sides of the ball. But we have to stop the run better defensively and have to do a better job in those situations offensively." Fresh off the football field after the scrimmage Lanning cited the need for Oregon to play more consistently over the entire length of practice. 3. P Matthew Rigney on transferring to Oregon: 'It's an opportunity I couldn't pass up' In mid-May, Oregon landed a commitment from graduate transfer punter Matthew Rigney. Rigney, an Australian native, transferred from Austin Peay State University in Tennessee in a rather unexpected move. Oregon's special teams struggled in 2022, failing to play up to the consistency levels that head coach Dan Lanning and special teams coordinator Joe Lorig demanded. Rigney was a definition of consistent at Austin Peay, earning All-ASUN Conference honors last season. Rigney averaged 40.9 yards on 44 punts last season, with eight landing inside the 20, four for 50-plus yards with a long of 57. Of Rigney's 44 attempts, just two landed as touchbacks. 4. Social media reacts to Bo Nix 'BODACIOUS' billboard going up in New York City “He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.” It’s been a running joke throughout the long college career for Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix. After the electric start to his career as a freshman for the Auburn Tigers, Nix struggled to get back to the peak of his game until coming to Eugene a year ago and thriving under the tutelage of Kenny Dillingham. Now, entering his final year of college ball, the hype has never been bigger for Nix. A Heisman Trophy campaign has been kicked off and his going strong early on. To help ignite the buzz, the Ducks took a play from the old playbook and put up a massive “BODACIOUS” billboard in downtown New York City to start spreading the word about Bo. It started to go up on Tuesday and was completed on Wednesday. As you would expect, the reaction to the billboard on social media was quite entertaining. 7. Updated win-percentage odds for every Duck game according to ESPN FPI By all metrics, the Oregon Ducks are expected to have a pretty successful season in 2023. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise; Dan Lanning had a great first year as a head coach and now is more experienced going into 2023; the offense brings back QB Bo Nix, WR Troy Franklin, RB Bucky Irving, and TE Terrance Ferguson, among many other impact players; the defense has re-tooled and hopes to be much more productive with an improved pass-rush and speedy secondary. While their preseason rankings across a number of polls may not reflect the high expectations that are held in Eugene, their projected record and early-season odds going into each game say differently. 8. 'He's a raw talent': Oregon players and coaches impressed, entertained by WR Jurrion Dickey If you were to take a random poll of 100 Oregon Duck fans going into the 2023 season, asking them which young player they are most excited to see in the upcoming months, I think the overwhelming answer would be wide receiver, Jurrion Dickey. As a former 5-star recruit, and the second-highest-rated receiver to ever sign with the Ducks, expectations are high for Dickey. He was rated as the No. 2 WR in the 2023 class, and the No. 18 player in the nation. His reputation precedes him. While Dickey was not in Eugene for the spring football season, he has been able to take flight with the Ducks over the past few weeks once fall camp started. In many ways, the true-freshman WR has made a strong first impression on players and coaches in Eugene. 9. Oregon football: Ducks' inside linebackers bulk up to be a ‘more relentless’ unit Coach Dan Lanning wanted the defense to get bigger and stronger this offseason and the Ducks inside linebackers appear to have received the message. Though Oregon hasn’t revealed official weights of its players, several have confirmed what the eyes can see — most are bigger and stronger than what they played at in 2022. “Ultimately, I didn’t think we had enough knock-back tackles last year,” Lanning said. “We have to be a team that has knock-back tackles and not lose yards after contact. You start doing that by getting in the weight room and I think our guys challenged themselves to do that.” Oregon football: Ducks' inside linebackers bulk up to be a ‘more relentless’ unit WWW.REGISTERGUARD.COM Coach Dan Lanning wanted the Oregon defense to get bigger and stronger this offseason and his inside linebackers appear to have...

  11. Do you want to feel old for a second? It was over two decades ago that Oregon Ducks quarterback Joey Harrington had his name, image, and likeness plastered to the side of a building in downtown New York City, kicking off his campaign for the Heisman Trophy in 2001. The poster hung adjacent from Madison Square Garden on 7th Avenue, and remained there throughout the season. Time is a flat circle, isn’t it? On Tuesday, pictures started circulating online that could give Oregon fans flashbacks. According to multiple reports on the social media platform formally known as Twitter, a massive 12-story poster is going up of current Oregon QB Bo Nix, appearing to be labeled “Bodacious.” Oregon Football: Bo Nix gets ‘Joey Heisman’ treatment in New York City DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Bo Knows Heisman? 12. Smoke, poor air quality forces Oregon inside Moshofsky Center for practice At times on Tuesday, Eugene and the rest of Lane County dealt with some of the poorest air quality in North America. The Air Quality Index flirted with a maximum value during the early afternoon, proving enough to move Oregon's football practice indoors. Dan Lanning and company were forced to call a late audible when the figures surpassed the threshold allowed for outdoor practice and instead held the day's workout inside the Moshofsky Center. "A change of scenery a little bit. We've been going outside, but we had to go in the indoor today just because of some of the smoke," he said in his opening comments. 17. Oregon's Top 5 Flip Candidates in the 2024 Recruiting Class The Ducks may not be out of it for some of the nation's best with four months to go before the early signing period. Oregon's 2024 recruiting class is in a great spot as the start of the 2023 college football season is now less than a month away. Dan Lanning and company hold 22 verbal commitments, which ranks No. 12 nationally according to 247Sports. With as many commitments as the Ducks have, spots are going to become more valuable, which means the coaches will likely be more selective with who they take. That said, Oregon will continue to recruit a number of players despite a verbal commitment. Predicting a flip to Oregon for these players isn't something I'm ready to do, but here's a batch that I think is worth keeping an eye on with high school football kicking off across the country this month. 18. Nikko Reed enjoying his new team, new position with the Ducks Nikko Reed was a standout at Colorado at cornerback the last two seasons for the Buffaloes. He started 13 of the 24 games he played over his first two seasons, and he also led the Buffs in interceptions in 2022. So when he landed at Oregon this spring after entering the transfer portal many assumed he'd be in line for a potential starting spot a cornerback. Instead, Reed is playing at corner while also learning a new position within his new defense and program. "Learning a new position, I've been switching between Corner and Nickelback," Reed said of early impressions of fall camp. "Learning that has been a big improvement for me. Oregon cornerback coach Demetrice Martin recruited Reed to Colorado and then coached him during his freshman season in 2021. Martin joined the staff at Oregon ahead of the 2022 season and the Ducks were quick to target Reed out of the portal. The reason? His ability to fit within Oregon's defense. 20. Oregon's freshmen CBs pushing the vets, have 'upped the level' at corner Oregon CB coach Demetrice Martin says true freshmen corners Rodrick Pleasant and Daylen Austin have challenged the veterans in the room with their play this fall. There's no guarantee that true freshmen cornerbacks Daylen Austin and Rodrick Pleasant will play this fall. The pair of elite corner prospects, who each arrived after spring, have a heap of veterans to out-duel first. If nothing else, the duo has done its job this fall, cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin said on Monday evening. Their natural abilities have been hard to miss, Martin says, and that's led to better play across the position. "They've upped the level. They've upped the score," Martin said. "Now they've helped Trikweze [Bridges], they've helped [Dontae] Manning, they've helped all those other guys step up their game."
