Watch For Lanning’s Delayed Inside Linebacker Blitz!
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Another thing that I think we need to watch this year is the change from how D-Rut ran lots of his blitzes. It seemed like most of the time D-Rut put the LBs on the line in the gaps pre-snap and brought them when he wanted to pressure the QB. D-Rut's scheme seemed bland- he was showing what he was doing. He didn't stack the LBs on the line and drop them much, if he wasn't bringing pressure, he stayed base mostly. It was like a Mario influenced scheme... "we are good and will just stay base, react and play tough D- we are tough"... DRut didn't create confusion or hide what he was doing with his front seven well. I think Lanning is going to really use lots more scheme to confuse the offensive line and QB. It appears Lanning has some sneaky blitzes he runs, it will be interesting to see if he stacks the LBs in the gaps more and then drops them at the snap. I love a defensive scheme that plays chess every snap- we didn't have that last year. So, your article today and tomorrow shows us some things to key on pre-snap and at the snap that we will see. But you give us little bites off good info we can absorb and process without a mental overload. -
Watch For Lanning’s Delayed Inside Linebacker Blitz!
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That first blitz was well coached and timed. Pre-snap Adrian Jackson starts to move to his right and at the snap when DJ fires off the edge at the snap of the ball, Jackson loops around him. That pulls the running back out to help the tackle chip-block on Jackson. Then LaDuke moves right (twists) and goes through the center guard gap untouched, and the RB isn't there to pick him up. If this was the starting LB unit Flowe who is faster than LaDuke would be on the delay and to the QB even quicker. Both Flowe and Sewell are aggressive big hitters who can blow up plays on their own, freeing the up with scheme is icing on the cake. Thanks for the article, Charles! I tend watch the LBs pre-snap to see if we are showing base, or up in the line in gaps showing blitz- and how deep the safety is. Are we stacking the box, are we showing blitz? Then at the snap I tend to watch what our LBs do- if they were in the gaps on the line did they drop into coverage? Now if I see a LB right before the snap start to move around the end, it's going to key me to this delayed blitz might be on. -
Bradyn Swinson: Oregon’s Next Sack-Master?
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You're right, Swinny has come a long way. I have a Duck bud who was hyped on him before last season started, and the kid looks ready to eat it up now. I think it's possible he could have double digit sacks this year. -
Bradyn Swinson: Oregon’s Next Sack-Master?
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Here we go! Defense through the weekend on FishDuck and articles like you won't read anywhere else! I've told my buds they can't miss them: - they will be missing things pre-snap or not grasping some of Lanning's LB schemes when watching the games! Swinny's get off looks so fast he is into the tackle be the time he makes two steps of drop, then his speed just eats them up. Kis had technique too, using his hands well, dipping under to turn the corner. I can tell he put in his time working his tail off behind Thibs to get ready for his chance to be the man. It does make you worry about how Sala and Jarmillo got used up like a dish rag by Swinny. UGA had Nolan Smith and Robert Beals Jr on the edge, elite dudes! Great article Charles, this Lanning D is going to be fun. -
Mario Cristobal: Quarterback Killer
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think the staff really laid into him in film sessions for throwing that same stupid pick to the shallow guy time and again. I saw him do the same in a TT game last year. But I'll take Shoughs 9.3 yards per pass and 160 pass rating over AB all day long. -
Mario Cristobal: Quarterback Killer
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great post. The TT fans should try a year of AB in Mario ball before they complain about Shough. I'd rather had Shough last year then AB. In 2020 Shough even with the bad picks, Mario getting in his head and dealing the offense back led the Pac-12 in yards per pass and pass rating. Check out the link below- Shough was blowing the rest away in pass rating and was a yard better per pass than jayden Daniles at ASU 2020 Pac-12 Conference Player Passing Stats | ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Visit ESPN to view 2020 Pac-12 Conference College Football player stats -
If You Have ANY Doubts about Lanning--See This

Yes, Pennsylvania Duck is on it! I just did a drive by through the FishDuck Feed and there are already some articles I'm going to be back to read in a bit. -
Mario Cristobal: Quarterback Killer
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well, Shough if he stayed would be QB1 in Dillys system and Bo Nix would have never come. Shough would be looking for a big year before heading to the draft and Butter is the guy who I expect would transfer. Then in 2023 next year we would have five-stars Thompson and Moore. -

I wanted to do this article so that the statistical data could be laid out. I feel it's important to have the numbers to go with what our eyes told us. It also gives us AB's stats last year that many of us felt wasn't meeting the benchmark for QB play we want at Oregon. The discussion lets us ponder some other things. What if Taggart stayed with his Gulf Coast Offense? Would the Ducks have made the playoffs 2018? We don't lose to Tree at home in OT, we put up more than 20 points at Wazzu and don't lose by 14, maybe we don't implode at Arizona, we score more than 25 points at Utah don't lose by 7 points? You think at the least we win two of those games, Tree and Utah- could we have won a third game to move us to a one loss team? Herbs numbers we expect would have improved in 2018, maybe enough to make it to NY as a Heisman finalist? Would Herbs have gone pro after 2018 and not came back for his final year? Do the Arizona Cardinals take Herbs first or 5' 10" Kyler Murry? For sure the NY Giants take Herbs at 6th over Danile Jones, right? Lastly, let's look back at Tyler Shough.. I went nuts on his picks he kept throwing into the shallow cover guy. But Shough was playing good QB besides the picks! He completed 63.5% for 9.3 yads per pass and has a 160.4 pass rating. Shough before he got hurt at Texas Tech last year threw for 69.6% with 9.5 yards over pass and 164.2 pass rating! Shough, last year in 4 games was close to Herbs best level under Taggart-- while the Ducks ran out AB. That 2020 Covid year saw Penie Sewell opt out, with Jevon Holland, Tyler Graham and Brady Breeze. Having those guys would have made a difference in one score losses to Cal and OSU! Shough could have had us unbeaten going into the Bowl game with help. But I have to wonder even more what would have been of Mario would have told Tyler to just keep letting it rip? Mario actually got into Shough's head, they dialed the offense back and he played worse! It appears at that point Mario decided he didn't need a QB throwing picks and messing up his "Mario Ball Scheme" What would Shough have done in Taggarts Gulf Coast Offense if he had stayed to coach the Ducks? Looking back not only did Mario ruin Herbs and AB, he ran off Tyler Shough-- the QB who was poised to put-up big-time numbers at Oregon! I'd love to hear feedback and comments on any of the things I posted. -
Oregon's Unique Weakness for the 2022 Season
DazeNconfused replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great post Charles and I share your worries. We are going to find out what we got game one against UGA. The edge guys Nolan Smith the #1 player in the 2019 class and Robert Beals Jr. a high four-star is the Dawgs leading returner in sacks. Sala and Jarmillo will have to be better than in the spring game or we will have problems. One solution could be to chip with the TE or RB to help out if we are getting eaten up in the game. I agree Connerly Jr has excellent feet and could be an option. Bram Walden was a Top 100 guy as a tackle out of HS. The second-year player at 304lbs should also be an option. Here is where we miss Top 100 in 2019 tackle Jonah Tauanu'u and the transfer of almost 5-star Kingsley Suamataia not being in the program. -
No, I disagreed with your claim.. " they have more 4 - and 5-star players on their bench then almost any Pac-10 team has on their entire team" I showed half the SEC and B1G teams don't have more blue-chips sitting on the bench than almost anyone in the Pac. I've never claimed the SEC doesn't have talent, but the back half isn't elite as I've said. The SEC is top heavy. The Pac has Ducks #8, USC #9, UW #17, UCLA #24, Tree #24, ASU #25 in the Top 30- six teams The BIG has OSU #3, Mich #16, Penn St #16, Whisky #21, Huskers #23 in the Top 30- five teams Over half the top 30 teams in the nation talent wise all come from two conferences. The SEC and pac-12. I'm going to leave with Ducks backup Jayson Jones is going to start for Aubrun this fall and Robby Ashford our #4 QB last year might start as well. DJ James our starting comer last year will start at Auburn in the SEC.

Your 100% right, Utah's TE's hurt us with the run block and pass game. I think Lanning might have to go Dime package on passing downs to keep our LB's from having to cover Bowers and get the big safeties on him that can run with him and be physical? Or maybe move Noah to stand up edge on the passing down and bring in Bassa who can run with Bowers?
-
I pulled this off the FishDuck Feed, I really like using it for my Ducks news. This is a pleasant surprise to see the Ducks DB's getting serious respect and love! We do have 90% blue-chip talent back there we reloaded with. We lost Veron McKinley and Mykael Wright and still are Top 12?! Gonzo and Bennett we all know are proven top shelf guys. A huge factor will be if 5-star Donte Manning shows out as elite this year. Byran Addison has never been the 1st string guy getting the most reps, so we have to watch that. Steve Stephans, Trikweze Bridges, and Jamal Hill all have plenty of game experience. If we stay healthy, we won't have to throw Florance or Tucker to the fire. I disagree with you, and I think your putting out something that just isn't true, and I'll show you why. I will give the link to the roster talent calculator on 247. I've long watched recruiting and I watch this tracker. The Top 16 best rosters are a blend of the top SEC. B1G, ACC, Pac-12, and Big-12 teams. Bama, UGA, TheOSU, Chokelahoma, LSU, Clemson, Ducks, Texas, USC, Gators, Aggies, Maimi, Penn St, N Dame, War Eagle - you get the picture. Bama, UGA, TheOSU are the top three and have 74 to 65 blue-chips, then it's a gap back to the next. Clemson at #4 have 50 blue-chips and #16 Penn St have 44, so there is a big pack with close to the same amount of blue-chips in that pack. Then the blue-chip numbers fall as #17 UW have 36 and #19 Tenn have 29. Tenn has 15 less blue-chips than #16 Penn St!! #22 So. Carolina has 23 blue-chips on the roster - #24 and #25 UCLA and Stanford have 21 blue-chips, and #26 ASU has 22 - they are all right there with So Carolina. The SEC teams #27 Ole Miss, #28 Arky, #30 Miss. St, #31 Kentucky have 20, 21, 17 and 21 clue chips. The fact is you can throw a blanket over the blue-chip talent of five SEC teams Game Cocks, Arky, UK, Ole Miss, Miss St and three Pac-12 teams ASU, UCLA and Tree. So how are they going to have more sitting on the bench than "almost any Pac-12 team has on their entire team"? The 5th best SEC roster Texas A&M has 49 blue-chips to the Ducks 49 and USC with 48. The 4 best SEC teams, Clemson and Chokelahoma all have a gap over Texas A&M the Ducks and USC. The SEC has 5 of the top 10 rosters in FBS. The SEC Top teams are loaded and then the mid pack SEC teams have less than half as many blue-chips and they are right there with the second tier Pac-12 teams. The Pac-12 has two teams in the Top 10 to the B1G's one team and if you look the second tier Pac and B1G teams are on the same ballpark. I think it's important we really look at and stick to the facts so other readers aren't mis-informed. The fact is the Top 16 rosters are spread around the best teams in the Power Five. If you take Utah at #32 on up, and consider David Marsh's article today, you can see the teams that could be the Semi-Pro's someday? There are haves and have nots in college football and the link shows it clearly. 2021 College Football Team Talent Composite 247SPORTS.COM In order to create the most comprehensive Team Recruiting Ranking without any notion of bias, 247Sports Team Recruiting Ranking is solely based on the 247Sports Composite Rating.

The Eventual College Football Renaissance
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Good article and good take, lot of what I also think could go down. The Ducks could end up in some conference where they are in the east division. I mean the Cowboys are in the NFC East with NY, Philly and Washington. The Semi-Pro teams will be all about the Media Money and if you have to travel like an NFL team does then so be it. -
Fair enough. But in my article Ty was quoted about having a learning curve, maybe he will improve and blow up. That mechanical Butters just might run the offense the most calmly and get to the right decision more, I wouldn't sleep on him. We are going to have to watch it play out through this week into this weekend's scrimmage. I believe Lanning when he says no QB has separated himself. I don't think Lanning would lie to the media first year of his first job, or let his players hear he was feeding the media BS about the QBs. Hold on, it's going to shake out here.
-
Doesn't it sound Lanning to have those big safeties? One is a converted WR and Bridges is the long DB 4-star recruit. Lanning is a brilliant defensive mind, on all levels. The Natty scheme was insane. What to expect? Your Dawgs are 17.5 points better to the odds makers. On paper the Ducks have a top 3 SEC defense that's being overlooked, they will keep it a close game late if they protect the ball. But if the Ducks have 14 points off turnovers, then the Dawgs will cover the spread for sure.
-
I just posted in the other QB thread. The staff here inherited Ty a five-star QB who was #10 in nation. Thats a sure thing and we run him out early this year and see if he blows up like he should. They go to Ty this year, and Moore gets a redshirt year next year before he takes over. It's coaching malpractice if you inherit TY and don't play him to see if he blows up, then you move to the five-star QB you got on Moore. If I'm going to fail, I'm going to fail on Ty and Moore.
-
Solid Post. I've said in articles on here that Butters looked my QB2 from the spring game. My gut is that Ty is going to blow up and take the job, if not in camp early in the year. Mario's staff had Ty as QB2 this year and Lanning's staff has done the same. That tells me both staffs see the ceiling of Ty is special. Ty was a Rivals five-star and #10 player in the nation! That's like a sure thing!!! QBs make the biggest jump from year one into year two and I think before the year is done the job will be Ty's and they will see how far he goes before Moore shows up. If Ty blows up this year, he will play next year and be gone. That gives Moore one redshirt year. If you're going to bet on hitting on a QB, then you play #10 in the nation Ty and then Moore!!
-
Solid post. I could be 100% wrong and Bo Nix could go Joe Burrow and I'll be back here saying he is the MAN and I was wrong. Isn't FishDuck fun? haha. But Bo I think does have a bar to meet as far as how he plays. He has to play weel enough against UGA that we can't point fingers at him and say he didn't give us a chance to win............... And he has to beat BYU at home........ if he can't pull that off then the heat is on........
-
DJ is a freak like some of the UGA TE's, but he would have trouble covering the UGA TE's. Bowers is smaller and cuts well and DJ isn't a pass D guy. Bowers will pass 1000 yards this year I'd guess and 15 TD's. It will be 6'5" Bryan Addison and 6'3" Trikweze Bridges who has a 7' wingspan who ran as the deep safeties in spring ball, and they might be the longest pair in FBS covering the TE's. I think that's a card Lanning has kept to himself but planned since day 1 for this game.
-
Great post! I have a two Ducks vrs UGA articles coming out where I break the TE's down and much more! First of UGA has the best TE room in college football. Bowers is the best TE in FBS and Erik Gilbert might be just as good? Bowers off the top of my head has 50 some odd catches, made a run at 1000 yards with 12 TD's. Gilbert was good his Frosh year at LSU and looked good in the spring game. They are TROUBLE for Lanning. Lanning ran 6'5" Bryan Addison and 6'3" Trikweze Bridges who has a 7' wingspan as the deep safeties in spring ball and they might be the longest pair in FBS! So how does Lanning try to counter the best TE in FBS? You try with the longest pair of big body safeties because we know you have to try to counter the size if the TE's with size they can't physically dominate. This will be an elite epic matchup. No one can matchup the best TE in FBS like the Ducks, but that best TE room is still Trouble! I expect the Ducks safeties will be uber physical and Lanning will scheme them in man to man with the TE's as much as he can. I could see us on a passing down going Dime package and bringing Bridges or Addison up closer to the line to take the TE. That UGA TE still has 6'7' Darrell Washington at 270lbs who is like an extra O Line dude. So UGA can bring him in to pound the rock and dude still slips out on routes in play action pass... UGA's TE room just isn't fair! I have a bunch of other matchups I could go into but let's save it for my auricles this coming Sunday when I do the Ducks O vrs UGA D. Then Monday I flip it around. Great post and topic though! Let's meet back up this time next week and discuss my articles the matchups.
