Why My Money Is on The Ducks to Beat WAZZU
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for the well wishes! The Cougars DL as going to test our OL with their speed and gap shooting. They only got one sack against Whisky, and 3 QB hurries. Nix is also mobile so if they pressure him and he breaks contain he can hurt them. They did have 7 Tackels for loss so they will be sending linebackers on the run blitz. I expect they will blow some run plays up, but I expect we will break a long TD run also. -
Why My Money Is on The Ducks to Beat WAZZU

Hello all! Using poor judgment, I wrote this propped up in bed while recovering from back surgery. hahaha I want to thank Charles for taking my first draft and adding some twists to it.. Charles doesn't make a habit of doing that for writers. This just another example of one of the many things Mr. FishDuck does investing his time for all us here at FishDuck I'm in for a bit more recovering and sitting or being propped up aggravates my back, so you won't be seeing me around much. I did do a draft of another article on my phone while lying flat on my back. If that article finds, it's way onto FishDuck we will have Charles to thank for his efforts. There is so much Administration work among other things Mr. FishDuck does to make this site work for, we all owe him a big Thanks. Lastly, thanks for all the well wishes I gotten; they are appreciated. I'm in for another 3 weeks of mostly bed rest and then onto a couple months of PT. I hope you all enjoy the article and Go Ducks!!!- 12 replies

Is “Win Now” Culture a Problem For QBs?
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Nix last year was 61% completions for 7.1 yards per pass with a 130-pass rating. 65% for over 8 yards with a 155-pass rating isn't that big of jump. The biggest thing that will bump up his pass rating is more TD's. With our OL and skill guys he should be able to throw more TDs. -

Correct on the defense part and that needs to start this Saturday. -

I'm a Bo critic, but if Bo throws two picks and we beat BYU... well I have a hard time taking QB1 from him.. All QBs do bad things, do they do more good things than bad is the question. -

I've said Bo don't need to be elite. I'll take around 65% completions, over 8 yards per pass, a three-t- one TD to INT ratio and a ballpark 155 pass rating. That's close to Herbs last year. We can win the Pac with that QB play -

Thanks for the article, Marsh, it's a good one. I'm starting to really question if the Cristobal era only did good at developing the OL guys? The good news is Ty looked better from the Spring game to last week. Ty has also said how he has learned lots, so he is coming along with the mental part of the pre-snap read game. -
I'll take a pick a game if you give me two or three TD a game. We just need Bo to be a good solid QB, he don't have to be elite for us to win.

that's a solid post too that I can't argue with

That Was a Better "Get-Well" Game Than Anticipated...
DazeNconfused replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think on paper with the talent the Ducks have they should be a Top 10 defense. Flowe, Sewell and Manning are 5 stars, DJ Johnson and Mase Funa are Top 80 guys, we have bunches of four stars. That said they I'm thinking the Mario Cristobal staff didn't develop them like the Georgia staff is developing dudes. Hands down it appears the dawgs players are in a system with elite coaching from day 1 in college. The dawgs new starters played like Vets! I think Lanning knows what it takes to develop these players in this system, but it might take the Ducks a while into the season to start playing up towards Top 10 talent as a unit. The Ducks didn't play up to their talent level last year so there is catch up to be done, and it's a big ask for Lanning, we will see how he does. On the flip side our two four-star frosh linebackers Jackson and Taggart are developing under Lanning from day 1. I think they will be better than many of us expect when they become starters. I think that goes for all our Frosh defensive guys. I think Lanning is going to lead the Ducks to a win over BYU, but even if he plays BYU close, he's done a heck of a job. The Ducks have been drilled the last four Top 25 teams they have played, and that shouldn't happen with the roster talent we had. The Georgia loss (they are on another level) really isn't a problem to me as much as the two Utah losses and Oklahoma loss. I'm glad Mario is gone because he was doing "less with more." We are going to find out if Lanning has turned the program around this Saturday on a dime and we play BYU to at worst a one score game late. If we get take a bad loss to BYU, I won't blame Lanning. I will then think we have a systemic problem from the Cristobal era than ran deeper than we knew. -

Oregon is going to beat BYU at home this weekend. The Ducks put up 313 yards of offense against Georgia with 130 yards rushing and 4.5 yard per carry average. That was game 1 on the road, not game 3 at home! The BYU defense isn't close to as good as the Dawgs and the Ducks will put up over 400 yards on them for sure. BYU barely beat Baylor at home and the Bears inexperienced QB went 18-28 for 138 yards with a low passer rating of 117. If Baylor had a good QB they win the game. BYU only ran for 83 yards on 33 carries for a 2,5-yard average, not good. BYU gave up 2 sacks and 3 QB hurries. Jaren Hall the QB was 23-39 for 261 yards and a low pass rating of 123.7. BYU's QB didn't look good, they ran the ball poorly, and played a Baylor team with an inexperienced QB. They barely won the game at home. BYU is going to have to have better QB play and running game if they want to beat the Ducks at home. On top of that they are facing a Ducks offesne that went 7-13 converting third downs against the dawgs. BYU isn't the Dawgs defense, and they aren't going to hold the Ducks to less yards or a lower 3rd down rate than Geogia. The bookies have #12 BYU as 3-point underdogs for a reason folks. It opened at 7 points, so the bookies really liked the Ducks. I watched the Baylor-BYU game and I expect the Ducks to beat BYU Bo Nix is better than the Baylor QB, the Ducks OL is better and so are the skill players. I think this game is Oregon 34-21 and the Ducks make a run at 500 yards of offense. -

Go check the stats on what Aranda at Baylot did the last two years to Riley's offense. -
Its misleading to go by supposedly how young this team is. Covid has players classified a year behind normal Players like Noah Sewell and Donte Manning are 3rd year sophomores -- they could hit the draft this year. Justin Flowe is a 3rd year freshman who could be gone after this season to the NFL. We are as good as we are going to be right now, not in two years. The only guys here two years from now will be some of the true sophomore's and this year's freshman. We need to nail a class this year and next year or we will have a talent drop off.

Positive Vibes And Enthusiasm Toward Ducks Coaches

Positive Vibes And Enthusiasm Toward Ducks Coaches
DazeNconfused replied to Notalot's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Coaching has changed since the old days when you chewed a guys butt out. Players will tune you out if all you offer is butt chewings. College players are still just older kids. You have to be a teacher of the game. Not some arrogant SOB who knows it all and yells when the players don't. If they knew it all they wouldn't need coaching. When I was a kid this seemed how coaching was - more yelling and less teaching. I mean you can still jump a player's butt, if you're teaching him -- but you have to pick your places. Your better served mostly as a coach teaching them and correcting mistakes -- when kids see that your coaching is making them better, they buy into the process. Plus, butt chewing doesn't make the game fun for players. If it's not fun the effort goes down. If they are getting better and having fun the players will accept responsibility for mistakes and work to get better with a coach who is working the process with them. Lanning seems to have this type of style -- so when he tells a player they got it all wrong they don't feel like it's a put down or an attack. They know the next thing out of his mouth is him telling them how to get better and fix it. -
Frost was already on this ice from last year. He restructured his contract and it cut his buyout in half I think and his salary for 2022 dropped 1 million. Frost agreed to all that, he knew his job was on the line before fall camp kicked off. I'd same some rich boosters ponied up the 7.5 extra 7.5 million to buy him out now. USC boosters did the same thing to fire Clay Helton. I'm sure the Huskers are thinking they are going to be like USC and make a splash hire like Riley.
