  1. He made a great throw, on the outside shoulder of the WR. The WR turned inside the wrong way and still adjusted and made the catch.
  2. A cloud of punt... awesome line there!
  3. The impact of not having Flowe last year was huge. Having him for a full season alongside Sewell makes the defense better. Then add in Lanning's scheme and teams are in trouble with the pair.
  4. Good info!! I said in my other article I suspect Flowe and Sewell for have their career highs for sacks and TFL in Lanning's scheme. I think DJ and Swinny may do the same. Do you know what the team season record for sacks is?
  5. Mario hired Gattis as his OC who had the power run game with play action at Michigan last year. Gattis is Mario's OC hire that he thinks can really fit the power scheme he wants to run. Mario thinks he hired his OC that can take his Mario style ball to the playoffs. Gattis may have won the Broyles award last year, but his offense was 15th in the nation and ran the ball 68% of the time. Michigan ran for an average of 100 yards more per game than Miami did last year, and they passed for 100 yards less per game on average. Miami fans are going to get the stink eye really quick when they see a lot less TVD passing and a bunch more run plays than last year when TVD broke out and they found out they had a QB.
  6. Justin Flowe and what kind of season he will have has been on my mind... All-American?
  7. He has Cozart in the same class, can't sleep on him. Justis Lowe and Kyler Kasper in the class before them.
  8. Buzz Kill!!! haha.. ya he was a 5-star bust
  9. They got obnoxious in the Jim Tressel era after they were choke artists in the John Cooper era.
  10. Jake Dickert – Washington State Overall grade of this hiring: 12 (less than average) Kalen DeBoer – Washington Overall grade of this hiring: 14.5 (better than average) Lincoln Riley – USC Overall grade of this hiring: 15.5 (excellent) Dan Lanning– Oregon Overall grade of this hiring: 16.5 (superior) Cue the Austin Powers - yeah baby!
  11. Texas has been my most hated for two reasons. Mack Brown lobbying for them to be in BCS and the Holiday Bowl they were playing the Ducks. They were on that naval ship at a pre-game event, and they threw up the horns and were mocking the Ducks. I don't care if my grandkids go to Texas, I'll still hate them. The OSU runs a close second because their fanbase thinks they should always be in the BCS or playoff over other teams with better records. But we are The OSU mentality. I think I used to hate the Huskies, but that turned to pity long ago. Though their fans did get under my skin with their Bow Dwon stuff back in 2015.
  12. Notalot called him a wizard on offense, you can get much better praise than that. DeBoer got some transfers in to help this year. But the 2024 class will be a test for his recruiting chops. For the 2023 class he has taken lots of three-star guys early to fill his class. I think we will soon again have the Ducks-UW game being a huge matchup in the conference race.
  13. The first two posters are well aware of DeBoer it seems. I wrote this article to inform Duck fans who maybe didn't know much about DeBoer or were sleeping on him. In response to Notalots post... Debore brought almost all of his staff from Fresno St. with his. His OC-QB coach. Co-Dc and LB coach, Co-Dc and safeties coach, the RB', the cornerbacks' coaches, the special teams. He did make two hires. He kept the UW OL coach who had been at UW for years. DeBoer poached the Wisconsion DL coach who had been there for around 6 years coaching the DL. Inoke Beckterfield a former Bark Eater who was Beavis MVP and won the Morris award as Pac's best DL. DeBoer has his staff settled. Possibly the best OL in the Pac-12 Jaxson Kirkland (Husky legacy player) applied for eligibility and got a final year and is coming back. I saw him with DeBoer on Pac-12 media day, and he was talking about how he cried when he got the news. DeBoer said it was emotional for him when Kirkland called to tell him because he had spent time on the phone talking to Kirkland's family and he knew how important and how much UW meant to the family and Jaxson. I think DeBoer already gets how important the UW program is to longtime Huskies and DeBoer is a culture coach. I think UW will be at worse 7-5 and go to a bowl game this year and I'd peg DeBoer for a 10-win season soon. If the Ducks had hired DeBoer I'd have been over the moon, he is that good.
  14. I can't remember the last Top 200 DL guy we got
  15. I love seeing so many people fired up for this defense and the Ducks first kickoff!
  16. The wheels fell off for Helf without him. If Nick stays Helf keeps his job.
  17. Fisch had a class that rated 3rd in the Pac based on the 23 kids they got, they also got 9 transfers. I think your right that they won't be at the bottom, they could win 4-5 games, they will have some close losses.
  18. I think a huge factor in me making a bold assertion is that D-Rut was at times so passive with his scheme. He would show base pre-snap, then play base over and over. The first two possessions against UCLA are a great example as Chip shredded our defense for two nice scoring drives. The offensive line had to do very little thinking or communication in their blocking assignments. We weren't even stemming pre-snap. Then D-Rut started use the blitz, stunts, show the LB on the line for a blitz and drop them at the snap. In other games we played a ton of bland base D until late in the game when we had to break out the blitz packages, and stunts to win. Lanning is aggressive in his approach. Not only will he bring pressure from snap one if he feels it, but he is also going to show more looks, try to make the offense think more pre-snap. I think we will see more stemming pre-snap, more stunts, more LB blitzes, more LB's in the gap showing blitz and dropping. We will also see things Mr. FishDuck will get into soon with his coming articles. I expect Lanning is going to play lots more pre-snap cat and mouse, plus he is going to flat out get after teams and use our explosive LB's more effective this year. I think our defensive recruiting is going to blow up after the season starts and kids see what Lanning is doing and how players are on attack mode. Kids will want to come play in the system.
  19. OMG... these guys are Dogs! DJ hit a top sprint speed nipping at Gonzo and they all are strong!
  20. Lanning quote.. "I think what you notice as you get into day five and day six, you start to recognize who has their head buried in their playbook, who's spending the extra time. It's hard to play fast if you don't know what you are doing." Lanny and Dilly are both football "wonks" and as such can tell the guys who haven't grasped the scheme really quick.
  21. T-Mac is the big fish down there with Jacob Cowing the transfer. He has about three of his high school teammates with hem, but they aren't going to win many football games.
  22. Wow thanks! DJ at #4, I've said he is going to blow up and go first round this year. Seems like DJ is already getting respect.
  23. You nailed it on both. Losing Flowe last year was a huge blow., and this "sneaky good" Ducks DL will be big all year. Now we need to get into the change of scheme between DRut to Lanning's and what that means.
  24. I agree, the battle in the trenches to stop the Georgia run game is key.
  25. I'm glad you liked the article, lots of us are fired up about the Oregon defense. I've been writing about the offense but there is a lot to unpack with the defense.
