Penei was a good 30lbs bigger, I think he was 330 as a Frosh. Plus, Penei had a mean streak as a true frosh, I don't know if Conerly Jr is the same. Penei was a super high four star and JC Jr is 5-star on Rivals and 247. JC Jr is a 1st round dude for sure at left tackle, with how athletic he is and the feet he has. He could be better than Penei in the long run, but he is a legit dude right now. What I can say is none of the Ducks OL has the feet and balance JC Jr does right now, he is a freak in that regard. I bet if KT was still a Duck he'd be shaking his head thinking a person shouldn't be so big and yet have great feet. One of the 247 scouts said he has "magical feet".

I like that he did say it. It shows the Staff is open to young guys developing and passing up the Vets. That's good for recruiting and good for the young guys to keep pushing to get better. It also makes me think they have a bar Bo will have to meet if he is QB1 or we could see one of the young QBs But mostly I'm just grinning knowing we got an elite young OL guy coming on. Wouldn't it be something if he started right out of the gate like Sewell did?
-
Wow, the kid must be pushing the Vets on the OL in camp here. Q: How had Conerly’s camp been and how game-ready is he at this point? Lanning: “I think Josh is gonna be a really good player for the Ducks. I mean, I think he’s gonna be a phenomenal player for us. He’s shown that he has a worker’s mentality, has a growth mindset. When his time comes, I think he’ll be prepared for it you know, and that could be relatively soon we’ll see.”

Well let's hope your right about Bo and he balls out. He doesn't have to be elite, just good and we could run the table after UGA.

This is the Ducks recruiting cycle peak with its talent on defense, much like Georgia was last year. Flowe, Sewell, Funa, Johnson all Top 80 guys will be done, along with Popo and Dorlus off the D Line and safety Bennett Williams. Thats 7 starters we will lose off the defense and while we have blue-chips to replace them... we don't have two Top 80 edge guys and a pair of five-star LB's to replace them with. We won't reload like UGA just did with elite dudes, we will have a drop off next year. Plus, we will lose 4 of the 5 offensive linemen, but we will roll out blue-chips to replace them. Connerly Jr., David Luli, Bram Walden, JPJ, Jarmillo and maybe Jones comes back. We will be ok next year on the OL, but we need to land some dudes in these next two classes! So, getting to your point, this is the year we need elite QB play when we are at the cycle peak of talent on our roster.

Kenny Dillingham and the Explosive Down-G Concept
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I agree with you and could have written my post better. What I like is how the RB gets his shoulders turned away from the play side for an instant as he comes to the mesh point. Linebackers can see them shoulders turned and will react. -
Kenny Dillingham and the Explosive Down-G Concept
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like the RB jab step like on a counter. UGA has those new inside linebackers, this play will hold them for an instant with the jab step. Then our center and guard get out on the LB's. -
I don't know if Duck fans get Coach Whitt has been at Utah almost 30 years. He's Utah's - Brooks or Bellotti on steroids. He spent around a decade as the DC at Utah. KW has had some great coaches on his staff that have put in some years with him. Ludwig the OC is on his second run as OC for KW. In 2005 when they hired him KW as head coach, he promoted Gary Anderson as Asst HC and his DC. After Anderson left, he had Kilani Sitake as his DC until he left to join Anderson withe the Bark Eaters for the 2015 season. Current DC Morgan Scalley who played for KW at Utah has been on the staff for 15 years and been the DC for around 8 years. KW has had 3 good DC's that have all come out of his system to be the DC. Scalley is the best DC in the Pac-12 for years if you ask me. His OL and DL guys have been there longer than Scalley has been the DC, Ludwing is close to a decade in his two stops. Coach Whitt hasn't had some of the insane long term staff retention like the Ducks did. But he has had his share, and they have been much in line of the old Ducks staff that do less with more. The twist is the Ducks were known as an offensive team and Utah has been all about the hardnose defense. Utah football - like the Ducks, did have become a known football hotbed. They are now getting better recruits the add to the 3-star kids they have always developed. They are a Top 10 team in the pre-season polls and favored to win the pac-12. What happens to Utah football when KW hangs it up? Scalley the DC had an incident that probably taints him from getting the HC job. Scalley would be the best long-term HC hire and would carry the Utah culture on. Add in possible B1G expansion move for Utah, the NIL new world. Does Utah go outside the family like the Ducks did with the Taggart hire? KW and Utah football has been something similar to that special Duck era of the past, but they too may see that type of era end. The bigger the Ducks became on the national stage the more the old system passed away - Utah is facing the same thing at some point.

Should Fans Feel Compelled to Contribute to NIL?

The bigger question is if there should be a NIL that pays super fans, like us? -

Nice article Drex. I think the issues wasn't so much what Ty or Butters could be given playing time to Mario and his staff. I think it was for the system they ran: - a QB with experience that they felt would make the least mistakes trumped all. Right now, mattered-not ceiling in a QB. It wasn't a scheme that a QB was going to be a star in. We didn't really attack and stretch the field with deep balls. We didn't really spread the field out all the time. Often, we had a tight bunch formation that we could RPO out of, and when we did pass it was a 3-yard cross, a five-yard patten with a 10-yard out. When we did run a play with a deeper route it was an anomaly. Mario's scheme saw us run into 8 men in the box, and it let defenses play down-hill as they knew we weren't going over the top. So, if your scheme is so bad any QB isn't going to light it up, then you might as well play the Vet QB. Mario didn't want a star QB for his system- he wanted a game manager to run his offense. Mario didn't need big-time throws made. I'm just glad we don't have to watch Ty or Butters play in that scheme.

Its total team talent, player development and scheme to me. UGA is a cut above all but Bama in the SEC and the Ducks would be 5th or 6th in the SEC. Georgia has its scheme still in place- they kept the Co-DC Schuman and moved Will Muschamp from analyst to Co-Dc- the scheme hasn't changed Yes, they replace a lot of dudes, they won't be as good as last year, but the new dudes will be good and will get better every week they play. Oregon has talent but we have switched scheme, the schemes are better, but the team will improve on execution of the scheme as the year goes on. The Ducks may be better on defense day one, but is it enough to handle the SEC top dawgs? The talent matchups I worry about is the UGA OL- they are all dudes and have faced elite five-star SEC DL dudes. The Ducks have a really good and deep DL but none are elite SEC DL dudes. Those five-star DL guys are rare, and they seem to all go SEC as recruits. Lanning said the OL was running the ball well last night in the scrimmage, that worries me. The Ducks have a veteran DL and are considered a top group, but UGA's OL dudes are cut above in talent, and the scheme has been steady. I'm also worried about the UGA DL- it will be the best DL talent the Ducks will see all year. It's quite a bit to expect the Ducks Pac-12 level elite DL to stone the UGA OL in the run game, and the same goes for the Ducks OL against the UGA DL in the pass rush. The Ducks have an uphill fight in the trenches. Lanning will make the DL more competitive than it would have been, but we are facing loaded up OL. Football is an unpredictable game, and anything can happen. We are going to have to watch and see.
-
I think a key thing what Lanning harps on turnovers is that UGA averaged around 10 points a game off turnovers? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was 10 points. Lanning knows full well we have no chance against UGA if we have a bunch of turnovers, matter of fact the Ducks need to win the turnover game to have a shot.
-
I get its camp and guys are competing and want to make things happen, but Lanning has been on QB ball security from day 1 here. Dilly just was talking about this pre-scrimmage. “I think most of the decisions that ended up being bad decisions today were somebody trying to make something out of nothing, and trying to create a play when they didn’t need to,” Dan Lanning said on Saturday. “A bad play turned into a worse play, you know, and that’s something we have to do a better job of.”

Ducks vs Bulldawgs...What's the Score?
DazeNconfused replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
There we 50 and 60 some odd points scored between Bama and UGA in the SEC Champ game and Natty. While I think this could be a lower scoring type defensive game, it could be high scoring. With good defensive units in first game of the season, 3 or 4 bad turnovers could 17 to 24short field drive points. I'm going UGA 31 - 21 Ducks -
I have no problem with him admitting he needs to get better. No coach is perfect, not even Saban. Lanning as a 36yo first time head coach is going to have some things he will have to learn to be better at, just like he is teaching his players they have to get better. It's how much they all care about getting better that will drive them. If your coach is working the daily team process with you - it has to be a bit different and bonding. Coach isn't asking anything more of you than he does of himself.

Lanning has said his QB has to take care of the ball and we have 6 picks in the two scrimmages. Whoever is QB1 better take care of the ball, or we will end up with run heavy Mario ball in a hurry if the defense lives up to expectations. here is Q and A from article.. Q: WERE THE TURNOVERS MORE INTERCEPTIONS OR FUMBLES? DL: "We had four picks today; we had several balls on the ground. You know, in general, just fall in jeopardy situations that we got to do a better job of." Q: Was that the result of the defense playing well or just offensive mistakes? DL: "It's a combination of both not catching it clean turns into a tipped ball turns into an interception. Some poor decision-making, some taking advantage of an opportune moment and doing a good job attacking the ball. So it's a combination we got to do a better job taking care of it." Everything Dan Lanning said after Oregon's second fall camp scrimmage 247SPORTS.COM Oregon had its second fall camp scrimmage on Saturday. Head coach Dan Lanning met with the media afterward and fielded questions. Here's a complete transcript from

Lanning’s Nasty Oregon Overload Blitz!
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for the article, Charles! You got us keyed into the pre-snap linebacker movement on the delayed blitz with the twist and now the pre-snap linebacker movement in the overload. I like how Adrain Jackson in the first play of your video drop back off the line of scrimmage and to the right to overload but keeps depth until the snap. It looks like he has gone from showing blitz up on the line to shifting back to drop into coverage. Since I watch the LBs I will be all over this in the Georgia game and I'm sure I'll see this and read blitz before the snap based on what I've picked up in your last two articles. -
Texas Names Quinn Ewers Starting QB
DazeNconfused replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Nix has never put-up stats as good as true Frosh QBs Trevor Lawrence, Jake Fromm or Jalen Hurts did in year one. Bo has three years worse than them by miles still. He was 100 miles off CJ and Bryce last year with his low 7 yards per pass and 130 passer rating. Both Bryce and CJ had more TD's last year than Bo has in three years. Bryce was just at 9 per pass with a 167.5 pass rating- 47TD's CJ was over 10 per pass with a 186 pass rating and 44 TD's You know who Bo was better than last year? Jeff Lockie in 2015 with his 119 pass rating. We need to keep it in perspective.. if Nix gets on CJ or Bryce's level it will be some Joe Burrow stuff. -
Watch For Lanning’s Delayed Inside Linebacker Blitz!
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That's great video you just posted Charles and makes me think even less of D-Ruts blitz scheme last year. Lanning has the dudes, and he is going to turn them lose this year. Our defense is going to be much more exciting! They players are going to have fun.
