  1. Respectfully I say... Zero chance, where can I bet against Bo on this? Bryce Young had a tad under 5000 yards and 50 TD's last year, Burrow was at around 5500 yards and 60 TD's. Bo would need to throw for nearly twice as many yards as he ever has in a season and nearly three times as many TD's as he has in a season to get on level with what Stroud, Young did last year. Let's assume to put Caleb Willimas in that production range for this season that Stroud and Young had last year. Who is the sportswriter talking head throwing DJ's name into the mix? DJ threw 9 TD's last year! He was terrible for a 5-star recruit and looks a bust to me. DJ might not be the opening day QB1 after fighting 2022 class #1 QB recruit Cade Klubnik. Odds are if DJ does get the job, he will lose it mid-year to Klubnik, much like Kelly Bryant did to Sunshine mid-year and took the Tiger to a Natty win.
  2. K-Whitt and Scalley the DC at Utah, hands down! They have been to two Pac-12 title games recently and that means more to me than the percentage of 3 stars drafted. K-Whitt and Scalley have taken teams with more 3-stars and beaten UW, USC, and Ducks over and over.
  3. Jarmillo and JPJ give us game snap repped depth players to go with Jones, Bass, Forsythe, Walk, Sala who we assume will be the starters. We also have high quality underclassmen depth with 2nd year Bram Walden a Top 100 kid. Incoming we have Connerly Jr the 5 star and Luli a top 200 kid.
  4. Bo really hasn't thrown a ton of picks, it's more that some of his picks have been really bad decisions. The thing you have to add into the equation with Bo is the missed throws on occasion, taking bad sacks extending the play, the risk of fumbles when he scrambles to extend plays. In short Bo needs to take another step mentally to reduce the bad picks, to sometimes decide to throw the ball away instead of scrambling around trying to extend every play and risking a fumble or big sack. Bo needs to learn that it's OK to give up on a play and not take a negative play. I think Stenson Bennett and OC Todd Monken at Georgia are a BAR that Lanning has set in his mind for Dilly and Bo. Monken got a passing RTG of 176 out of Stenson last year and that's 35 points higher than AB had last year. That's down to Monken getting the most out of his QB and calling plays that tailor to his QB and Skill Players being successful. Monken ran a pro style that pounded the ball 55% of the time, takes what the Defense gives. He ran stuff the QB could adjust the blocking at the line of scrimmage in the run/pass plays, along with RPO's that let the QB take some play action shot plays. Monken never asked Stenson to be Bryce Young for 60 minutes, Monken asked him to be Stenson in the best sets, play calls that set Stenson up for success. Much of that success was taking what the defense gave them. Monken also has 3 stud TE's and used them well, they almost always seem to have been in 11 personal and ran 12 also, heck I'm sure he ran a few 13 sets. I think if Dilly/Bo can produce something like Monken/Stenson did last year Lanning is going to feel really good about his chances this year. Scoring points while taking care of the football and not putting his Defense behind the eight ball with short fields.
  5. 100% right call on that balk! Not stopping the hands keeps runners for getting a good jump and makes the batter feel quick pitched while he is waiting for the pitcher to make a definite pause.
  6. That's right, I keep forgetting FishDuck has created over 600 analysis articles in the last decade, and you've banged out over 100 yourself. Duh? lol I can really appreciate that's quite a bit of work, charting plays, breaking them down and doing write ups! Keep up the good work, I liked your article. Coach Dillingham’s Offensive Attack Philosophy Confirmed with Oregon…Again
  7. Good link.. someone educate me here so I don't to research.. we got the beer guy, shoe guy, machinery guy.. what's Kilkenny and Morse do? and don't tell me one of them makes international potato salad, I won't fall for that!! I'm not really strong on boosters and Alum stuff, not my thing..
  8. I just went back and looked at the OSU game box score, your right DJ caught it for the key 1st down. All I could remember it was a key play in the game. I think it's awesome you know the game Moorehead broke this play out, that's impressive do you chart plays during the game? Total Ducks football Nerd, I love it! haha I hope Dilly keeps it in the playbook
  9. All of Mario's poor WR recruits who got here on promises of big-time passing game and then got told "no block, no rock".. Haha Our WR's were solid blockers. Go back and watch the 2nd half of the UW game last year in that heavy rain. We stopped passing the ball and ran it down their throats and I think I only saw one missed block by the entire team in the 2nd half. Heck i think it was Jarmillo pancaked a defender inside the 10 and got a unnecessary roughness call, that was epic terrible. It was a great block.
  10. Didn't Moorehead run this play at The OSU to DJ for a TD? I thought DJ had a TD and last sack of the game. I don't recall seeing other teams run this play, I deff never seen the Ducks run it until Joe. It's been a great plat for us.
  11. You bring up a point to consider. Lanning has Popo, Dorlus All Pac D Line guys back with Taki who was top 5 D line rated by PFF. He has Funa on one edge, DJ on the other, both top 100 guys. He has Flowe and Noah at LB with Manning at CB all 5 stars, with Gonzales at the other CB. Mix in all the other 4 stars and he has a loaded defense. If the defense is lights out and the QB can't protect the football the leash is going to shorten up right quick. Lanning has preached QB's taking care of the ball since day one. We all want to see high powered offense, but we have a defensive coach. If the offense gives up 10-14 first half points off turnovers, the leash is going on. If turnovers become a problem, then our offense is going to look a lot like Monken's at Georgia. Run first setting up safer play action passing that didn't put Lanning's defense in a bind. I just got a gut feeling this offense comes down to how Bo can manage this offense to the point he throws the ball way to live another down, and that's what good QB's do so you don't have to put a leash on them.
  12. UG had the highest recruiting budget in college football, the last two years at least. They spent 1 million more than Bama and three times as much as the Ducks in 2021, and they spent I think 1 million more in 2021 than 2020. I'll find and post the links. I'd reckon Dan got Mullens to commit some of the truck load of money they weren't paying to Mario to go towards a HEFTY increase in our recruiting budget. Dan also and poached Malchow from the Aggies who had the best class this year as his chief of staff. I wouldn't be surprised we have at least doubled our recruiting budget, and I wouldn't be surprised if Dan got that commitment as part of his hire. I also reckon Mullens got a bit of an eye opening that Dan had a plan to recruit as well as Mario if not better. It was sort of a no brainer to hire Dan who was the hottest young defensive mind in college football, who had worked under Saban-Smart, had a plan to boost recruiting, and taking the best from those programs and bringing it here. As far as NIL goes, my understanding is that the Schools can have no role in setting up or getting NIL for players. Schools basically set a NIL compliance guideline and can advise players to make sure the deals they sign are in compliance and that's it. My understanding is if Mullen's worked with donors on setting up NIL he isn't in NCAA compliance. It seems to me the only thing NIL Mullens can talk with donors about is Compliance Guidelines. 13. The UW them song should be Glory Days
  14. Thanks for the article and video Charles, and the break down. The video is telling. The video of the first play of the game it looks like LaDuke and Bassa at LB. Stephens is the field boundry safety we have come to 8 yards off the ball pre snap. The field side safety is just over 11 yards off the ball and whoever it is isn't getting snaps on game day. I will also note Veron played like 17 yards off the ball when in a one deep safety last year and he was sorta good? When you watch the play Stephens comes up to 5 yards off the ball on the play fake, and LaDuke comes up past the play fake until he is two yards off the line. Stop the tape 4 seconds in and Bo has made his drop and planted his back foot, while LaDuke has just processed pass and has put a foot in the ground and just starts to drop into coverage. Not a good rep for LaDuke! Meanwhile watch Bassa at the mesh point in a great position with his feet and balance under him. Bassa reads and reacts much better than LaDuke to the play and he keeps his feet under him better than Stephens and starts his drop at the same time. Bassa really improved his reads late last year and is going to be huge at LB in pass coverage. Whoever the deep safety was there was a high low bracket on the field side away from him, and the deep guy should have got more depth on that high/low bracket. Back to Stephens, I'd think he would have deep third on his side? Or the deep safety had deep 2/3rds of the field, making it long way to go to give help over the top on the boundry corner? Regardless the deep safety was stuck on an island with Seven coming and waiting to react if he is going straight up the field or make a cut across. Let's go with your point of confusion/space and some poor defensive execution. Stop the tape at the 5 second mark and 3 WR's are in the route tree and all are over 12 yards deep with 4 defenders under them and Stephans looking towards the flat. Crocker took the DB inside past Stephens and he let them both go? The second play we have 5 defenders on the goal line, Stephens is on the end opposite of Jamall Hill who you have the blue arrow on. Watch Stephens suck in on the play fake more than the LB's and look how the CB has Thornton with no inside leverage help from Stephens. The play appears to be designed for Bo to have 2 slants at the top of the screen, but if Thornton runs a slant with no leverage from Stephens that's an even easier TD with his big body. Additionally, you have to wonder if we are intending to leave the CB there one on one with Thornton having to cover the fade with no inside help? That's asking a lot of a CB, seems like you ask him to sit fade and react to slant knowing he has some inside help. Stephens didn't look good on either rep, lots of questions and confusion.
  15. I 100% agree he has to be better than AB. Less missed throws are a given. But the huge improving we need from Nix over AB is not missing the reads or the throw that would have been TD's. We saw AB miss the reads for open throws way too many times, and then when he made the read make a bad throw. Is it fair of me to say AB missed 8-10 TD's on missed reads or bad throws?
  16. The kid was already a 1st rounder. So, this to me is about NIL money, playing in Riley's system and having fun. The bonus is he has a shot at going super high in the 1st round now with all the eyes on him. Going 20th or 10th is probably 6 -8 million bucks on your rookie deal. I'd rather go 10th and have that extra money to cover some agent fee and taxes
  17. There is much hype among the Duck fanbase about the offensive potential, yes, the talent level at the Skill spots is deep as it's ever been. But I've said this over and over, the offensive sucess in explosion plays will be QB driven. Sure, coach Dilly can scheme getting our speedy skill guys in space, but the QB has to make the pre snap reads, get through the progressions, make the throws on time, and put the ball into the correct window to take care of the football. The WR's need to read pre snap the route they will run for the play called and watch the coverage they are running into as the play develops. Do you expect 1 on1 cover and run the route out or zone cover and you're going to find the hole to sit into? That's 5 levels of execution the QB/WR's has to make consistently to have an explosive passing game. If the QB play fails at any of those levels on a continuing basis, then you end up with screen pass - dink and dunk passing game. QB/WR coaching is huge if we want to air the ball out this year in a more successful way than last year. I get that Dillys Shot passing plays even if not completed will draw more Cover 2 defense to get the safeties out to the sidelines to defend the deep ball to our fast WR's. That should open up the passing game in the middle of the field and the run game into Cover 2 sets. The QB still has to execute all 4 levels to get what the Defense gives up in the middle of the field. It's not a given Bo Nix is going to execute consistently at an Elite level. Elite QB play is rare and 5-star QB's can be a bust. Look at DJ Uiagallie at Clemson a 99 grade 5-star. He hasn't executed at what I would call and Elite level and as such Clemson's offense is a QB limited system. My expectation for this offense is that we will play with more Tempo with a 55-60% run to 45-40% pass ratio. I don't expect we are going to be flinging the ball all over the field like the Spring game. With the increased Tempo we will see the Shot plays, sideline to sideline plays to make the Defense defend the whole field. I think Dilly is going to pound the ball into the 2 deep safety Cover 2 look, and he will take his deep shot when they put a safety in the in the Box and go Cover Zero. That is something we didn't do last year well. We ran into an 8 Man Box and when we did RPO a pass into an 8 Man Box it was still short route stuff. We can have an effective offense and get more explosion plays with Dilly's system next year. But I' pessimistic we are going have the type of QB play that will allow us to impose our passing game at will like CJ Stroud at The OSU and Bryce Young at Bama. I don't see Bo Nix slinging the ball 45 times a game for 400 plus yards every weekend. Bo Nix isn't a 1st round QB from what I have seen from him, and I think we will still be QB limited next year.
  18. Helf was a great OC, heck I'd have him back as an OC here. But Helf is super soft in comparison to K Whitt, and you can't have a soft HC.
  19. We can disagree, but we can still discuss it also, right? Who are the highly rated QB's that you're referring to that bombed here while Helf was here as OC-HC? Bennet the barely top 250 kid? He would have had a great career here if it wasn't for MM. Rodrigues and Mahalak were two barely top 250ish kids who left the program because of MM. Jonsen was the only highly rated one in my book as a high 4 star who came in the year before, high 3-star Wilson and Herbs. Herbs jumped them both in fall camp as true frosh. I don't see the bombed when those kids had to compete against two QB's who were 1st rounders, and I only consider Jonsen highly rated, actually turns out he was overrated. Tua was a 5-star kid that you have to offer, you push/support him to get his grades up. You gotta Nut Up and make that offer and not be afraid to have egg on your face if the kid ends up at a JUCO. Worried about having egg on your face is just the kind of soft guy Helf was, this is football and you gotta have some Alpha in you.
  20. DJ was a top 100 recruit in his class, so he has always been an elite talent. He is a 5th or 6th year senior, so he is a grown man now. We had 5 edge guys go 1st round this draft. DJ certainly plays a spot that get lots of 1st round takes and there will be plenty of scouts watching Sewell, Flowe and him
  21. I just read this article and I'm going to predict that DJ goes 1st round and before Noah after this season plays out.
  22. Yes. it would be. The kid is crystal balled to Bama. Bama, Geogia, The OSU and now Aggies pipeline these types of kids year after year
  23. I'm drooling that Lanning can land a couple top LB's to come take their spots by the time signing day comes around. Lets Flip Anthony Hill the Texas LB from the Aggies and put him in the #1 jersey, I dream big
  24. Chip got us on the national map with that Offense, MM won the Heisman, Herbs, Sewell, KT all just went top 10 in first round. We also got kids like Graham, Holland, Lennior along with the 2019 OL Hansen/Thockmorton guys into the NFL.. Plus there are lots of Ducks in the NFL, hollins, deforest, Mondo, Amstead, Amadi, Alonso Kids see we got 5 star and elite top 100 players here in Noah, Flowe, Manning, Funa, DJ, Ty, Thorton, Franklin, Bram Walden, Connerly. Then we have plenty of top 247 guys, Cardwell, Dollars, Jordan James, Seven, Brevard, Hutson, Degado, Crocker, Jones, Jarmillo, Fergi-Motavo TE's, Luli, JPJ, Avantre Dickerson, Addison, Stephans, Adrain Jackson Keith Brown, Florence, Tucker, Devon Jackson, kasper. Sala and TJ Bass were top self JUCO guys. 2023 Kids are also seeing we have the Hottest Young Coach, young staff. Sean McVey proved the young football minds are on point and worth the risk to hire. The 2023 class can see the foundation laid, look at the group of kids they can come in with as a class .......... They see something that can be elite.. We can recruit kids like Jayden Wayne to be the next KT wearing #5 Connerly to be the next P. Sewell Some top LB to be the next Noah at LB wearing #1 Tua was dying to be a Duck and follow MM but Helf let that slip through his fingers too. I think Lanning is going to use every pillar of Duck football to benefit with recruits. Be that the facilities, team depth, staff, recent 1st run of 1st round picks to the fact the Ducks have put plenty if guys into the NFL.
  25. They play more games than they used to. Akili, O'Neil and Musgrave put those numbers up in a shorter season back when teams also played slower. Akili played 3 less games than MM but sits second on this list. Teams play faster now getting more snaps per game along with more games. I think you have to factor in AB played 2 more games than Joey and 1 more than DT, plus the increase in snaps/possessions. DT put his numbers up when Saban and Les Miles were playing FG matches in the SEC with 9-6 game scores. I think a truer QB performance matrix to compare all these QB's would be completion percentage, yards per completion, pass attempts per TD pass, ect.. I threw out the plus 3400-yard figure for Bo with the 30 plus TD's as a way for saying that in todays game that is good QB production, but not elite. It's a modest yardage increase from AB last year but over an 11 TD increase that would represent not missing the open reads - missing the open guy like AB did last year for TD's. Bryce Young had like 47 TD and I think 4900 yards last year? Didn't Burrow go well over 50 TD's and 5000 yards? I think with how today's game has changed the next Great Duck QB will put up a couple seasons as good or not better than MM's best year in 2014.
